A polymer filament consisting of many similar molecules linked in a one-dimensional array is very flexible. As a result, shapes with a relatively large curvature can be accommodated elastically. When loosely confined in a thermal environment, such a flexible strand may become tangled owing to its flexibility. When confined within a narrow ＂tube＂ over its full length, a flexible molecule may behave quite differently. Here, we consider the qualitative nature of deformation of an individual filament when confined within a tube. Commonly the tube is formed within the cluster by a large number of surrounding filaments of the same type.

This paper concerns the dimension reduction in regression for large data set. The authors introduce a new method based on the sliced inverse regression approach, cMled cluster-based regularized sliced inverse regression. The proposed method not only keeps the merit of considering both response and predictors＇ information, but also enhances the capability of handling highly correlated variables. It is justified under certain linearity conditions. An empirical application on a macroeconomic data set shows that the proposed method has outperformed the dynamic factor model and other shrinkage methods.

Market data for financial studies typically derives from either historical transactions or contemporaneous surveys of sentiment and *** research communities analyzing data from these opposing categories of source data see themselves as distinct,with advantages not shared by the *** research investigates these latter claims in an information theoretic context,and suggests where methods and controls can be *** current research develops a Fisher Information metric for Likert scales,and explores the effect of particular survey design decisions or results on the information content.A Fisher Information metric outperforms earlier metrics by converging reliably to values that are intuitive in the sense that they suggest that information captured from subjects is fairly *** results of the analysis suggest that varying bias and response dispersion inherent in specific surveys may require increases of sample size by several orders of magnitude to compensate for information loss and in order to derive valid conclusions at a given significance and power of tests.A prioritization of quality of design,and the factors relevant to survey design are presented in the conclusions,and illustrative examples provide insight and guidance to the assessment of information content in a survey.

The rise of automation and machine learning(ML)in electron microscopy has the potential to revolutionize materials research through autonomous data collection and processing.A significant challenge lies in developing ML models that rapidly generalize to large data sets under varying experimental *** address this by employing a cycle generative adversarial network(CycleGAN)with a reciprocal space discriminator,which augments simulated data with realistic spatial frequency *** allows the CycleGAN to generate images nearly indistinguishable from real data and provide labels for ML *** showcase our approach by training a fully convolutional network(FCN)to identify single atom defects in a 4.5 million atom data set,collected using automated acquisition in an aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope(STEM).Our method produces adaptable FCNs that can adjust to dynamically changing experimental variables with minimal intervention,marking a crucial step towards fully autonomous harnessing of microscopy big data.

In the past decade,the surging demand for portable electronics,electric vehicles,and stationary energy storage grids has triggered a noticeable rise in the production of Li-ion batteries(LIBs).However,this swift rise is now hindered by relying on the use of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP),a repro-toxic solvent,in the current cathode processing of *** overcome this challenge,here we have investigated triethyl phosphate(TEP) as a greener alternative to *** compatibility with polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)binder,the slurry rheology,the electrode morphology and cell performance with Ni-rich cathodes are *** results show that TEP-based samples possess indistinguishable characteristics in all as pects studied when compared with NMP,revealing that TEP is a promising substitute for NMP in processing Ni-rich *** is anticipated that this green solvent,TEP,will draw attention from industry in the real-world LIB application in the future.

Physical and mathematical arguments are presented for equipartition as the statistical state achieved by a ran- dom field, independent of its sources, in the limit of enough scattering. The arguments are simplest for the case of thermally excited fields, but are shown to apply also, with caveats, in non-equilibrium acoustics and seismology. Practical implications are discussed.

We use machine learning tools for the design and discovery of ABO3-type perovskite oxides for various energy applications,using over 7000 data points from the *** demonstrate a robust learning framework for efficient and accurate prediction of total conductivity of perovskites and their classification based on the type of charge carrier at different conditions of temperature and *** evaluating a set of>100 features,we identify average ionic radius,minimum electronegativity,minimum atomic mass,minimum formation energy of oxides for all B-site,and B-site dopant ions of the perovskite as the crucial and relevant predictors for determining conductivity and the type of charge *** models are validated by predicting the conductivity of compounds absent in the training *** screen 1793 undoped and 95,832 A-site and B-site doped perovskites to report the perovskites with high conductivities,which can be used for different energy applications,depending on the type of the charge carriers.
