Hyperthyroid heart disease(HHD)is one of the most severe complications of overt hyperthyroidism and increases the risk of mortality in affected *** identification of patients at a higher risk of developing HHD can improve clinical outcomes through active surveillance and *** tissue growth factor(CTGF),a secreted extracellular protein,plays a significant role in cardiac remodeling and *** aimed to investigate the association between plasma CTGF level and the risk of HHD in this study.A total of 142 overt hyperthyroid patients without HHD and 99 patients with HHD were *** plasma CTGF levels were measured using ELISA *** clinical medical data and echocardiography parameters were recorded for *** plasma CTGF level was significantly higher in patients with HHD than in those without HHD(P=0.002).The plasma CTGF level was positively correlated with free triiodothyronin,tryrotropin receptor antibody,troponin I and lactate dehydrogenase levels and the left atrium diameters,right atrium diameters,and right ventricular end-diastolic diameters(all Pjustment for the potentially confounding variables,quartile 4 alone was significantly associated with the higher risk of HHD relative to quartile *** patients with HHD display higher plasma CTGF ***,CTGF is an independent risk factor for ***,the plasma CTGF level may be a potential biomarker for the risk of HHD.

Perfusion of individual tissues is a basic physiological process that is necessary to sustain oxygenation and nutrition at a cellular level. Ischemia, or the insuff iciency of perfusion, is a common mechanism for tissue death or degeneration, and at a lower threshold, a mechanism for the generation of sensory signalling including pain. It is of considerable interest to study perfusion of pe- ripheral abdominal tissues in a variety of circumstances. Microvascular disease of the abdominal organs has been implicated in the pathogenesis of a variety of disorders, including peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease and chest pain. The basic principle of laser Doppler perfusion monitoring (LDPM) is to analyze changes in the spectrum of light reflected from tissues as a response to a beam of monochromatic laser light emitted. It reflects the total local microcirculatory blood perfusion, including perfusion in capillaries, arterioles, venules and shunts. During the last 20-25 years, numerous studies have been performed in different parts of the gastroin-testinal (GI) tract using LDPM. In recent years we have developed a multi-modal catheter device which includes a laser Doppler probe, with the intent primarily to investigate patients suffering from functional chest pain of presumed oesophageal origin. Preliminary studies show the feasibility of incorporating LDPM into such catheters for performing physiological studies in the GI tract. LDPM has emerged as a research and clinical tool in preference to other methods; but, it is important to be aware of its limitations and account for them when reporting results.

HCV infection, B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and immunochemotherapy: Evidence and open questions

There is plenty of data confirming that hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a predisposing factor for a B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (B-NHL) outbreak, while relatively few reports have addressed the role of HCV in affecting B-NHL patients' outcome. HCV infection may influence the short-term outcome of B-NHL because of the emergence of severe hepatic toxicity (HT) during immunochemotherapy. Furthermore, the long term outcome of HCV-related liver disease and patients' quality of life will possibly be affected by Rituximab maintenance, multiple-lines of toxicity during chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In this review, data dealing with aggressive and low-grade B-NHL were separately analyzed. The few retrospective papers reporting on aggressive B-NHL patients showed that HCV infection is a risk factor for the outbreak of severe HT during treatment. This adverse event not infrequently leads to the reduction of treatment density and intensity. Existing papers report that low-grade B-NHL patients with HCV infection may have a more widespread disease, more frequent relapses or a lower ORR compared to HCV-negative patients. Notwithstanding, there is no statistical evidence that the prognosis of HCV-positive patients is inferior to that of HCV-negative subjects. HCV-positive prospective studies and longer follow-up are necessary to ascertain if HCV-positive B-NHL patients have inferior outcomes and if there are long term sequels of immunochemotherapies on the progression of liver disease.

Postoperative Elevations of Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte and Platelet-to- lymphocyte Ratios Predict Postoperative Pulmonary Complications in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)are found to increase in patients who develop postoperative complications(PCs).The aim of the present study was to explore the association of the perioperative changes of NLR(ANLR)and PLR(OPLR)with PCs in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Clinical data of 509 patients,who were diagnosed with NSCLC and underwent thoracoscopic radical resection between January 1,2014 and july 31,2016 at the Department of Thoracic Surgery,West China hospital,were *** were divided into PC and non-PC groups,and clinical characteristics including ANLR and APLR were compared between *** optimal cut-off values of ONLR and APLR were determined by receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curves and patients were assigned to high ANLR/APLR and low ONLR/OPLR groups in terms of the cut-off *** characteristics and the incidence of different PCs were compared between the dichotomized *** and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the independent risk factors for *** results showed that the ANLR and APLR in the PC group were significantly higher than those in the non-PC group(P6.6 or 0PLR>49 were more likely to experience postoperative pulmonary complications(PPCs)(P6.6(OR:2.453,95%CI:1.2244.914,P-0.011)and APLR>49(OR:2.231,95%CI:1.182-4.212,P-0.013)were predictive of *** conclusion,the ONLR and APLR may act as novel predictors for PPCs in NSCLC patients undergoing thoracoscopic radical lung resection,and patients with ONLR>6.6 or APLR>49 should be treated more actively to prevent or reduce PPCs.

Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) is a pattern-recognition molecule that binds to characteristic carbohydrate mo-tifs present on the surface of many different pathogens. MBL binding stimulates the immune system via the lectin pathway of complement activation. In certain clinical situations, often characterized by pre-existing immune compromise, MBL deficiency increases the risk of infec-tious and other disease-specific complications. Many of the key pathogenic processes inherent to common gastroenterological diseases, such as infection, immuno-logical damage, and carcinogenesis, have been linked to MBL. This editorial reviews the biology of MBL, outlines key disease associations to document the breadth of influence of MBL, and finally, highlights the relevance of MBL to both gastroenterological health and disease.

The Association between Pulmonary Function Impairment and Colon Inflammation in Ulcerative Colitis Patients： A Scientific Basis for Exterior-Interior Correlation between Lung and Large Intestine

Objective： To investigate the involvement of pulmonary function impairment in ulcerative colitis（UC）, and explore a scientific basis for the Chinese medicine（CM） theory of exterior-interior correlation between Lung（Fei） and Large intestine（Dachang）. Methods： Totally 120 patients with a diagnosis of UC were recruited and the demographics, clinical data, and blood samples were collected. C-reactive protein（CRP） and erythrocyte sedimentation rate（ESR） concentrations were measured. Every patient accepted pulmonary function test and took chest radiograph（CXR）. Results： Pulmonary function abnormalities were present in 72 of 120 patients. The median（interquartile range） vital capacity（VC）, forced vital capacity（FVC）, forced expiratory volume in 1 s（FEV_1）, carbon monoxide diffusion capacity（DL_∞） of lung, total lung capacity（TLC） and functional residual volume（FRV） were decreased in distal UC and pancolitis compared with ulcerative prochitis（P〈0.0005）. Male patients had increased VC, FEV_1/FVC, and residual volume（RV）/TLC compared with female（P〈0.0005）, but decreased DLCO and carbon monoxide iffusion capacity（KCO） of lung/alveolar ventilation（P〈0.0005）. Age was strongly correlated with RV（Spearman rank correlation coefficient（rs）=–0.57, P〈0.0001）, and RV/TLC（rs=0.48, P〈0.0001）. Age was also correlated with FEV_1/FVC（rs=–0.29, P=0.001）, forced expiratory flow in 75% vital capacity（FEF75%, rs=–0.20, P=0.03）, DLCO（rs=–0.21, P=0.02）, TLC（rs=–0.25, P=0.006）, and FRV（rs=–0.28, P=0.002）. The course of disease was correlated with FEF75%（rs=–0.18, P=0.049） and KCO（rs=–0.19, P=0.036）. Chest radiograph abnormalities were presented in 38 of 120. Pulmonary symptoms were presented in 10 of 120. Other extraintestinal complications were presented in 21 of 120. Conclusions： Pulmonary function impairment was more frequently than other extraintestinal complications in UC patients, which may be affected by sex, age, extent and course of disease. Objective:To investigate the effects of interleukin-1beta(IL-1β) on expression of IL-8 in endometrial stromal cells(ESC) and evaluate the relationship between IL-1β and IL-8,and the significance of IL-1β in the development of ***:The endometrial stromal cells obtained from patient with and without endometriosis cultured within 3～5 passage were exposed to various concentrations of IL-1β.The amount of IL-8 protein was assessed by *** expression of IL-8 mRNA was determined by ***:***-8 protein was detected in culture supernatant of which the cells were not treated with IL-1β.The amount of IL-8 protein secretion increased obviously after stimulation with IL-1β at 1.0ng/ml for 4h and the peak of secretion was at *** of IL-8 mRNA was positive in unstimulated endometrial stromal ***,after stromal cells were incubated with IL-1β,the intensity of expression of IL-8 mRNA was obviously increased and demonstrated a dose-and time-dependent *** of IL-8 mRNA was observed following stimulation with IL-1β for 4h,and the peak at ***:IL-1β induces endometrial stromal cell of endometriosis to express IL-8 not only at transcription level but also at post-transcription *** up-regulation is dose-and ***-1β may play an important role in the onset of endometriosis.【

V-J junctional sequences of T cell receptor γ gene in acute lymphocytic leukemia

T cell receptor TCR γ gene rearrangement in a series of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) patients was studied using PCR technique. 18 V-J junctional sequences (designated by N sequence) of TCR γ gene were amplified with the Vγ and Jγ primers, using an unsymmetrical PCR and analysed by direct sequencing, demonstrating that in Chinese ALLs, the N sequences of TCR Y gene are indeed clone-specific. Based on the known N sequences, several oligo-nucleotides were sythesized as probes, which were specific for the leukemic clone, and were used to detect the minimal residual disease (MRD) in 4 ALL cases. The sensitivity of this method was 0.1%-0.01%.
