Volumetric lattice Boltzmann method for pore-scale mass diffusionadvection process in geopolymer porous structures

Porous materials present significant advantages for absorbing radioactive isotopes in nuclear waste *** improve absorption efficiency in nuclear waste treatment,a thorough understanding of the diffusion-advection process within porous structures is essential for material *** this study,we present advancements in the volumetric lattice Boltzmann method(VLBM)for modeling and simulating pore-scale diffusion-advection of radioactive isotopes within geopolymer porous *** structures are created using the phase field method(PFM)to precisely control pore *** our VLBM approach,we introduce a concentration field of an isotope seamlessly coupled with the velocity field and solve it by the time evolution of its particle population *** address the computational intensity inherent in the coupled lattice Boltzmann equations for velocity and concentration fields,we implement graphics processing unit(GPU)*** of the developed model involves examining the flow and diffusion fields in porous ***,good agreement is observed for both the velocity field from VLBM and multiphysics object-oriented simulation environment(MOOSE),and the concentration field from VLBM and the finite difference method(FDM).Furthermore,we investigate the effects of background flow,species diffusivity,and porosity on the diffusion-advection behavior by varying the background flow velocity,diffusion coefficient,and pore volume fraction,***,all three parameters exert an influence on the diffusion-advection *** background flow and diffusivity markedly accelerate the process due to increased advection intensity and enhanced diffusion capability,***,increasing the porosity has a less significant effect,causing a slight slowdown of the diffusion-advection process due to the expanded pore *** comprehensive parametric study provides valuable insights into the kinetics of isotope

PIECEWISE RATIONAL APPROXIMATIONS OF REAL ALGEBRAIC CURVES

We use a combination of both algebraic and numerical techniques to construct a C-1-continuous, piecewise (m, n) rational epsilon-approximation of a real algebraic plane curve of degree d. At singular points we use the classical Weierstrass Preparation Theorem and Newton power series factorizations, based on the technique of Hensel lifting. These, together with modified rational Pade approximations, are used to efficiently construct locally approximate, rational parametric representations for all real branches of an algebraic plane curve. Besides singular points we obtain an adaptive selection of simple points about which the curve approximations yield a small number of pieces yet achieve C-1 continuity between pieces. The simpler cases of C-1 and C-0 continuity are also handled in a similar manner. The computation of singularity, the approximation error bounds and details of the implementation of these algorithms are also provided.

White Layer of Hard Turned Surface by Sharp CBN Tool

White layers in hard turned surfaces were identified and measured as a function ot turning parameters based on the Taguchi method. It reveals that white layers generate on the machine surface in the absence of tool flank wear, and white layer depth varies with the different combinations of hard turning parameters. Turning speed has the most important impact on white layer depth, feed rate follows, and cutting depth at last. The white layer generation consequently suggests a strong couple relation to the heat generation and thermal process of hard turning operation. White layer disappears under an optimal combination of turning parameters by Taguchi method. It suggests that a superior surface integrity without white layer is feasible under some selected combinations of turning parameters by a sharp CBN cutting tool.

EFFECTS OF Cr ON THE LONGTIME EMBRITTLEMENT OF ALLOY 718

Current studies of high temperature materials have focused on the longtime behavior of materials in an effort to extend the life of service components. High temperature materials which appear to be stable in short exposure times can become unstable when exposed in a temperature range of up to 1200°F for times of 10,000 to 100,000 hours. Most alloys used in this temperature range are high Cr alloys and the superalloy most commonly used is alloy 718. Whether alloy 718 is used in aerospace or other industrial applications, the behavior of Cr on the formation of carbides,sigma phase, or other Cr rich intermetallic phase plays an important role in the eventual embrittlement of the *** 718 is limited to temperatures of 1200°F or below because of the occurrence of large amounts of transformations of the strengthening phase γ′to the delta plate phase with the resultant loss of impact and yield *** ongoing longtime behavior studies of alloy 718 at 1200°F,the impact property of alloy 718 drops from 38 ft-lbs to less than 8 ft-lbs in exposures of 50,000 hours. The initial drop in impact occurs without apparent changes in the strengthening phase; however, an αCr phase is starting to form and grows with time of *** results of a study of the role of αCr on the longtime embrittled engine run turbine disks and isothermally exposed alloy 718 will be presented. The factors which affect the αCr formation will be discussed.

EXTENSION OF SOAVE EQUATION OF STATE TO LIQUID DENSITY

On the basis of vapor pressures, volumes of saturated vapor and liquid, both parameters "a" and "b" in Soave equation of state are treated as temperature dependent and an extended Soave equation is proposed in this work. The VLE for 38 pure components including polar substances have been calculated. The comparison of calculated results with experimental data shows the prediction of liquid density is improved over Soave equation without losing the accuracy of prediction in vapor pressure and vapor density.

Dear Editor, Recently, engineered endonucleases, such as Zinc-Finger Nucleases （ZFNs）（Carroll, 2011）, Transcription Activator-Like Effector Nucleases （TALENs）（Mahfouz et al., 2011; Li et al., 2012）, and Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats （CRISPR）-associated （Cas） systems （Cong et al., 2013） have been successfully used for gene editing in a variety of species. These systems generate double-strand breaks （DSBs） at target loci to drive site-specific DNA sequence modifica- tions. The modifications include sequence insertion and deletion and other mutations in the host genomes via the error-prone non-homologous end joining （NHEJ） pathway or sequence correction or replacement through the error-free homologous recombination （HR） pathway （Symington and Gautier, 2011）. Here, we show that the CRISPR-Cas system can be applied to generate targeted gene mutations and gene corrections in plants, and the system can also be readily engi- neered to achieve deletion of large DNA fragments and for multiplex gene editing in plants.

交替冻融对坡面产流产沙的影响

冻融作用使土壤更容易成为侵蚀的物质来源,进而加剧土壤侵蚀程度。为了揭示冻融作用对坡面土壤水蚀的影响,该文通过室内交替冻融循环试验和人工模拟降雨试验,研究了交替冻融作用下坡面的降雨产流产沙特征。试验以未经过任何冻融作用的风干土壤为对照,设计了2种交替冻融循环周期处理(3和6)、2种土壤质量含水率水平(10%和20%)、4种降雨强度(25、50、75、100 mm/h)。结果表明,相对于对照,降雨强度相同时,2种土壤含水率下的交替冻融作用都可以使产流产沙强度增大,且产沙强度的增大幅度大于产流强度。交替冻融循环周期相同时,各降雨强度下的产流产沙强度随含水量的增加而增加。质量含水率相同时,各降雨强度下的产流产沙强度随冻融循环周期的变化相对较为复杂,当质量含水率为10%时,产流产沙强度随冻融循环周期的增加而增大,当质量含水率为20%时,产流产沙强度随冻融循环周期的增加而减小。当质量含水率为10%,交替冻融循环周期为3和6时,增流百分比分别为3.52%、4.71%,增沙百分比分别为6.13%、16.95%。当质量含水率为20%,交替冻融循环次数为3和6时,增流百分比分别为10.24%、5.01%,增沙百分比分别为81.99%、53.07%。相同降雨强度下,土壤质量含水率对产流产沙强度的影响大,交替冻融作用对产流产沙强度的影响小。该研究为冻融侵蚀机理的研究提供参考依据。

该文通过室内人工模拟降雨试验,研究了地表施加玉米茎秆汁液对降雨产流产沙强度的影响,旨在探索玉米茎秆汁液是否可以作为土壤改良剂来减少产流产沙强度。试验设计了2种玉米茎秆汁液的施加量(400和800 g)、4种施加浓度(10%、25%、50%和75%)和4种降雨强度(50、25、75、100 mm/h)。结果表明,各施加浓度和施加量的玉米茎秆汁液都能够减少降雨产流产沙强度,且相同条件下的产沙强度减小程度大于产流强度减小程度。当玉米茎秆汁液的施加量为400 g时,随着施加浓度从10%增加至25%、50%和75%,减流百分比分别为31.243%、31.685%、34.595%和39.475%,减沙百分比分别为23.167%、41.993%、37.918%和64.606%;当玉米茎秆汁液的施加量为800 g时,随着施加浓度从10%增加至25%、50%、75%,减流百分比分别为37.583%、56.433%、63.170%和76.360%,减沙百分比分别为48.214%、77.219%、88.572%和95.539%。当施加量和降雨强度相同时,产流产沙强度与施加浓度之间呈显著的指数函数递减关系,产沙强度随降雨强度的变化呈显著的幂函数递增关系。当施加量为400 g时,各施加浓度下的产流强度与降雨强度之间呈显著的线性函数递增关系,当施加量为800 g时,各施加浓度下的产流强度随降雨强度呈显著的指数函数递增关系。研究为水力侵蚀的防治提供了新思路,为水蚀荒漠化的防治提供了新方法。

This paper highlights past efforts in developing erosion process concepts that lead to the development of the current process-based erosion prediction model, i.e., WEPP. Recent progress includes the development of a multiple-box system that can simulate hillslope hydrologic conditions. Laboratory procedures enable the quantification of near-surface hydrologic effects, i.e., artesian seepage vs. drainage, on the soil erosion process and sediment regime, flow hydraulics, and sediment transport and deposition processes. These recent findings improve soil erosion science and provide new erosion control strategies that may have additional environmental benefits relative to the traditional erosion control practices. The paper also discusses the potential impacts of the erosion process on erosion model development and future research directions of soil erosion process research and model development .
