It is well known that a triangle can be divided by mid-point refinement into four sub-triangles with the same shape. Similarly, a tetrahedron can be parted into eight subtetrahedra, which are generally not uniform in shape. This paper proves that there exist a set of tetrahedra, which is called isometrically subdivisible tetrahedra(IST) and can be divided into eight isometric subtetrahedra, including identical and reflection ones. And a new classification of tetrahedra is put forward, based on which all tetrahedra can be categorized into 26 classes according to both the number of maximum equal edges and topological relations. The IST belongs only to three of the classes. That result provides a new viewpoint of spatial structure and may be used to tile or subdivide space uniformly or isometrically.

In this two-years surveillance of 2009 pandemic influenza A(H1N1)(pH1N1) in Guangzhou,China,we reported here that the scale and duration of pH1N1 outbreaks,severe disease and fatality rates of pH1N1 patients were significantly lower or shorter in the second epidemic year(May 2010-April 2011) than those in the first epidemic year(May 2009-April 2010) (P0.05).Simitar to seasonal influenza,pre-existing chronic pulmonary diseases was a risk factor associated with fatal cases of pH1N1 *** from seasonal influenza,which occurred in spring/summer seasons annually,pH1N1 influenza mainly occurred in autumn/winter seasons in the first epidemic year, but prolonged to winter/spring season in the second epidemic *** information suggests a tendency that the epidemics of pH1N1 influenza may probably further shift to spring/summer seasons and become a predominant subtype of seasonal influenza in coming years in Guangzhou,China.

[ Objective] The paper was to get effective soluble N protein to establish indirect ELISA method for Peste des petits ruminants （PPR）. [ Method] Soluble N protein with high expression was obtained from Escherichia coli expression system through codon optimization and optimization of expression conditions, and indirect ELISA detection method based on N protein was further established. [ Result] The assay had no cross reaction with other sheep pathogens. The intra- and inter-batch variation coefficients were less than 9%, indicating the method had good repeatability. Furthermore, totally 480 clinical serum samples were detec- ted by the assay, and the agreement rate with commercial ELISA kit （IDVET） was 98.33%. [ Conclusion] The study laid a foundation for further development of mature PPRV antibody detection kits.

Background Respiratory syncytial virus(RSV)infection in infants is a global health *** aimed to investigate the common manifestations of RSV infection by age group and human development index(HDI)level and to assess its association with the development of wheezing and recurrent wheezing *** We searched the literature published between January 1,2010 and June 2,2022 in seven *** included common manifestations and long-term respiratory outcomes of RSV infection in ***-and fixed-effect models were used to estimate the effect size and their 95%confidence *** analysis was conducted by age and HDI *** review was registered in PROSPERO(CRD42022379401).Results The meta-analysis included 47 *** top five manifestations were cough(92%),nasal congestion(58%),rhinorrhea(53%),shortness of breath(50%),and dyspnea(47%).The clinical symptoms were most severe in *** our analysis,compared to very high and high HDI countries,fewer studies in medium HDI countries reported related manifestations,and no study in low HDI countries reported *** RSV-infected infants were more likely to develop wheezing than the non-infected infants[odds ratio(OR),3.12;95%CI,2.59–3.76]and had a higher risk of developing wheezing illnesses after recovery(OR,2.60;95%CI,2.51–2.70).Conclusions Cough and shortness of breath are common manifestations of RSV *** attention should be given to infants and areas with low HDI *** current findings confirm an association between RSV infection and wheezing or recurrent wheezing illness.

Oxidative stress induced by free fatty acid aggravates endothelial injury, which leads to diabetic cardiovascular complications. Reduction of intracellular oxidative stress may attenuate these pathogenic processes. The dietary polyphenol resveratrol reportedly exerts potential protective effects against endothelial injury. This study determined whether resveratrol can reduce the palmitic acid (PA)-induced generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and further explored the underlying molecular mechanisms. We found that resveratrol significantly reduced the PA-induced endothelial ROS levels in human aortic endothelial cells. Resveratrol also induced endothelial cell autophagy, which mediated the effect of resveratrol on ROS reduction. Resveratrol stimulated autophagy via the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)-mTOR pathway. Taken together, these data suggest that resveratrol prevents PA-induced intracellular ROS by autophagy regulation via the AMPK-mTOR pathway. Thus, the induction of autophagy by resveratrol may provide a novel therapeutic candidate for cardioprotection in metabolic syndrome.

Validation of diagnostic algorithms for syndromic management of sexually transmitted diseases

s To validate our revised syndromic algorithms of the management of sexually trans mitted diseases and determine their sensitivity, specificity, positive predictiv e value and cost effectiveness Methods Patients with either urethral discharge, vaginal discharge or genital ulcer, wer e selected during their first visits to three urban sexually transmitted disease clinics in Fujian Province, China They were managed syndromically according t o our revised flowcharts The etiology of the syndromes was detected by laborat ory testing The data were analyzed using EPI INFO V6 0 software Results A total of 736 patients were enrolled into the study In male patients with ur ethral discharge, the sensitivities for gonococcal and chlamydial infections wer e 96 7% and 100%, respectively, using the syndromic approach The total positi ve predictive value was 73% In female patients with vaginal discharge, the sen sitivity was 90 8%, specificity 46 9%, positive predictive value 50 9%, and n egative predictive value 89 3% for the diagnosis of gonorrhea and/or chlamydial infection by syndromic approach In patients with genital ulcer, the sensitivi ties were 78 3% and 75 8%, specificities of 83 6% and 42 9%, and positive pr edictive values of 60 0% and 41 0% for the diagnosis of syphilis and genital h erpes, respectively, using the syndromic approach Cost effectiveness analysi s indicated that the average cost of treatment for a patient with urethral disch arge was RMB 46 03 yuan using syndromic management, in comparison with RMB 149 19 yuan by etiological management Conclusions The syndromic management of urethral discharge was relatively effective and suit ed clinical application The specificity and positive predictive value for sy ndromic management of vaginal discharge are not satisfactory The revised flowc hart of genital ulcer syndrome could be suitable for use in clinical settings Further validation and revision are needed for
