Juvenile hormone(JH)acts in the regulation of caste differentiation between queens and workers(i.e.,with or without reproductive capacity)during vitellin synthesis and oogenesis in social ***,the regulatory mechanisms have not yet been ***,we identified a highly expressed microRNA(miRNA),miR-1175-3p,in the red imported fire ant,Solenopsis *** found that miR-1175-3p is prominently present in the fat bodies and ovaries of ***,miR-1175-3p interacts with its target gene,broad-complex core(Br-C),in the fat *** utilizing miR-1175-3p agomir,we successfully suppressed the expression of the Br-C protein in queens,resulting in reduced vitellogenin expression,fewer eggs,and poorly developed ***,decreasing miR-1175-3p levels led to the increased expression of Br-C and vitellogenin in workers,triggering the“re-development”of the ***,when queens were fed with JH,the expression of miR-1175-3p decreased,whereas the expression of vitellogenin-2 and vitellogenin-3 ***,the suppression of fertility in queens caused by treatment with agomir miR-1175-3p was completely rescued by the increased vitellogenin expression induced by being fed with *** results suggest the critical role of miR-1175-3p in JH-regulated reproduction,shedding light on the molecular mechanism underlying miRNA-mediated fecundity in social insects and providing a novel strategy for managing ***.

Abnormal lipid synthesis as a therapeutic target for cancer stem cells

Cancer stem cells(CSCs)comprise a subpopulation of cancer cells with stem cell properties,which exhibit the characteristics of high tumorigenicity,self-renewal,and tumor initiation and are associated with the occurrence,metastasis,therapy resistance,and relapse of *** with differentiated cells,CSCs have unique metabolic characteristics,and metabolic reprogramming contributes to the self-renewal and maintenance of stem *** has been reported that CSCs are highly dependent on lipid metabolism to maintain stemness and satisfy the requirements of biosynthesis and energy *** this review,we demonstrate that lipid anabolism alterations promote the survival of CSCs,including de novo lipogenesis,lipid desaturation,and cholesterol *** addition,we also emphasize the molecular mechanism underlying the relationship between lipid synthesis and stem cell survival,the signal transduction pathways involved,and the application prospect of lipid synthesis reprogramming in CSC *** is demonstrated that the dependence on lipid synthesis makes targeting of lipid synthesis metabolism a promising therapeutic strategy for eliminating *** key molecules in lipid synthesis will play an important role in anti-CSC therapy.

Selective elimination of chromophoric and fluorescent dissolved organic matter in a full-scale municipal wastewater treatment plant

Effluent organic matter（Ef OM） from municipal wastewater treatment plants potentially has a detrimental effect on both aquatic organisms and *** study evaluated the removal and transformation of chromophoric dissolved organic matter（CDOM） and fluorescent dissolved organic matter（FDOM） in a full-scale wastewater treatment plant under different *** results showed that bio-treatment was found to be more efficient in removing bulk DOM（in term of dissolved organic carbon,DOC） than CDOM and FDOM,which was contrary to the disinfection *** and FDOM were selectively removed at various stages during the ***,the low molecular weight fractions of CDOM and protein-like FDOM were more efficiently removed during bio-treatment process,whereas the humic-like FDOM exhibited comparable decreases in both bio-treatment and disinfection ***,the performance of the WWTP was weak in terms of CDOM and FDOM removal,resulting in enrichment of CDOM and FDOM in ***,the total removal of the bulk DOM（P 〈 0.05） and the protein-like FDOM（P 〈 0.05） displayed a significant seasonal variation,with higher removal efficiencies in summer,whereas removal of CDOM and the humic-like FDOM showed little differences between summer and *** all,the results provide useful information for understanding the fate and transformation of DOM,illustrating that sub-fractions of DOM could be selectively removed depending on treatment processes and seasonality.

With the development of proteomics and epigenetics,a large number of RNA-binding proteins(RBPs)have been discovered in recent years,and the inter-action between long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs)and RBPs has also received increasing *** is extremely important to conduct in-depth research on the lncRNA-RBP interaction network,especially in the context of its role in the occurrence and development of *** evidence has demonstrated that lncRNA-RBP interactions play a vital role in cancer progression;there-fore,targeting these interactions could provide new insights for cancer drug *** this review,we discussed how lncRNAs can interact with RBPs to regulate their localization,modification,stability,and activity and discussed the effects of RBPs on the stability,transport,transcription,and localization of ***,we explored the regulation and influence of these inter-actions on lncRNAs,RBPs,and downstream pathways that are related to can-cer development,such as N6-methyladenosine(m6A)modification of *** addition,we discussed how the lncRNA-RBP interaction network regulates cancer cell phenotypes,such as proliferation,apoptosis,metastasis,drug resis-tance,immunity,tumor environment,and ***,we sum-marized the therapeutic strategies that target the lncRNA-RBP interaction *** these treatments are still in the experimental stage and various theories and processes are still being studied,we believe that these strategiesmay provide new ideas for cancer treatment.

Multiple sclerosis(MS)is a neuroinflammatory demyelinating disease,mediated by pathogenic T helper 17(Th17)***,the therapeutic effect is accompa-nied by the fluctuation of the proportion and function of Th17 cells,which prompted us to find the key regulator of Th17 differentiation in ***,we demonstrated that the triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2(TREM-2),a modulator of pattern recognition receptors on innate immune cells,was highly expressed on pathogenic CD4-positive T lymphocyte(CD4^(+)T)cells in both patients with MS and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE)mouse *** knockout of Trem-2 in CD4^(+)T cells significantly alleviated the disease activity and reduced Th17 cell infiltration,activation,differentiation,and inflammatory cytokine production and secretion in EAE ***,with Trem-2 knockout in vivo experiments and in vitro inhibitor assays,the TREM-2/zeta-chain associated protein kinase 70(ZAP70)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)signal axis was essential for Th17 activation and differentiation in EAE *** conclusion,TREM-2 is a key regulator of pathogenic Th17 in EAE mice,and this sheds new light on the potential of this therapeutic target for MS.

Hepatitis B or C viral infection and risk of pancreatic cancer: A meta-analysis of observational studies

AIM: To investigate if there is an association between hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and the risk of pancreatic cancer. METHODS: All relevant studies published before 11 October, 2012 were identified by a systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, BIOSIS Previews and the Cochrane Library databases and with cross-referencing. The observational studies that reported RR or OR estimates with 95%CIs for the association between HBV or HCV and pancreatic cancer were included. A random-effects model was used to summarize meta-analytic estimates. The Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale was applied to assess the quality of the methodology in the included studies. RESULTS: A total of 8 eligible studies were selected for meta-analysis. Overall, chronic hepatitis B and inactive hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) carrier state (HBsAg positive) had a significantly increased risk of pancreatic cancer with OR of 1.20 (95%CI: 1.01-1.39), especially in the Chinese population (OR = 1.30, 95%CI: 1.05-1.56). Past exposure to HBV (possible occult HBV infection) had an increased OR of pancreatic cancer risk (OR = 1.24, 95%CI: 1.05-1.42), especially among those patients without natural immunity [anti hepatitis B core (HBc) positive/hepatitis B surface antibody (anti HBs) negative], with OR of 1.67 (95%CI: 1.13-2.22). However, past exposure to HBV with natural immunity (anti-HBc positive/anti-HBs positive) had no association with pancreatic cancer development, with OR 0.98 (95%CI: 0.80-1.16), nor did the HBV active replication (hepatitis B e antigen positive status), with OR 0.98 (95%CI: 0.27-1.68). The risk of pancreatic cancer among anti-HBs positive patients was significantly lower than among anti-HBs negative patients (OR = 0.54, 95%CI: 0.46-0.62). Past exposure to HCV also resulted in an increased risk of pancreatic cancer (OR = 1.26, 95%CI: 1.03-1.50). Significant between-study heterogeneity was observed. Clinicopathological and Prognostic Value of Programmed Cell Death 1 Expression in Hepatitis B Virus-related Hepatocellular Carcinoma:A Meta-analysis

Background and Aims:The efficacy of targeted programmed cell death 1/programmed death ligand 1(PD-1/PD-L1)monoclonal antibodies(mAbs)has been confirmed in many solid malignant *** overexpression of PD-1/PD-L1 serves as a biomarker to predict prognosis and clinical ***,the role of PD-1 in patients with hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HBV-HCC)remains *** that HBV is the most important cause for HCC,this study aimed to investigate the prognostic and clinicopathological value of PD-1 in HBV-HCC via a ***:We searched PubMed,Embase,Scopus,the Cochrane Library,Web of Science and Google Scholar up to January 2021 for studies on the correlation between clinicopathology/prognosis and PD-1 in patients with *** pooled hazard ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were calculated to investigate the prognostic significance of PD-1 *** odds ratios(ORs)and 95%CIs were determined to explore the association between PD-1 expression and clinico-pathological ***:Our analysis included seven studies with 658 patients,which showed that high PD-1 expression was statistically correlated with poorer overall survival(HR=2.188,95%CI:[1.262-3.115],p<0.001)and disease-free survival(HR=2.743,95%CI:[1.980-3.506],p<0.001).PD-1 overexpression was correlated with multi-ple tumors(OR=2.268,95%CI:[1.209-4.257],p=0.011),high level of alpha fetoprotein(AFP;OR=1.495,95%CI:[1.005-2.223],p=0.047)and advanced Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)stage(OR=3.738,95%CI:[2.101-6.651],p<0.001).Conclusions:Our meta-analysis revealed that the high level of PD-1 expression was associated with multiple tumors,high level of AFP and advanced BCLC *** significantly predicted a poor prognosis of HBV-HCC,which suggests that anti-PD-1 therapy for HBV-HCC patients is plausible.

Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy(ACM),a fatal heart disease characterized by fibroadipocytic replacement of cardiac myocytes,accounts for 20%of sudden cardiac death and lacks effective *** is often caused by mutations in desmosome proteins,with Desmoglein-2(DSG2)mutations as a common ***,the mechanism underlying the accumulation of fibrofatty in ACM remains unknown,which impedes the development of curative *** we investigated the fat accumulation and the underlying mechanism in a mouse model of ACM induced by cardiac-specific knockout of Dsg2(CS-Dsg2^(-/-)).Heart failure and cardiac lipid accumulation were observed in CSDsg2^(-/-)*** demonstrated that these phenotypes were caused by decline of fatty acid(FA)β-oxidation resulted from impaired mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR)*** worsened while overexpression of m TOR and 4EBP1 rescued the FAβ-oxidation pathway in CS-Dsg2^(-/-)*** of PPARa by fenofibrate or AAV9-Ppara significantly alleviated the lipid accumulation and restored cardiac *** results suggest that impaired m TOR-4EBP1-PPARa-dependent FAβ-oxidation contributes to myocardial lipid accumulation in ACM and PPARa may be a potential target for curative treatment of ACM.
