The synthesis and crystal structure of [Co(NCS)2(hmt)2(H2- O)2]穂Co(NCS)2(H2O)4]?H2O (hmt = hexamethylenetetramine) are reported. The crystal belongs to triclinic, space group P with unit cell parameters: a = 7.917(1), b = 9.023(1), c = 12.877(1) ? ?= 94.21(1), = 96.68(1), ?= 115.42(1)? C16H40Co2N12O8S4, Mr = 774.7, V = 817.33 3, Z = 1, Dc = 1.574 g/cm3, F(000) = 402 and (MoK? = 1.328mm-1. The final values of R and wR are 0.0251 and 0.0598, respectively, for 2545 observed reflections with I > 2(I). Each Co atom is in an octahedral coordination environment, and the independent uncharged components [Co(NCS)2(hmt)2(H2O)2], [Co(NCS)2(H2O)4] and H2O are linked together by three kinds of hydrogen bonds (O(2)H贩種(3) and O(3)H贩種(2), O(1)H贩稯(4) and O(3)H贩稯(4), O(2)H贩稴(2) and O(4)H贩稴(1)) to form a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture.

The synthesis and characterization of aluminum-pillared rectorite were studied. The synthesis was conducted with both conventional heating and microwave irradiation. Microwave irradiation was found to enhance the intercalation and ion-exchange during synthesis, and to be able to produce the rectorite with a larger d_(001) and a better uniformity. The specific surface area is 180 m^2/g and basal spacing is 3.2 nm. The texture change and thermal and hydrothermal stability of cross-linked rectorite were examined using XRD, FTIR, nitrogen-adsorption and TGA. The experimental results show that the aluminum-pillared rectorite, after calcined at 800 ℃ for 3 hours, can keep the basal aluminum-silicate texture and would not disperse in water at room or an elevated temperature. The aluminum-pillared rectorite shows a high specific surface area, good thermal and hydrothermal stability, and is promising in applications as catalyst carriers and adsorbents for waste treatment.

An efficient method for preparation of substituted 1,2-phenylenedimethanols and aliphatic 1,4-diols that are valuable intermediates in organic synthesis, has been developed by the base-promoted reduction of isobenzofuran-1(3H)-ones and y-lactones with silane under mild conditions. Compared with traditional procedures using stoichiometric amounts of metal hydrides and alkyl reductants, the present method avoids the use of sensitive reagents and is operationally simple and a broad variety of functional groups are tolerated.

The homocysteine （Hcy）-induced tissue factor （TF） expression in human vascular smooth muscle cells （VSMCs） and the effect of Hcy on the activity of nuclear factor-kappaB （NF-кB） and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase （iNOS） were investigated. Human umbilical artery VSMCs were cultured by tissue explanting method, identified by α-actin immunohistochemistry, and incubated with different concentrations of Hcy/PTDC （NF-кB inhibitor）. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR was performed to detect the expression of TF mRNA in VSMCs. Flow cytometry was used to assay the expression of TF protein on the surface of VSMCs and the expression of iNOS in VSMCs. Western blot was carried out to detect the expression of NF-кB protein in nuclei. The results showed that Hcy could induce VSMCs expressing TF mRNA significantly after the VSMCs were incubated with Hcy at concentrations of 10, 100, 500 μmol/L respectively. There was low expression level of TF protein on the surface of the resting VSMCs and Hcy could also induce VSMCs expressing TF pro- tein on the cell surface in different concentrations. Additionally, Hcy could rapidly induce the activation of NF-кB and this effect could be significantly inhibited by PDTC. Hcy alone could not induce the expression of iNOS in VSMCs. It was concluded that Hcy could significantly induce the expression of TF in VSMCs and enhance the activation of NF-ΚB, subsequently mediate TF gene expression and protein synthesis. NF-кB-mediated expression of TF in VSMCs might be the important mechanism of atherosclerosis and thrombosis induced by Hcy.

There are growing research interests in developing high-performance energy storage systems to meet the demands for large-scale and sustainable energy storage. The lithium-sulfur （Li-S） batteries have drawn numerous attentions due to their exceptionally high energy density compared with other batteries. However, achieving the high capacities with long-term cycle stability and retaining an essentially high sulfur loading remains a tremendous chal- lenge for the designs of Li-S batteries. Graphene is regarded as a very suitable and promising addition to the com- positions for Li-S batteries due to its unique two dimensional （2D） structure, high conductivity and superior me- chanical flexibility. Besides, the functional groups of graphene surface can be tuned flexibly to immobilize the S/Li2Sx on the graphene surface during the cycling process. In this review, the development of graphene-sulfur composites and their applications in Li-S batteries are discussed. The attempts are also devoted to the synthesis approaches of various graphene-based sulfur composites, the graphene-sulfur interaction and the impacts on the elec- trochemical performances as well as the major issues of Li-S batteries.

To answer“what is wisdom?”,contemporary epistemologists have proposed various theories,one of which is Knowledge as Knowing How to Live Well(KLW).Stephen Grimm(2015)gives a recent version of KLW including three necessary conditions of wisdom.I criticize Grimm’s KLW in three ***,Grimm merely considers practical justifies beliefs and ignores theoretical justified ***,Grimm’s claim“wisdom requires knowledge”is too strong to ***,knowing“a strategy for obtaining Goods”doesn’t entail following that strategy to obtain ***,I modify Grimm’s theory from three aspects:(Ⅰ)adding“a broad range of theoretical justified beliefs”in the definition of wisdom;(Ⅱ)replacing“knowledge”with“justified beliefs”;(Ⅲ)adding“a sincere tendency to act”in the definition of *** modified Grimm’s KLW provides more plausible necessary conditions of ***,conjunction of these necessary conditions can be regards as sufficient in a sense that the modified Grimm’s KLW provides a synthesis of other theories of wisdom.

Objective To summarize current understanding of the roles of anti-inflammatory and proinflammatory mechanisms in the development of atherosclerosis and acute coronary syndrome and to postulate the novel concept of inflammation stress as the most important factor triggering acute coronary syndrome. Moreover,markers of inflammation stress and ways to block involved pathways are elucidated. Data sources A literature search (MEDLINE 1997 to 2002) was performed using the key words “inflammation and cardiovascular disease”. Relevant book chapters were also reviewed. Study selection Well-controlled,prospective landmark studies and review articles on inflammation and acute coronary syndrome were selected. Data extraction Data and conclusions from the selected articles providing solid evidence to elucidate the mechanisms of inflammation and acute coronary syndrome were extracted and interpreted in the light of our own clinical and basic research. Data synthesis Inflammation is closely linked to atherosclerosis and acute coronary syndrome. Chronic and long-lasting inflammation stress,present both systemically or in the vascular walls,can trigger acute coronary syndrome. Conclusions Inflammation stress plays an important role in the process of acute coronary syndrome. Drugs which can modulate the balance of pro- and anti-inflammatory processes and attenuate inflammation stress,such as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors/angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blockers,statins,and cytokine antagonists may play active roles in the prevention and treatment of acute coronary syndrome when used in addition to conventional therapies (glycoprotein Ⅱb/Ⅲa receptor antagonists,mechanical intervention strategies, etc).

*** In 1977, Chandrasekhar et al. synthesized a new type of disc-like liquid crystals completely different from rod-like liquid crystal molecules in structure. Then other types of disc-like liquid crystals were synthesized by Destrade et al. The disc-like molecules are composed of a disc or elliptic rigid center surrounded by long and soft aliphatic chains (Fig. 1). A research into the structures and properties of these liquid crystals is significant in theory and practice.
