Rock bursts have become one of the most severe risks in underground coal mining and its early warning is an important component in the safety management. Microseismic(MS) monitoring is considered potentially as a powerful tool for the early warning of rock burst. In this study, an MS multi-parameter index system was established and the critical values of each index were estimated based on the normalized multi-information warning model of coal-rock dynamic failure. This index system includes bursting strain energy(BSE) index, time-space-magnitude independent information(TSMII) indices and timespace-magnitude compound information(TSMCI) indices. On the basis of this multi-parameter index system, a comprehensive analysis was conducted via introducing the R-value scoring method to calculate the weights of each index. To calibrate the multi-parameter index system and the associated comprehensive analysis, the weights of each index were first confirmed using historical MS data occurred in LW402102 of Hujiahe Coal Mine(China) over a period of four months. This calibrated comprehensive analysis of MS multi-parameter index system was then applied to pre-warn the occurrence of a subsequent rock burst incident in LW 402103. The results demonstrate that this multi-parameter index system combined with the comprehensive analysis are capable of quantitatively pre-warning rock burst risk.

Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)is a highly malignant and heterogeneous cancer with limited therapeutic options and prognosis prediction ***,we analyzed formalin-fixed,paraffin-embedded(FFPE)samples of surgical resections by proteomic profiling,and stratified SCLC into three proteomic subtypes(S-I,S-II,and S-III)with distinct clinical outcomes and chemotherapy *** proteomic subtyping was an independent prognostic factor and performed better than current tumor–node–metastasis or Veterans Administration Lung Study Group staging *** subtyping results could be further validated using FFPE biopsy samples from an independent cohort,extending the analysis to both surgical and biopsy *** signatures of the S-II subtype in particular suggested potential benefits from *** overexpressed proteins in S-III,the worst prognostic subtype,allowed us to nominate potential therapeutic targets,indicating that patient selection may bring new hope for previously failed clinical ***,analysis of an independent cohort of SCLC patients who had received immunotherapy validated the prediction that the S-II patients had better progression-free survival and overall survival after first-line ***,our study provides the rationale for future clinical investigations to validate the current findings for more accurate prognosis prediction and precise treatments.

New artificial neural networks for true triaxial stress state analysis and demonstration of intermediate principal stress effects on intact rock strength

Simulations are conducted using five new artificial neural networks developed herein to demonstrate and investigate the behavior of rock material under polyaxial loading. The effects of the intermediate principal stress on the intact rock strength are investigated and compared with laboratory results from the literature. To normalize differences in laboratory testing conditions, the stress state is used as the objective parameter in the artificial neural network model predictions. The variations of major principal stress of rock material with intermediate principal stress, minor principal stress and stress state are investigated. The artificial neural network simulations show that for the rock types examined, none were independent of intermediate principal stress effects. In addition, the results of the artificial neural network models, in general agreement with observations made by others, show （a） a general trend of strength increasing and reaching a peak at some intermediate stress state factor, followed by a decline in strength for most rock types; （b） a post-peak strength behavior dependent on the minor principal stress, with respect to rock type; （c） sensitivity to the stress state, and to the interaction between the stress state and uniaxial compressive strength of the test data by the artificial neural networks models （two-way analysis of variance; 95% confidence interval）. Artificial neural network modeling, a self-learning approach to polyaxial stress simulation, can thus complement the commonly observed difficult task of conducting true triaxial laboratory tests, and/or other methods that attempt to improve two-dimensional （2D） failure criteria by incorporating intermediate principal stress effects.

The hydrochemical characterization and irrigation suitability assessment of the GangesBrahmaputra River System(GBRS)has immense importance for the livelihoods of people and ecosystem sustainability in the *** study aims to assess the hydrochemical characteristics and evaluate the irrigation suitability of water in the GBRS by reviewing published literature of the major *** studied rivers were categorized into two groups namely Group-1 and Group-2 considering the similarities of climatic patterns,hydrochemical attributes,and drainage *** hydrochemistry of the river water was characterized by the Piper diagram,Gibbs plot,mixing plots,and ionic ***,irrigation water qualities were evaluated by electrical conductivity(EC),sodium percentage(Na%),sodium adsorption ratio(SAR),magnesium hazard(MH),and Wilcox *** results indicated that the hydrochemistry of the GBRS was slightly alkaline to alkaline(7.42-8.78)in *** average concentrations of most of the chemical attributes showed higher in Group-1,whereas the average concentrations of K^(+) and NO_(3)^(-) were found higher in *** average concentration of the major ions followed the dominancy order Ca^(2+)>Mg^(2+)>Na^(+)>K^(+) for cations and HCO_(3)^(-)>SO_(4)^(2-)>Cl^(-)>NO_(3)^(-) for anions in both *** plot and mixing plot indicated that carbonate rock weathering dominates the hydrochemical process,which was further confirmed by the Piper diagram and the ionic *** the analyses of irrigational water quality,almost all the rivers(except Gomti River in terms of MH and Rangit River in terms of Na%)in the GBRS were found to be suitable based on EC,SAR,Na%,MH,and Wilcox ***,the majority of river systems in the GBRS were characterized by carbonate dominated lithology and irrigational water quality is mostly suitable for *** study could be useful for water quality management in the glacial-fed Himalayan river under t

Thanks to the destructive earthquakes of 1906, 1941, 1946, 1994 and 1999, we have obtained an up-to-date movement picture to understand the seismotectonics of the Tainan basin more fully. This picture is simply a new version of the surface trace of the dextrally mobile Ichu fault, which is of unparalleled importance in the pre-sent-day tectonization of southwestern Taiwan. We have learned from the picture that the well-known Meishan fault and Hsinhwa fault are not independent seismogenic fault themselves but particularly active segment of the Ichu fault. The source location of the 16 September 1994 Taiwan Strait earthquake is near the western boundary of Tainan basin. The source mechanism of this event consistently shows a pure normal faulting with striking ap-proximately E-W. It indicated that normal faulting processes induced from the shear of dextral strike-slip faults are active in the historically subsiding Tainan basin. Also found in the same picture is a fault-framed earthquake swarm in which the epicenter of the main shock and many aftershocks of the 1941 and 1999 event were concentrated. Plus, this swarm of the parallelogram shape is structurally a typical contractional strike-slip duplex freshly built up at a double restraining bend of the Ichu fault. All of the above and some other details support our longtime believe that the Ichu fault has been the powerful tectonic motor responsible for the sideways crustal movements in, and the resultant high seismicity of, southwestern Taiwan.

AIM To investigate the effects of sleeve gastrectomy plus trunk vagotomy(SGTV) compared with sleeve gastrectomy(SG) in a diabetic rat *** SGTV, SG, TV and Sham operations were performed on rats with diabetes induced by high-fat diet and streptozotocin. Body weight, food intake, oral glucose tolerance test, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR), hepatic insulin signaling(IR, IRS1, IRS2, PI3 K and AKT), oral glucose stimulatedinsulin secretion, GLP-1 and ghrelin were compared at various postoperative *** Both SG and SGTV resulted in better glucose tolerance, lower HOMA-IR, up-regulated hepatic insulin signaling, higher levels of oral glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, higher postprandial GLP-1 and lower fasting ghrelin levels than the TV and Sham groups. No significant differences were observed between the SG and SGTV groups. In addition, no significant differences were found between the TV and Sham groups in terms of glucose tolerance, HOMA-IR, hepatic insulin signaling, oral glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, postprandial GLP-1 and fasting ghrelin levels. No differences in body weight and food intake were noted between the four *** SGTV is feasible for diabetes control and is independent of weight loss. However, SGTV did not result in a better improvement in diabetes than SG alone.

Clear-water local scouring around three piers in a tandem arrangement

Experiments of local scouring around three piers were carried out under steady clear-water conditions. We investigated the role of pier spacing and flow rate in scour depth and progression. The scour-hole depth around the upstream pier was the same as that for single piers and independent of pier spacing. The scour behavior of the middle and downstream piers progressed through a synchronous scouring region, a transition region, and a radical deviation region as the fluid velocity increased. The critical velocity from the synchronous scouring region to the transition region for the middle and downstream piers was the same, which linearly increased with pier spacing. The degree of deviation in the radical deviation region for the middle and downstream piers was dependent on the pier spacing. The critical velocity from the transition region to the radical deviation region for the middle pier increased with the pier spacing. When the spacing was larger than 11 times the diameter of a pier, the scour depths of the three-pier configuration were the same as for the single piers, which indicates the limit of inter-pier fluid–structure interaction. Finally, the data from this study are used to derive adjustment factors to predict the local scour depth around three piers.

An Intellectual Property Protection(IPP)system is one of the key element in a system of national ***,the core conflict for China’s IPP is its ability to protect intellectual *** on its position as a developing country,this paper theoretically and empirically analyzes the role that IPP plays in the process of building an innovative-oriented ***,we construct a duopoly model to show that,according to the strength of the innovation capability,the process of building an innovation-oriented nation can be divided into three stages:the initial stage,the transitional stage,and the advanced *** the initial stage,having relative weak innovative capability in overall economy,a nation blindly exerting IPP may lead the economy into a vicious cycle of“innovation traps”.Corresponding to different stages,the value of optimal protection of intellectual property is ***,using provincial panel data from 1995 to 2008 in China,this paper empirically analyzes the optimal level of *** result shows that the creative capability of China currently is more sensitive to imitation than to independent innovation,which means that China may be just in the transition stage of building an innovative-oriented *** last,a preliminary discussion is made to explore modes of regulating IPP in the process of building an innovative-oriented China.
