Esophageal cancer(EsC)is one of the least studied and deadliest cancers worldwide because of its extremely aggressive nature and poor survival *** ranks sixth among all cancers in *** retrospective studies of EsC,smoking,hot tea drinking,red meat consumption,poor oral health,low intake of fresh fruit and vegetables,and low socioeconomic status have been associated with a higher risk of esophageal squamous cell ***’s esophagus is clearly recognized as a risk factor for EsC,and dysplasia remains the only factor useful for identifying patients at increased risk,for the development of esophageal adenocarcinoma in clinical ***,we investigated the epidemiologic patterns and causes of *** population based cancer data from the Surveillance,Epidemiology and End Results Program of the United States;we generated the most up-to-date stage distribution and 5-year relative survival by stage at diagnosis for *** note should be given to the fact that esophageal cancer,mainly adenocarcinoma,is one of the very few cancers that is contributing to increasing death rates(20%)among males in the United *** further explore the mechanism of development of EsC will hopefully decrease the incidence of EsC and improve outcomes.

Objective To evaluate the predictive performance of anthropometric indices for metabolic syndrome(Met S)among Chinese adolescents with different nutritional *** We recruited 9,513 adolescents aged 10–18 years from seven provinces in China during September *** indices and blood pressure were measured at recruitment,and blood samples were collected for determining fasting plasma glucose and lipid *** operating characteristic(ROC)analyses were used to assess the predictive performance of anthropometric indices,including body mass index(BMI)percentile,waist circumference percentile,waist-height ratio,and waist-hip *** Overall,the four anthropometric indices showed good accuracy for predicting Met S with areas under ROC curves(AUCs)ranging from 0.86 to 0.94;similar AUCs ranging from 0.73 to 0.99 were observed for participants with normal *** performance of all four indices was poor in overweight and obese participants,with AUCs ranging from 0.66 to 0.77 and from 0.60 to 0.67,*** circumference showed relatively better performance in all the subgroup *** We suggest using anthropometric indices with the cutoff values presented here for predicting Met S in the overall and normal-weight adolescent population,but not in the overweight and obese adolescent population where more specific screening tests are required.

Objective: To determine the cytotoxicity, reduction in nitric oxide production and antioxidative activity of the aqueous leaf extract from Tithonia diversifolia(T. diversifolia) in an in vitro ***: Leaves of T. diversifolia were collected from natural habitats and extracted with distilled water using the decoction method. The cytotoxic effect of the extract in terms of cell viability was determined using RAW264.7 cells and human peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) via the mitochondrial respiration method using the MTT reagent. The effect of the extract on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced nitric oxide production in RAW264.7 cells was measured using the Griess reagent. The chemical antioxidant was evaluated by ABTS- and DPPH-radical scavenging ***: The half-maximal cytotoxic concentration values were 145.87 mg/m L and73.67 mg/m L for human PBMCs and RAW264.7 cells, respectively. In the presence of phytohemagglutinin-M, the IC_(50) on PBMCs proliferation was 4.42 mg/m L. The noncytotoxic range of the extracts inhibited LPS-induced nitrite production in RAW264.7 cells with an IC_(50) value of 11.63 mg/m L. To determine the anti-oxidative properties, the N-acetyl cysteine equivalent antioxidant capacity of the extract was(32.62 ± 1.87) and(20.99 ± 2.79)mg N-acetyl cysteine/g extract, respectively determined by the ABTS-radical and DPPHradical assay. However, the extract did not confer death protection in a hydrogen peroxideinduced RAW264.7 co-culturing ***: Our study demonstrated the immunomodulation caused by the aqueous leaf extract of T. diversifolia, resulting from the inhibition of phytohemagglutinin-Minduced PBMCs proliferation and LPS-induced nitric oxide production in RAW264.7macrophages. Although the anti-oxidative activity was presented in the chemical-based anti-oxidant assay, the extract cannot protect cell death from stress conditions.

The effectiveness of using acoustical （sonochemical） reactor for degradation of linear alkylbenzen sulfonate （LAS） from aqueous solution was investigated. LASs are anionic surfactants, found in relatively high amounts in domestic and industrial wastewaters. In this study, experiments on LAS solution were performed using methylene blue active substances （MBAS） method. The effectiveness of acoustical processor reactor for LAS degradation is evaluated with emphasis on the effect of treatment time and initial LAS concentration. Experiments were performed at initial concentrations of 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0 mg/L, acoustic frequency of 130 kHz, applied power of 500 W and temperature of 18℃-20℃. At the conditions involved, LAS degradation was found to increase with increasing sonochemical time. In addition, as the concentration increased, the LAS degradation rate decreased in the acoustical processor reactor.

Objective: To determine spatial distribution of sand flies(Diptera: Psychodidae; Larroussius group), the vectors of visceral leishmaniasis in Ardabil province, Northwest of ***: Sand flies were collected using sticky traps from the 30 selected points in Ardabil province, during May-November *** MaxEnt model in GIS software was used for ***: A total of 2 794 specimens of sand flies were collected, of which 33% were Larroussius subgenus sand *** kandelakii and Phlebotomus wenyoni were the highest and lowest collected species *** on the modeling, four areas in the province were identified with more than 70% probability of the presence of Larroussius group vectors which were at risk of visceral leishmaniasis disease ***: The distribution of Larroussius subgenus sand flies was observed in all parts of *** the northern parts of the province(Germi and Bilesavar counties) as well as central part(Ardabil and Meshkinshahr counties) were of great importance in terms of the presence of Larroussius subgenus sand flies and the possibility of transmission of the visceral leishmaniasis.

Total organic halogen(TOX) in human urine: A halogen-specific method for human exposure studies

Disinfection by-products（DBPs） are a complex mixture of compounds unintentionally formed as a result of disinfection processes used to treat drinking water. Effects of long-term exposure to DBPs are mostly unknown and were the subject of recent epidemiological studies. However,most bioanalytical methods focus on a select few DBPs. In this study, a new comprehensive bioanalytical method has been developed that can quantify mixtures of organic halogenated compounds, including DBPs, in human urine as total organic chlorine（TOCl）, total organic bromine（TOBr）, and total organic iodine（TOI）. The optimized method consists of urine dilution, adsorption to activated carbon, pyrolysis of activated carbon, absorption of gases in an aqueous solution, and halide analysis with ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Spike recoveries for TOCl, TOBr, and TOI measurements ranged between 78% and 99%. Average TOCl, TOBr, and TOI concentrations in five urine samples from volunteers who consumed tap water were 1850, 82, and 21.0 μg/L as X^-, *** who consumed spring water（control） had TOCl, TOBr, and TOI average concentrations in urine of 1090, 88, and 10.3 μg/L as X^-, respectively. TOCl and TOI in the urine samples from tap water consumers were higher than the control. However, TOBr was slightly lower in tap water urine samples compared to mineral water urine samples, indicating other sources of environmental exposure other than drinking water. A larger sample population that consumes tap water from different cities and mineral water is needed to determine TOCl, TOBr, and TOI exposure from drinking water.

Objective:To investigate the seroepidemiology and genetic characterization of hepatitis E virus(HEV) in western Yunnan ***:Questionnaire survey was conducted among1638 residents in western Yunnan Province using stratified sampling ***-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect serum anti-HEV IgG and *** RNA was extracted from patients with serum anti-HEV IgM *** open reading flame 2(ORF2) of HEV that was amplified by nested RT-PCR was sequenced and compared with standard HEV genotypes ***:Serum anti-HEV positive was found in 13.929(228/1638) *** HEV infection rate in males was significantly higher than that in females with a ratio of 1.47(P<0.01).20-30 and30-40 years old young men showed the highest incidence.20.57%and 20.78%.***10-20 and 20-30 years old young women exhibited the highest infection rate,11.85%and 15.60%,*** to occupation,the highest HEV infection rate was observed in farmers(20.35%) and migrants(16.50%).We isolated 10 individual HEV isolates from 31 patients with serum anti-HEV IgM *** analysis and phylogenetic analysis indicated that these10 HEV isolates belonged to HEV genotype 4 with the homology of 78.65%-94.71%.Conclusions:The HEV infection rate is high in western Yunnan *** genotype 4 is the leading cause of HEV infection and young farmers and migrants are the main infected population.

Influencing factors of inpatient expenditure pattern for cancer in China, 2015

Objective： We analyzed the proportion of cancer-caused hospitalization expenses in total hospitalization expenses from national authoritative data and explored influencing factors of the proportion so as to provide effective data information for more rational utilization of health ***： Two-level lineal regression model was used to explore influencing factors of ratios of the cancer inpatient expenditure over the total inpatient expenditure of hospitals in China in 2015. A total of 40.76 million inpatient medical records were used to generate the outcome variables, while the explanatory variables were from hospital information database and China health and Family Planning Statistical Yearbook and ***： Inpatient expenditure pattern for cancer（IEPC） varied largely across provinces, ranging from 3.03% to19.61%. The major sources of variability were from the differences of hospital level and number of beds. There was homogeneity within a province, while heterogeneity between the provinces. Rising one level of the hospital led to the increase of 0.475 natural logarithm units of IEPC averagely. The number of beds increasing 1,000 each made the natural logarithm of IEPC increase one unit ***： Our study showed that a considerable proportion of IEPC variation could be explained by the differences of hospital level and number of beds. It implied that it is possible to estimate disease-specific ratio of inpatient expense taking into account key influencing factors in China. Furthermore, this study is an input to economic and financial analyses and provides evidence for future study on the national economic burden of cancer.
