The diurnal variation in the sun's altitude alters the red-to-blue light spectrum ratio under identical water *** study explores how juvenile steelhead trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)(initial weight:34.67 g±2.69 g)responds to these fluctuating light conditions,focusing on growth,daily activity levels,and energy *** 16 weeks,the experiment was conducted to examine six lighting scenarios:12 h white light followed by 12 h darkness(12W);12 h blue light followed by 12 h darkness(12B);12 h red light followed by 12 h darkness(12R);1.5 h blue light,9 h red light,and again 1.5 h blue light followed by 12 h darkness(3B9R);3 h blue light,6h red light,and again 3 h blue light followed by 12 h darkness(6B6R);and 12 h combined blue and red lights followed by 12 h darkness(T12BR).The findings reveal that the 3B9R lighting condition notably enhanced specific growth rate(SGR),feed conversion efficiency(FCE),and growth energy allocation,while diminishing daily activity levels in steelhead ***,under the 6B6R condition,there was a significant reduction in SGR and FCE,indicating that growth was *** the 12R condition,despite the high activity and respiratory energy loss,the trout exhibited improved SGR and FCE with reduced fecal energy *** study suggests that 3B9R and 12R lighting conditions might be beneficial in commercial steelhead trout farming,potentially lowering costs and boosting *** results offer valuable insights for the application of supplementary lighting technology in salmon aquaculture.

As a seaweed supplement， the powdered， entire herb of Asparagopsis taxiformis can effectively promote immune response in animals. However， the active factors responsible for this effect are currently unknown. A novel polysaccharide， ATP-1， was isolated and purified from the red alga A. taxiformis， and its structural and immunomodulatory properties were determined. ATP-1 is a neutral polysaccharide with a molecular weight of 307.978 kDa and is primarily composed of galactose (94.07%)， glucose (1.27%)， and xylose (4.66%). Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy revealed that ATP-1 had an amorphous structure and was composed of molecular chain entanglement and intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. The microstructure of ATP-1 exhibited asymmetric sheet–like cracks and pores. Results from immunomodulatory activity showed that ATP-1 promoted inducible nitric oxide (NO) synthase and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 protein expression in RAW264.7 macrophages， improved macrophage phagocytic ability， and stimulated cytokine production (NO， tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α， and interleukin [IL]-6). Quantitative proteome analysis identified 178 differentially expressed proteins (70 upregulated and 108 downregulated) that were involved in various molecular pathways， among which， TNF was one of the 20 most common and significant signaling pathways in inflammation and immunoregulation. Western blotting indicated that ATP-1 significantly upregulated the expression of IKKα， IKKβ， COX-2， and TNF-α proteins in the TNF pathway. In contrast， ATP-1 downregulated the expression of IκBα， Fas， and AIPI. Results from molecular docking suggested that hydrogen bonding predominantly contributed to the affinity between TNF-α and galactose， glucose， and xylose. These findings indicated that ATP-1 may play an immunomodulatory role by activating the TNF signaling pathway. Nutritive and Microbiological Quality of Fish Feed Formulated from Local Flours Enriched with Larvaes of Hermetia illucens

In aquaculture, feed represents the main component of production costs, and the development of this sector depends on the development of an economical feed formulation that meets the qualitative and quantitative requirements of fish. The aim of this study was to determine the nutritive and microbiological quality of fish feed formulated from local flours enriched with Hermetia illucens larvae. The raw materials used for formulation were fishmeal, corn meal, low-grade rice, soybean meal and Hermetia illucens larvae meal. Different iso-protein feed compositions were prepared with 0%, 10%, 25%, 35%, 50%, 65%, 75% and 100% incorporation of Hermetia illucens larvae meal as a substitute for fish meal. Biochemical and microbiological analyses of these flours were determined using standard methods. The results showed that incorporation of larvae meal had an influence on the biochemical characteristics ash (8.15 to 20.27%), lipid (11.55 to 24.94%), fiber (13.93 to 20.41%) and dry matter (89.65 to 91.19%) of various formulated feed. Loads of fecal Streptococci, Staphylococci, Aeromonas, yeasts and molds ranged from 2.4 to 4.9 log 10 CFU/g;3.6 to 3.9 log 10 CFU/g;2.2 to 2.7 log 10 CFU/g;2.1 to 2.3 log 10 CFU/g, respectively. The level of contamination of these flours was below the microbiological criteria applicable to animal feed. Feed formulated with 0% and 10% Hermetia illucens larvae showed the best nutritive and microbiological characteristics. These results suggest that flours enriched with Hermetia illucens larvae could be used in fish feed.

Biochar Effect on Cadmium Accumulation and Phytoremediation Factors by Lavender (<i>Lavandula stoechas</i>L.)

The contaminated soil has become a global problem for agricultural and environmental scientists. The soil as a natural resource is polluted by cadmium as a heavy metals from the different sources such as phosphorus fertilizers. The aim of this study was to investigate the biochar effect on absorption factor (AF) and translocation factor (TF) as the phytoremediation factors at different cadmium concentrations by lavender plant. The experiment was conducted in 3 × 4 factorial design including biochar treatment at the volumetric percentage ratio of 0%, 20% and 40% v/v and cadmium treatment at 0, 50, 100 and 150 mg Cd⋅kg−1 soil under greenhouse condition. The data analysis indicated that the biochar and cadmium treatments significantly (p ≤0.05) affected the plant dry biomass. The biochar addition caused to decrease the cadmium content of the root tissue. Biochar decreased cadmium uptake by lavender plant and also cadmium was accumulated by the root tissue and was prevented to translocate cadmium into the shoot tissue. Increasing cadmium concentration in soil caused an increase in cadmium adsorption factor however there was a significant decrease for translocation factor. It can be concluded to consider the possibility of planting the lavender with biochar application to amend the cadmium contaminated soils.

Epigenetic mechanisms are integral to plant growth, development, and adaptation to environmental stimuli. Over the past two decades,our comprehension of these complex regulatory processes has expanded remarkably, producing a substantial body of knowledge on both locus-specific mechanisms and genome-wide regulatory patterns. Studies initially grounded in the model plant Arabidopsis have been broadened to encompass a diverse array of crop species, revealing the multifaceted roles of epigenetics in physiological and agronomic traits. With recent technological advancements, epigenetic regulations at the single-cell level and at the large-scale population level are emerging as new focuses. This review offers an in-depth synthesis of the diverse epigenetic regulations, detailing the catalytic machinery and regulatory functions. It delves into the intricate interplay among various epigenetic elements and their collective influence on the modulation of crop traits. Furthermore, it examines recent breakthroughs in technologies for epigenetic modifications and their integration into strategies for crop improvement. The review underscores the transformative potential of epigenetic strategies in bolstering crop performance, advocating for the development of efficient tools to fully exploit the agricultural benefits of epigenetic insights.

Plant-based meat analogues aggravated lipid accumulation by regulating lipid metabolism homeostasis in mice

To determine the effects of plant-based meat analogues on the metabolic health and the possible mechanisms,mice were fed with a real pork diet(AP),a real beef diet(AB),a plant-based pork analogue diet(PP)and plant-based beef analogue diet(PB)for 68 *** with real meat,the plant-based meat analogues increased food and energy intake,body weight,white fat and liver weight and caused adipocyte hypertrophy,hepatic lipid droplet accumulation,and inflammatory responses in *** revealed that plantbased meat analogues altered the composition of serum metabolites,which regulated lipid metabolism *** PB diet upregulated gene expression related to lipid synthesis,lipolysis and adipocyte differentiation while the PP diet upregulated expression of lipolysis-related genes but downregulated expression of adipocyte differentiation-related genes in white adipose ***,both PP and PB diets upregulated lipid influx-and synthesis-related genes but downregulated lipid oxidation-related genes in *** specific metabolite biomarkers may affect fat accumulation mainly by direct lipid metabolism pathways or indirect amino acid metabolism,protein digestion and absorption,bile secretion,aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis,neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction and ABC transporters *** findings provide a new insight into understanding the differences in nutritional functions of meat and plant-based meat analogues.

Streptophage-mediated control of off-flavour taint producing streptomycetes isolated from barramundi ponds

Chymotryptic hydrolysis of β-lactoglobulin (β-lg) leads to the release of a wide range of biofunctional ***,the proteolysis of native β-lg is limited due to its compact globular structure,thus ending with low yields of *** our previous study showed that eco-efficient High Voltage Electric Treatments (HVET),namely Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF) and Electric Arc (ARC),of β-lg substantially improved its enzymatic hydrolysis,no information regarding the nature of released peptides is available up to ***,the time-dependent release of peptides and the dynamics of this release were discussed in the current *** analysis of the final hydrolysates showed that chymotrypsinolysis of HVET samples released 19% more peptides with higher concentration than the native and preheated ***,1-min HVET were found to be more efficient than 10-min ones as they led to the release of bioactive peptides (even without chymotrypsin) with higher eco-efficiency scores.
