Genetic Characteristics and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Arcobacter butzleri Isolates from Raw Chicken Meat and Patients with Diarrhea in China

Arcobacter is an emerging foodborne pathogen *** this study,the prevalence,antimicrobial susceptibility and genetic characteristics of Arcobacter from different sources were *** *** isolates were obtained from 60 raw chicken meat samples(16/60,27%)and 150 patients with diarrhea(2/150,1.3%).The resistance ratios to nalidixic acid,ciprofloxacin,clindamycin,chloramphenicol,and florfenicol were 83.33%(15/18),38.89%(7/18),38.89%(7/18),33.33%(6/18)and 33.33%(6/18),*** performed whole genome sequencing of the 18 isolates,and we predicted antibiotic resistance genes and virulence factors by using assembled genomes through blastx *** resistance genes,blaOXA-464 and tet(H),and the C254T mutation in gyrA,were identified in the genomes of some resistant ***,virulence genes,such as flgG,flhA,flhB,fliI,fliP,motA,cadF,cjl349,ciaB,mviN,pldA and tlyA,were found in all strains,whereas hecA,hecB and iroE were found in only some *** tree analysis of *** isolates on the basis of the core-genome single nucleotide polymorphisms showed that two isolates from patients with diarrhea clustered together,separately from the isolates from raw chicken and the chicken *** study is the first comprehensive analysis of Arcobacter isolated in Beijing.

Brucellosis poses a significant threat to public health in *** study utilized a range of epidemiological indices,including seroprevalence and the number of reported cases,to illustrate the epidemic profile of the *** the seroprevalence of brucellosis in animals(including sheep,goats,cattle,and swine)steadily decreased from a severe epidemic level in the 1950s to a low endemic level by 1989,the disease reemerged in ***,there has been a persistent increase in the frequency of outbreaks and the number of reported cases from 2006 to 2021,with over 98%of reported cases occurring in sheep and *** this period,the culling rate declined,while infection rates increased,nearly reversing their respective *** decrease in the culling rate of positive animals coincided with an increase in infection rates,indicating that infection among these animals was persistent and *** the southern regions of China,6.34%(34,070 of 537,797)of cases were reported between 2006 and 2021,whereas in the northern regions,93.67%(503,727 of 537,797)of cases occurred during the same *** time cases increased in the south,they lagged 2 to 5 years behind those in the north,suggesting that stringent control measures for sheep and cattle in the north should be *** findings provide critical insights into developing control strategies to mitigate the spread of the disease.

Acute Pesticide Poisoning in Jiangsu Province, China, from 2006 to 2015

This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of pesticide poisoning in Jiangsu Province, China, and to provide a scientific basis for developing effective interventional measures and preventive strategies. From 2006 to 2015, a total of 35,308 cases of pesticide poisoning were reported in Jiangsu Province. Non‐occupational poisoning accounted for 73.79% of all poisoning cases. A comparison of the data collected before（2006） and after（2015） this study showed a decrease in non‐occupational pesticide poisoning. Pesticide poisoning showed an age central tendency of 30 to 44 years, area central tendency for northern Jiangsu, and seasonal central tendency of occupational pesticide poisoning in autumn. Pesticide poisoning remains a major health concern in China. Government agencies together with scientists should focus their efforts on the prevention of potential threats to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, and children.

Abstract Foodborne disease is one of the most important public health issues worldwide. China faces various and unprecedented challenges in all aspects of the food chain. Data from laboratory-based foodborne disease surveillance systems from 2013 to 2016, as well as different regions and ages, can be found along with differences in the patterns of pathogens detected with diverse characteristics. Vibrioparahaemolyticus has been the leading cause of infectious diarrhea in China, especially among adults in coastal regions. Salmonella has been a serious and widely distributed pathogen responsible for substantial socioeconomic burden. Shigella was mostly identified in Northwest China and the inland province （henan） with less-developed regions among children under 5 years. Data from foodborne disease outbreak reporting system from 2011 to 2016 showed that poisonous animals and plant factors responsible for most deaths were poisonous mushrooms （54.7%） in remote districts in southwest regions. The biological hazard that caused most cases reported （42.3%） was attributed to V. parahaemolyticus, the leading cause of foodborne outbreaks. In this review, we summarize the recent monitoring approach to foodborne diseases in China and compare the results with those in developed countries.

A Reverse-transcription Recombinase-aided Amplification Assay for the Rapid Detection of the Far-Eastern Subtype of Tick-borne Encephalitis Virus

Objective Tick-borne encephalitis virus(TBEV) is an emerging pathogen in Europe and North Asia that causes tick-borne encephalitis(TBE). A simple, rapid method for detecting TBEV RNA is needed to control this disease. Methods A reverse-transcription recombinase-aided amplification(RT-RAA) assay was developed. This assay can be completed in one closed tube at 39℃ within 30 minutes. The sensitivity and specificity of RT-RAA were validated using non-infectious synthetic RNA representing a fragment of the NS5 region of the wild-type(WT) TBEV genome and the Senzhang strain. Additionally, 10 batches of tick samples were used to evaluate the performance of the RT-RAA assay. Results The analytical limit of detection of the assay was 20 copies per reaction of the TBEV synthetic transcript and 3 plaque-forming units(pfu) per reaction of TBEV titers. With the specific assay, no signal due to other arboviruses was observed. Of the 10 batches of tick samples obtained from the Changbai Mountains of China, three were TBEV-positive, which was consistent with the results of the quantitative real-time PCR assay. Conclusion A rapid, highly sensitive, specific, and easy-to-use method was developed for the detection of the TBEV Far-Eastern subtype.
