With chinese medicine (CM) deeply rooted in hong kong's chinese culture, empirical practice of CM has been the norm since the early days of hong kong, China. western medicine (WM) had its humble beginnings in hong kong in the form of established services for colonial government staff;WM was subsequently extended to the chinese population through missionary efforts. The scourge of the plague pestilenee in 1894 gave WM an advantage whence enforeed laws and regulations and the swing to scientific philosophy set a trend that snowballed WM dominance.

Background Stroke is a major cause of death or long-term disability *** patients with stroke receive integrative therapy consisting of western medicine(WM)and routine rehabilitation in conjunction with chinese medicine(CM),such as acupuncture and chinese herbal ***,there is no available evidence on the effectiveness of the combined use of WM and CM interventions in stroke *** The purpose of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the results of all individual studies to assess the combined use of CM and WM in stroke rehabilitation compared with WM *** The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines were ***,EMBASE,Cochrane and China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)were *** included outcomes were dependency,motor function,depression and swallowing *** analysis was performed,and publication bias was assessed using funnel *** of review 58 studies and 6339 patients were included in the *** analysis revealed that combined therapy comprising both acupuncture and WM had a superior effect on improving dependency and swallowing function compared with standard WM therapy *** superiority of combined therapy comprising CM and WM in improving depression compared with standard WM therapy was also *** Our results indicate that the combined use of CM and WM could be more efficacious in stroke rehabilitation compared with the use of WM therapy ***,most studies were short in duration(2 to 4 weeks)and prone to different types of biases,which prevents making any conclusion regarding the long-term effects and raises concerns regarding true efficacy in context of high likelihood of Hawthorn ***,more randomised controlled trials with more rigorous design and longer duration of treatment and follow-up need to be conducted to compare WM alone versus WM and CM combined.

Nitrogen-containing organic compounds(NOCs)may potentially contribute to aqueous secondary organic aerosols,yet the different formation of NOCs in aerosol particles and cloud droplets remains *** the in-situ measurements performed at a mountain site(1690 m a.s.l.)in southern China,we investigated the formation of NOCs in the cloud droplets and the cloud-free particles,based on their mixing state information of NOCscontaining particles by single particle mass *** relative abundance of NOCs in the cloud-free particles was significantly higher than those in cloud residual(cloud RES)*** were highly correlated with carbonyl compounds(including glyoxalate and methylglyoxal)in the cloud-free particles,however,limited correlation was observed for cloud RES *** of their mixing state and temporal variations highlights that NOCs was mainly formed from the carbonyl compounds and ammonium in the cloud-free particles,rather than in the cloud RES *** results support that the formation of NOCs from carbonyl compounds is facilitated in concentrated solutions in wet aerosols,rather than cloud *** addition,we have identified the transport of biomass burning particles that facilitate the formation of NOCs,and that the observed NOCs is most likely contributed to the light *** findings have implications for the evaluation of NOCs formation and their contribution to light absorption.

Objective:To establish that the hong kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR)government is actively promoting chinese medicine(CM)and to examine turnover rate of chinese medicine practitioners(CMPs)in hong kong,China in light of this governmental ***:This study covered two major areas:reviewing CM development in hong kong,and assessing the turnover rate of CMPs in hong *** first part of the paper is a historical *** investigation of turnover rate had two *** 1,quantitative method,involved online questionnaires;Section 2,qualitative method comprised interviews with CMPs from different types of CM clinics to ascertain the reasons for the turnover among ***:A total of 123 online questionnaires were received in Section 1(55 from male CMPs;66 from female CMPs;2 respondents were unwilling to disclose their sex).The proportion of CMPs who had resigned in 2018e19 was 22.8%(28),of whom 5.7%(7)had resigned twice in one *** rates of resignation in 3 years and 5 years were up to 40.7%(50)and 56.9%(70),*** CMPs were interviewed in Section *** CMPs were more likely to resign than *** large gap between actual salary and expectations appeared to be the main reason for the high rate of ***:HKSAR government keenly desires to promote CM in hong kong,however,high turnover rate of CMPs was detected even under this positive governmental *** is an urgent need to conduct a more representative study of the reasons for the inclination of CMPs in hong *** study highlights an important issue in CM development,and these results should remind different stakeholders in the CM industry and the government that CMPs need better career prospects and support in various areas.

A significant clinical challenge in large-to-massive rotator cuff tendon injuries is the need for sustaining high mechanical demands despite limited tissue regeneration,which often results in clinical repair failure with high retear rates and long-term functional *** address this,an innovative tendon substitute named“BioTenoForce”is engineered,which uses(i)tendon extracellular matrix(tECM)’s rich biocomplexity for tendon-specific regeneration and(ii)a mechanically robust,slow degradation polyurethane elastomer to mimic native tendon’s physical attributes for sustaining long-term shoulder *** assessments revealed outstanding performance of BioTenoForce,characterized by robust core-shell interfacial bonding,human rotator cuff tendon-like mechanical properties,excellent suture retention,biocompatibility,and tendon differentiation of human adipose-derived stem ***,BioTenoForce,when used as an interpositional tendon substitute,demonstrated successful integration with regenerative tissue,exhibiting remarkable efficacy in repairing large-to-massive tendon injuries in two animal *** outcomes include durable repair and sustained functionality with no observed breakage/rupture,accelerated recovery of rat gait performance,and>1 cm rabbit tendon regeneration with native tendon-like biomechanical *** regenerated tissues showed tendon-like,wavy,aligned matrix structure,which starkly contrasts with the typical disorganized scar tissue observed after tendon injury,and was strongly correlated with tissue *** simple yet versatile approach offers a dual-pronged,broadly applicable strategy that overcomes the limitations of poor regeneration and stringent biomechanical requirements,particularly essential for substantial defects in tendon and other load-bearing tissues.

In this study,normal values of semen analysis were set for a general infertile population of couples among which most women had normal *** predictive capacity values of sperm quality,including concentration,motile count,progressive motile count,and morphology,are unclear for women with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).A secondary analysis was conducted based on a randomized controlled trial investigating infertility among women with PCOS experiencing ovulatory disorder between 2011 and 2016 in China.A total of 1000 women received ovulation induction(acupuncture and clomiphene).We randomized the women with PCOS in 27 hospitals in China who received one of four interventions(acupuncture plus clomiphene,sham acupuncture plus clomiphene,acupuncture plus placebo,or sham acupuncture plus placebo).Semen analysis was performed for every male partner according to the World Health Organization(WHO)*** outcomes included conception,clinical pregnancy,and live *** regression was used to evaluate the predictive value of semen analysis among ovulatory women for conception,clinical pregnancy,and live *** the 1000 couples,the number of couples who attained ovulation,conception,clinical pregnancy,and live birth were 780,320,235,and 205,*** volume and motility were applied and used as prediction parameters for conception(area under the curve(AUC)of 0.62(95%confidence interval(CI),0.55–0.69)),clinical pregnancy(AUC of 0.67(95%CI:0.61–0.73)),and live birth(AUC of 0.57(95%CI:0.50–0.64)).No poor calibration was shown for these models in Hosmer–Lemeshow *** predictive capacity of semen analysis for treatment outcome in PCOS women with PCOS experiencing with ovulatory dysfunction is limited.

Starting in December 2019,COVID-19 had been spreading across the world on a limited scale for a quarter until March 2020 when the death toll in the countries comprising the association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN)finally started to ***,despite the relatively late outbreak in the region,the ASEAN market had already plunged along with other regional markets across the world amid heightened concern about the economic impact of the biggest viral killer in *** this paper,we examine the economic impact of coronavirus on different ASEAN countries separately by analysing their respective economic figures for the first two quarters in *** allows us to delineate the overall picture of its impact on ASEAN countries as well as to provide an estimation for the future outlook of the ASEAN economic *** propose that the slowing growth,the sluggish recovery of trade and the cross-country transmission of unemployment are three significant risk factors that the ASEAN economies are faced with.

This study quantitatively investigates the long-term dynamics of the association between natural disasters and the migration of agriculturists in historical China. Population pressure is also studied because migration is a population density-dependent phenomenon. This study has adopted correlation analysis, multivariate linear/Poisson regression analyses, and Granger causality analysis to verify the linkages of natural disaster-migration and population-migration in historical China by collecting updated datasets. This study is the first attempt to reveal that the duration effects of natural disasters on the migration of agriculturalists are short-term and almost instantaneous. Although the agrarian society has a low buffering capacity, the effects of natural disasters within a short-term scale could be relieved to some extent. However, population pressure can push migration on a long-term scale despite its limited forcefulness.

This paper presents the exact and complete fundamental singular solutions for the boundary value problem of a n-layered elastic solid of either transverse isotropy or isotropy subject to body force vector at the interior of the solid. The layer number n is an arbitrary nonnegative integer. The mathematical theory of linear elasticity is one of the most classical field theories in mechanics and physics. It was developed and established by many well-known scientists and mathematicians over 200years from 1638 to 1838. For more than 150years from 1838 to present, one of the remaining key tasks in classical elasticity has been the mathematical derivation and formulation of exact solutions for various boundary value problems of interesting in science and engineering. However, exact solutions and/or fundamental singular solutions in closed form are still very limited in literature. The boundary-value problems of classical elasticity in n-layered and graded solids are also one of the classical problems challenging many researchers. Since 1984, the author has analytically and rigorously examined the solutions of such classical problems using the classical mathematical tools such as Fourier integral transforms. In particular, he has derived the exact and complete fundamental singular solutions for elasticity of either isotropic or transversely isotropic layered solids subject to concentrated loadings. The solutions in n- layered or graded solids can be calculated with any controlled accuracy in association with classical numerical integration techniques. Findings of this solution formulation are further used in the companion paper for mathematical verification of the solutions and further applications for exact and complete solutions of other problems in elasticity, elastodynamics, poroelasticty and thermoelasticity. The mathematical formulations and solutions have been named by other researchers as Yue＇s approach, Yue＇s treatment, Yue＇s method and Yue＇s solution.
