The literature reviewed places P. glaucum as a cereal characterized by its nutritional quality and high tolerance to drought stress. However, very little is known about the fine mechanism it uses in response to water stress. To try to clarify this point, we carried out an analysis of the modulation of the expression of regulatory genes of the FT bZIP family. A full genome screening of P. glaucum identified 52 putative FT bZIPs, identifying 9 FT PgbZIP differentially expressed under water stress conditions filtered from RNA-seq data from a Transcriptome deposited at the NCBI. The promoter regions of these genes presented multiple elements or cis ABREs and DRE motifs, thus suggesting their double modulated participation in the slow or adaptive response and in the rapid response of this cereal to water stress. The findings of this study provide complementary data for the understanding of the mechanism behind the adaptation of P. glaucum under water stress, and may be relevant for molecular applications of potential crops.

Evaluation of Taping in the Lymphatic System through Lymphoscintigraphy of Upper and Lower Limbs: A Case Study

Introduction: Lymphatic taping has been used extensively in several areas of physical therapy, and has been prominent in the treatment of edema. Its results are considered empirical and no study reports its effect observed by a lymphocyte count study. Purpose: To verify the performance of lymphatic taping in the lymphatic system using lymphoscintigraphy examination. Methods: A 44-year-old male patient with no clinical signs of lymphatic alteration underwent lymphoscintigraphy examination prior to and after application of lymphatic taping in the upper and lower limbs on different days of placement to verify if the use of lymphatic taping may influence the lymph flow. Results: The result was an improvement in the lymphatic flow with application of lymphatic taping only in the lower limbs, where the taping acted only for 24 hours. There was a greater amount of radiopharmaceutical extracted in the feet of the patient, comparing pre- and post-application of taping. At the foot of the left lower limb, the absorption ratio doubled. There was also improvement in the right limb, but on a smaller scale. Conclusion: Through the evaluation of the lymphatic system by lymphoscintigraphy it can be observed that the values analyzed are relatively higher when the patient has lymphatic taping applied with both 10% and 20% of tension in the lower limbs.

This study discusses the development of a mathematical model that is capable ofpredicting the drop size mean diameter of the spray generated by a pressure swirl atomizer,considering the effects of the liquid’s viscosity and the geometrical parameters of this typeof injector, as well as the angle of incidence of the inlet channels (j and b) and atomizationparameters (k, 8), obtained from hyperbolic relations. Additionally, this model investigatesthe phenomena of rupture and stability that are observed in the conical liquid film, in whichthe importance of a new geometrical parameter of atomization, “8”, which immediately influences the drop size diameter of the spray, should be highlighted. The results that are obtainedusing this model are compared with analytical results of Couto, Wang and Lefebvre, Jasuja,Radcliffe and Lefebvre, experimental results and numerics (Hollow cone atomization model),using the Ansys Fluent software for the validation and consistency of the model proposed in Rivas (2015). This model yields good approximations as compared to that yielded using otheralternative mathematical models, demonstrating that the new atomization geometric parameter“8” is an “adjustment” factor that exhibits considerable significance while designing pressureswirl atomizers according to the required SMD. Furthermore, this model is easy to use, withreliable results, and has the advantage of saving computational time.

Background: Although laparoscopic gastrectomy is becoming more popular as a curative therapy for gastric cancer, there are concerns about its oncological adequacy. We have compared the outcomes of laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) and laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy (LSG), both with modified D2 lymphadenectomies for the treatment of advanced gastric cancers. Aim: To compare the outcomes of laparoscopic (total and subtotal) gastrectomy with modified D2 lymphadenectomy for the treatment of gastric cancer, contributing to the literature regarding the overall survival of these patients and postoperative complications. Methods: From 1993 to 2014, 239 patients were operated on laparoscopic gastrectomy at our department. The routinely laparoscopic gastrectomy was performed in all patients with gastric cancer including those presenting with obstruction and bleeding. Data could be collected, on a retrospective way, from 2006 to 2014, from the medical records of 103 patients who underwent LSG (n = 72) or LTG (n = 31). We excluded patients with metastatic disease and those who could not have a complete tumor resection. Results: Most patients were in advanced stages of cancer. Adenocarcinoma was the most common find, with 43% of cases in stage IIA and 31% in stage IIIB. Intracorporeal Roux-en-Y or Billroth II anastomoses were employed. Postoperative complications, for LSG and LTG, were 18% and 35.4%;mortality rate, during hospital stay, was 4.9% and 7.7%;three-year survival rate, 53.1% and 59.3%;and five-year survival rate, 46.9% and 40.7%. Purpose The aim was to explore five established SNPs(rs1815739,rs1805086,rs2700352,rs28497577,and rs28357094)that are known to modulate skeletal muscle protein kinetics in response to creatine *** A randomized,placebo-controlled,repeated measures design was ***(n=152)were rand-omized divided into one of two groups:CREA(20 g/day creatine monohydrate)or PLAC:(dextrose)for 7 *** were assessed,and participants were classified *** and after supplementation,anthropometrics(height and body mass)and performance measures(vertical jump,countermovement vertical jump,squat jump,abdominal crunches,and maximum push-ups)were *** CREA gained more body mass than PLAC(CREA:Δ0.864±0.06 kg;PLAC:Δ0.154±0.07 kg,P<0.001).In the CREA group,the presence of an A allele for the MYLK1 polymorphism was related to changes in countermovement jump height(P=0.027;effect size[d]=0.41)and leg power(P=0.040,effect size[d]=0.18).The total number of abdominal crunches after supplementation was influenced by treatments and SPP1 gene(P=0.041).A higher number of abdominal crunches was associated with the G allele in the CREA group and the TT genotype in the PLAC group(effect size[d]=0.04).Conclusion Collectively,short-term creatine supplementation increased body mass but was unable to alter muscle ***,following creatine supplementation,participants expressing A alleles in the MYLK1 polymorphism had a greater increase in jump height and leg power and participants expressing G alleles in the SPP1 gene had greater improve-ments in abdominal crunch performance.

BACKGROUND To achieve the elimination of hepatitis B and C,there is an urgent need to develop alternative strategies to increase the access of diagnosis,particularly among key populations such as people living with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV),individuals with coagulopathies and chronic kidney disease(CKD)*** To evaluate the use of dried blood spot(DBS)in the detection of hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)*** A total of 430 individuals comprised of people living with HIV,coagulopathies and CKD provided paired serum and DBS ***,anti-HBc and anti-HCV were tested in those samples using a commercial *** and selected behavioral variables were evaluated to assess possible association with HBV and HCV *** Using DBS,HBsAg prevalence varied from 3.9%to 22.1%,anti-HBc rates varied from 25.5%to 45.6%and anti-HCV positivity ranged from 15.9%to 41.2%in key *** of HBV and HCV tests using DBS varied from 88.9%to 100%.The HBsAg assay demonstrated the best performance in CKD and coagulopathy individuals and the anti-HCV test had a sensitivity and specificity of 100%in people living with *** of HBV and HCV detection in DBS varied from 90.2%to 100%.In the CKD group,HBsAg positivity was associated with infrequent use of condoms,and anti-HBc positivity was associated with sharing nail cutters/razors/***-HCV reactivity was positively associated with a history of transplantation and length of time using hemodialysis in both *** people living with HIV,only the male gender was associated with anti-HBc positivity in serum and *** DBS with electrochemiluminescence are useful tools for the diagnosis and prevalence studies of hepatitis B and C among key populations and may increase the opportunity to foster prevention and treatment.

Conventional solid state reaction method,from oxides and carbonates,was employed to prepare bismuth(Bi)-based multiferroic *** undoped BiFeO_(3)(BFO)and the codoped system with Ba,La and Ti(Bi_(1-x)Ba_(x)Fe_(1-y)Ti_(y)O_(3),Bi_(1-x-z)Ba_(x)LazFe_(1-y)TiyO_(3))with x,y,z=0.1 were prepared stoichiometrically and sintered at two different *** structural and magnetic properties were investigated at room *** measurements confirm the obtaining of the rhombohedral perovskite structure of the BFO family *** the undoped system,some reflections of undesired phases are present for two different sintering temperatures,while for the doped system only one phase is present for both *** magnetic characterization at room temperature revealed remarkable differences between the ceramic *** results show that for undoped BFO system,spontaneous magnetization is not observed at room ***,in doped one,a well-defined ferromagnetic behavior is observed at room temperature,possible,due to the suppression of the spatially modulated spin structure of BFO promoted by the reduction of the rhombohedral distortion and the weakening of the Bi-O *** XPS results confirm the presence of oxygen vacancies and the coexistence of Fe^(3+)and Fe^(2+) in all the studied *** measurements reveal that the dopant incorporation has not a direct effect in Neel temperature but possibly yes in ferroelectric-paraelectric transition.

This paper introduces a mathematical model which describes the dynamics of the spread of HIV in the human body. This model is comprised of a system of ordinary differential equations that involve susceptible cells, infected cells, HIV, immune cells and immune active cells. The distinguishing feature in the proposed model with respect to other models in the literature is that it takes into account cells that represent two distinct mechanisms of the immune system in the defense against HIV: the non-HIV-activated cells and the HIV-activated cells. With a view at minimizing the side effects of a treatment that employs a drug combination designed to attack the HIV at various stages of its life cycle, we introduce control variables that represent the infected patient’s medication. The optimal control rule that prescribes the medication for a given time period is obtained by means of Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle.
