Al-Cu alloy was deformed through equal channel angular pressing(ECAP) by routes A,Ba,Bc and C up to 5 *** was done using a 90° die for three different conditions,namely 1) as received,2) solutionised at 768 K for 1 h and 3) solutionised at 768 K for 1 h + aged at 468 K for 5 *** microstructure,microhardness and tensile strength were studied for all the three conditions and four *** improvement in hardness(HV 184 after five passes) and strength(602 MPa after three passes) was observed in solutionised and aged 2014 Al alloy deformed through route *** evolution was reasonably equiaxed in route Bc with aspect ratio of *** and aged 2014 Al alloy deformed through route Bc was identified to have better microstructure and mechanical property than the other processing routes and conditions.

Estimation of Pore Charge on Zirconia Membrane Prepared by Sol-gel Route Using Zeta Potential Measurement

Zirconia membrane was prepared in the sol-gel process by filtering viscous colloidal zirconia sol through microporous alumina support and gelling followed by sintering at 743 K. The scanning electron micrograph shows that mean pore size is 543 nm and pore density is 1.47 multiplied by 10**7/cm**2. The filtration characteristics during membrane layer formation show that the membrane layer formation starts after 40 min. The membrane layer thickness and the porosity of the membrane were determined gravimetrically by finding out the amount of water present in the pores. The membrane layer thickness was found to be 3 micron and the porosity was found out to be 0.38. The pore charge density was estimated from the particle charge density, pore density, pore diameter and the thickness of the membrane layer. (Edited author abstract) 5 Refs.

The effect of the presence of Ni in solution as Ni-EDTA complex in lithiated water at roon temperature and pH 10.5 on the formation of ferrite coating on carbon steel surface was studie in an autoclave at 523 K for 12 days at different Ni concentrations with varying amounts of free EDTA. The Ni-ferrite coating was characterized by XRD, SIMS and XPS and also bulk chemical analysis by AAS and UV-visible spectrophotometer. The chemical composition of Ni-ferrite coating showed variation with depth acro5s solution-oxide interface to oxide-metal *** content of Ni in the oxide coating on the surface near solution-oxide intedece was found to be higher than the average Ni content estimated by analysis after descaling the coating

Super 304 H austenitic stainless steel with 3% of copper posses excellent creep strength and corrosion resistance, which is mainly used in heat exchanger tubing of the boiler. Heat exchangers are used in nuclear power plants and marine vehicles which are intended to operate in chloride rich offshore environment. Chloride stress corrosion cracking is the most likely life limiting failure with austenitic stainless steel tubing. Welding may worsen the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of the material. Stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of Super 304 H parent metal and gas tungsten arc(GTA) welded joints were studied by constant load tests in 45% boiling Mg Cl2 solution. Stress corrosion cracking resistance of Super 304 H stainless steel was deteriorated by GTA welding due to the formation of susceptible microstructure in the HAZ of the weld joint and the residual stresses. The mechanism of cracking was found to be anodic path cracking, with transgranular nature of crack propagation. Linear relationships were derived to predict the time to failure by extrapolating the rate of steady state elongation.

This paper reports the synthesis of neodymium substituted bismuth titanate nanoparticles(BNdT) for ferroelectric random access memory(Fe RAM) based applications using sol-gel route. X-ray diffraction pattern showed that the BNdT nanoparticles exhibited perovskite structure with orthorhombic phase. The microstructure of the BNdT nanoparticles showed that the grains were in spherical structure with a bi-modal distribution of spheres. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss of BNdT nanoparticles were measured in the frequency range 100 Hz to 100 kHz. Nd-substituted BNdT nanoparticles showed the high remanent polarization(P=33.2 μC/cm~2, Ec=62.5 kV/cm) than pure bismuth titanate(BT)(P=14.6 μC/cm~2, Ec=182.8 kV/cm) ideal for FeRAM based applications. The occurrence of red shift in photoluminescence(PL) spectrum is considered to be due to the isomerisation that may occur from the heating of samples.

The thermo-mechanical attributes of DMR-249 A steel weld joints manufactured by shielded metal arc welding(SMAW) and activated gas tungsten arc welding(A-GTAW) processes were studied using Finite Element Model(FEM) simulation. The thermal gradients and residual stresses were analyzed with SYSWELD software using double ellipsoidal heat source distribution model. The numerically estimated temperature distribution was validated with online temperature measurements using thermocouples. The predicted residual stresses profile across the weld joints was compared with the values experimentally measured using non-destructive techniques. The measured and predicted thermal cycles and residual stress profile was observed to be comparable. The residual stress developed in double sided A-GTAW joint were marginally higher in comparison to five pass SMAW joint due to phase transformation associated with high heat input per weld pass for A-GTAW process. The present investigations suggest the applicability of numerical modeling as an effective approach for predicting the thermo-mechanical properties influenced by welding techniques for DMR-249 A steel weld joints. The tensile, impact and micro-hardness tests were carried to compare the *** benefits of high productivity and savings of labor and cost associated with A-GTAW compared to SMAW process, the minor variation in residual stress build up of A-GTAW joint can be neglected to develop A-GTAW as qualified alternative welding technique for DMR-249 A steel.? 2016 China Ordnance Society. In India,bricks as building materials are mainly prepared by clay using the deposited sediments of rivers,and the radionuclide contents in bricks and brick-making clays should vary with origin and geological *** this paper,the radionuclide contents of these materials from river bank areas of Cuddalore district,Tamilnadu India are measured by gamma ray spectrometer using NaI(Tl) detector,and compared with those of other *** radiation hazard indices,which are evaluated by radium-equivalent(Raeq) activity,are lower than that of NEA-OECD.

Element profiles of some beach rock samples collected from South East Coast of Tamilnadu, India have been determined using single comparator method of INAA. The geo-chemical behavior of the elements in the region is discussed. The irradiations were done at thermal neutron flux of ~ 1011 cm-2·s-1 at 20kW power using Kalpakkam Mini Reactor (KAMINI), igcar, Kalpakkam, Tamilnadu, India. Around 19 elements have been determined from 15 samples by high-resolution gamma spectrometry. The accuracy and precision were evaluated by assaying the irradiated Standard Reference Material (SRM 1646a Estuarine sediment) and were found to be in good agreement with certified values.

Raman spectra of a complex perovskite system(Pb_(1-x)Ba_(x))(Yb_(0.5)Ta_(0.5))O_(3),x=0.0;0.1 and 0.2 have been studied at low temperature in the range of 10–250 *** fascination of the system is that it undergoes a crossover from a highly ordered antiferroelectric(x=0.0)to ferroelectric(x=0.1)to disordered relaxor ferroelectric(x=0.2).The nature of splitting that prevails in F_(2g)(≈60 cm^(-1)),F_(1g)(≈538 cm^(-1))modes and their gradual merging and disappearance with x indicates an orthorhombic symmetry for x=0.0 and a pseudo-cubic structure for x=*** mode at 420 cm^(-1) suggests the existence of rhombohedral distortion in all the *** soft mode behavior of the F2g modes has been analyzed by fitting the data with the power law ω_(s)=A(T_(C)-T)^(β).
