Effect of austenitizing condition on mechanical properties,microstructure and precipitation behavior of AISI h13 steel

The effects of austenitizing temperature(1223,1303,and 1373 K)and holding time(1-1500 s)on the microstructure,mechanical properties,and precipitation behavior of the h13 hot work die steel were *** results indicate a softening phenomenon when h13 steel is austenitized at 1303 K beyond 900 s and 1373 K beyond 600 s,*** the sample held for 1200 s,the tensile strength is found capable of reaching up to 2.2 GPa when quenched from a temperature above 1303 ***,prior-austenite grain size increases with the increase in austenitizing *** kinetic behavior of the precipitates(mainly MC-type carbides)in h13 steel could be elaborated through the principles set forth by the Arrhenius and Avrami ***,the comprehensive strengthening of the h13 steel was discussed in *** results show that the activation energy of the transformed fraction of carbides is higher than that of the diffusion process for common alloying elements(Cr,V,Mo,and Ni)found in the *** suggests that it would be difficult for precipitates to dissolve into the matrix when h13 steel is austenitized at high *** the increasing austenitizing temperature,the precipitation fraction decreases,and the dislocation density *** dislocation strengthening is regarded as the dominant strengthening contributed to yield strength in as-quenched h13 steel.

Thyroidectomy: Frequency and Indications in the General Surgery Department of the hôpital National Ignace Deen/ChU de Conakry

Introduction: Thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of the thyroid gland. The aim of this study was to report the results of thyroidectomy in the general surgery department of the hôpital national Ignace Deen/ChU de Conakry. Methodology: This was a retrospective study, of seven (07) years (January 1, 2016 - August 31, 2023), in the General Surgery Department of the Ignace Deen National hospital-ChU in Conakry. We included all records of patients admitted and operated on for thyroidectomy and with up-to-date medical records. The variables were epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic. Results: During the study period, we recorded 3221 cases of surgery, including 40 thyroidectomies (1.24% of cases). The average age was 42.4 years. Women were the most represented, with a sex ratio of 0.16. The reason for consultation was anterior cervical swelling in 86% (n = 25) of cases, followed by signs of cervical compression 21% (n = 6) and signs of thyrotoxicosis 31% (n = 9). Indications for thyroidectomy were dominated by homogeneous goitres in 69% (n = 20) of cases, basedow’s disease in 20.7% (n = 6) and nodular goitres in 6.9% (n = 2) of cases. The surgical procedures were lobo-isthmectomies in 72.4% (n = 21), subtotal thyroidectomies 13.8% (n = 4), total thyroidectomies 10.3% (n = 3). Postoperative follow-up was straightforward in 69% (n = 20). Complications included haemorrhage in 20.7% (n = 6) and recurrence in 6.9% (n = 2). The average hospital stay was 7 days. Conclusion: Thyroidectomy is a relatively frequent surgical procedure in our department. Indications are dominated by homogeneous goitres. Morbidity is related to hemorrhage. Rigorous hemostasis could improve the quality of thyroidectomy.

Introduction: The incidence of acute renal failure (ARF) varies between 20% and 40% of cases for COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit, with very high mortality, but heterogeneous according to the different epidemic waves, probably due to the genetic variant phenomenon of the virus. The aim of this study is to determine the morbidity and mortality of COVID-19 patients admitted with ARF to the intensive care unit of the Grand h?pital Est Francilien (GhEF) according to the waves and variants. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study of COVID-19 patients with ARF admitted to the intensive care unit of the GhEF site in Meaux covering the period from March 1st 2020 to December, 31st 2021. Per-hospitalisation and outcome data were collected and analysed with SPSS version 25.0 software using the Chi-square or Fischer’s exact test or Student’s t-test and logistic regression for p Results: A total of 86 patients were included. The mean age was higher (70 ± 8.5) in patients in the fourth wave than in the other waves (p = 0.015), with male predominance in all waves without significant difference. Co-morbidities: hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, dyslipidaemia and arrhythmia complete with fibrillation were present in all waves. The majority of patients were classified as KDIGO 1 for the different waves (1st: 61.9%, 2nd: 86.5%, 3rd: 80%, and 4th: 75%), with the same trend according to variant (alpha: 80%, beta: 75%, delta: 81.3%, omicron: 75%). Mortality by the wave was: 1st: 28.5%, 2nd: 37.5%, 3rd: 23% and 4th: 11%) and by variant: alpha: 24.2%, beta: 44.8%, delta: 20.7%, omicron: 10.3%). Overall mortality was 33.7%. Mechanism investigation of enhanced electrochemical h_(2)O_(2) production performance on oxygen-rich hollow porous carbon spheres

Electrochemical oxygen reduction is a promising approach for the sustainable decentralized production of h_(2)O_(2),but its viable commercialization is hindered by the insufficient development of efficient ***,we demonstrate a promising carbon-based catalyst,consisting of oxygen-rich hollow mesoporous carbon spheres(hMCSs),for selective oxygen reduction to h_(2)O_(2).The as-prepared hMCS exhibits high onset potential(0.82 V)and half-wave potential(0.76 V),delivering a significant positive shift compared with its oxygen-scarce counterparts and commercial Vulcan ***,excellent h2O2 selectivity(above 95%)and electrochemical stability(7%attenuation after 10 h operation)make this material a state-of-the-art catalyst for electrochemical h_(2)O_(2) *** outstanding performance arises from a combination of several aspects,such as porous structure-facilitation of mass transport,large surface area,and proper distribution of oxygen-containing functional groups modification on the ***,the proposed oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)mechanism on hMCS surface reveals that-Oh functional groups help promote the first electron transfer process while other oxygen modification facilitate the second electron transfer.

Biofluidics Study in Digestive System with Thermal Conductivity of Shape Nanosize h2O＋Cu Nanoparticles

In the present article, peristaltic transport of copper nano fluid in a curved channel with complaint walls is studied. Shape effects of nanosize particles are discussed. The mathematical formulation encompasses momentum and heat conservation equations with appropriate boundary conditions for compliant wails. Sophisticated correlations are employed for thermal conductivity of the nanoparticles. The nonlinear boundary value problem is normalized with appropriate variables and closed-form solutions are derived for stream function, pressure gradient and temperature profile. A detailed study is performed for the influence of various nanoparticle geometries （bricks, cylinders and platelets）. With greater curvature value, pressure gradient is enhanced for various nanoparticle geometries. Temperature is dramatically modified with nanoparticle geometry and greater thermal conductivity is achieved with brick shaped nanoparticles in the fluid.

Clinical and Therapeutic Aspects of Genital Prolapse at hôpital du Mali about 100 Cases

To study the epidemio-clinical aspects, and the therapeutic attitudes of genital prolapse (GP) in the gynecology department of hôpital du Mali (hDM). This is a descriptive retro-prospective study over five (5) years from January 2015 to December 2019, conducted in the gynecology department of hDM. We had collected 100 cases of GP out of 989 surgeries, with a frequency of 9.89%. The age group of 60 years and over accounted for 33% of our patients, with a mean age of 50 years. Multiparous were the most affected (89%). The notion of obstructed labor was observed in 52% of patients. The most found reason for consultation was the feeling of lump in a vagina, with 65%. Grade III according to BADEN-WALKER classification system (BWCS) concerned 72% of our patients. Triple perineal surgery and hysterectomy involved 56% of our patients. Spinal anesthesia was performed in 96% of cases. Per and postoperative complications were dominated by urinary retention in 4% and by infection of the surgical site in 2%. The average hospital stay was 3.2 days. We recorded 88% of satisfied patients after the intervention. No deaths were recorded during the study. The management of genital prolapse remains essentially surgical;it requires a semiological analysis and a mastery of the surgical technique.

Introduction: Cervical cancer is a public health concern and is mainly caused by human papillomaviruses (hPV). In many parts of the world, studies are being carried out to understand the different genotypes to better tackle this issue. We conducted a study to determine the prevalence of hPV genotypes in women with chronic hepatitis B or C infection, co-infected or not with hIV, treated at the hôpital Saint Camille in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). Methods: This study was conducted from April to July 2023, including 100 women in gastroenterology at hôpital Saint Camille. A questionnaire on their socio-demographic and life style was administrated;and endocervical samples were collected using sterile swabs and then sent to Centre of Biomolecular Research Pietro Annigoni (CERBA). hPV molecular detection and genotyping were performed by PCR and hybridization using the hPV Direct Flow Chips kit. Data were analysis using chi square test or Fischer’s exact test with a significance threshold for p Results: The prevalence of hPV infection was 28% (28/100) on the sample of women tested. The most frequent genotypes were hPV 52 (8.33%), followed by hPV 18 and 68 (6.25% each) for high-risk hPVs, and hPV 6, 44/55 and 62/81 (8.33% each) for low-risk hPVs. Conclusion: This study, the first of its kind in Burkina Faso on this group of the population, reveals that the most frequent genotypes found in this study are not included in the vaccine available in Burkina Faso (Gardasil®4).

Steric Effect of Alkyl Substituted Piperidin-4-one Oximes for Corrosion Control of Mild Steel in h_2SO_4 Medium

Three synthesized piperidin-4-one oximes,3-ethyl-2,6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one oxime(A),1-methyl-3-isopropyl-2,6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one oxime(B),and 3-isopropyl-2,6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one oxime(C),were tested at different concentrations to determine their ability to inhibit corrosion of mild steel in 1 mol.L-1 h2SO4 and measured by a mass loss method(at various temperatures),polarization and impedance measurements,X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),and a quantum chemical *** synergistic influence of compounds A,B and C with iodides has also been *** three compounds show good inhibition efficiency in the following order:A>B>*** A,B and C were found to physically adsorb on the surface of mild steel while obeying the Temkin *** measurements indicated that these compounds behave as a mixed mode *** and SEM with EDS studies revealed the formation of a protective barrier on the mild steel surface by these *** electron donating ability of the studied molecules was tested using semi empirical *** studies revealed that the oxime nitrogen,the piperidine moiety,and the phenyl ring assist largely in corrosion *** studies also showed that the steric crowding by the alkyl group in the piperidine ring affects the inhibitor ***,it is interesting to note that all of the studied compounds exhibit synergism with iodide ions.
