Chinese Medicine Herbal Treatment Based on Syndrome Differentiation Improves the Overall Survival of Patients with Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Objective:To investigate the effects of Chinese medicine(CM) herbal treatment based on syndrome differentiation on patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods:A total of 94 patients with unresectable HCC were reviewed between June 2008 and June *** analysis was performed between patients who received CM with/without non-curative antitumor treatments of Western medicine(WM)(CM group,30cases) and patients who were not treated with CM but with non-curative antitumor treatments of WM or supportive treatment alone(non-CM group,64 cases).Then,survival analysis was performed between patients treated with CM combined with non-curative antitumor treatments of WM(combination therapy group,25 cases) and patients with non-curative antitumor treatments of WM alone(non-curative antitumor treatments group of WM,52 cases).The survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier method and prognostic factors for overall survival(OS) were assessed by the Cox proportional hazards regression ***:The median survival time(MST),1- and 2-year survival rates of the CM group and the non-CM group were 36 months,76.7%,56.1%and 12 months,48.4%,26.6%,*** Log-rank test revealed significant difference between the two groups in OS(Pments group of WM were 36 months,76.0%,55.5%and 13 months,55.8%,30.8%,*** was significant difference in OS between the two groups(P=0.004).Conclusions:CM herbs based on syndrome differentiation have positive effects on survival of patients with unresectable ***,combination therapy of CM and WM are recommended in HCC treatment.

Application Status of Chinese Medicine on Cancer Rehabilitation: A Preliminary Questionnaire Survey

Objective:To investigate the application status of Chinese medicine(CM)in cancer rehabilitation,so as to provide references for improving the level of CM cancer ***:A survey questionnaire regarding"application status of CM rehabilitation in cancer patients"for oncologists(doctor version)and cancer patients(patient version)were developed,*** September 2014 to November 2016,a total of 1,000 doctors from oncology department in 48 hospitals and 2,000 cancer patients from CM oncology department from 8 hospitals in China were recruited in this *** psychological,nutrition and exercise rehabilitation guidance for cancer patients provided by doctors,their mastery conditions regarding cancer staging treatment and CM syndrome differentiation,and recommendation from doctors on CM rehabilitation were *** patients’awareness on the importance of psychological,nutrition and exercise rehabilitation,as well as their knowledge and needs for rehabilitation were also *** impact of gender,age,professional title,hospitals grades of physicians on their knowledge of cancer staging treatment and CM syndrome differentiation,and the relationship between gender,age,education level and economic conditions and patient’s knowledge along with the needs of CM rehabilitation were further ***:Totally 1,000 questionnaires were issued to doctors and 963 questionnaires returned,among which 948 were valid representing a response rate of 94.80%.A total of 2,000 questionnaires were issued to patients and 1,705 valid data finally returned with a response rate of 85.25%.The survey showed that cancer patients generally paid much attention to psychological,nutritional and sports rehabilitation,and had a strong demand for CM *** of CM rehabilitation was not well provided by oncologists,and the rehabilitation guidance as well as CM rehabilitation measures were obviously insufficient in cancer *** an

The capsule is effective in replenishing qi, nourishing yin, activating blood, and resolving stasis. It can correct abnormalities in blood rheology, improve fat metabolism, enhance func-tioning of the islets of Langerhans, lower blood sugar, and alleviate clinical symptoms. Effi-cacious also against the chief vascular complications of diabetes, it helps in abating myocardial anoxia, improving left heart function, stimulating blood circulation to the brain, resisting coagulation and resolving thrombosis, also dilating the arteries of the legs. It is of some benefit in early diabetic retinopathy and renal diseases.

Chinese Medicine Treatment Prolonged Survival in Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients:A Clinical Observation

Objective To evaluate the effect of Chinese medicine(CM)treatment on survival time and quality of life(QOL)in patients with small cell lung cancer(SCLC).Methods This was an exploratory and prospective clinical *** diagnosed with SCLC receiving CM treatment were included and followed up every 3 *** primary outcome was overall survival(OS),and the secondary outcomes were progression-free survival(PFS)and *** A total of 136 patients including 65 limited-stage SCLC(LS-SCLC)patients and 71 extensive-stage SCLC(ES-SCLC)patients were *** median OS of ES-SCLC patients was 17.27 months,and the median OS of LS-SCLC was 40.07 *** survival time was 16.27 months for SCLC patients with brain metastasis,9.83 months for liver metastasis,13.43 months for bone metastasis,and 18.13 months for lung *** age,pleural fluid,liver and brain metastasis were risk factors,while longer CM treatment duration was a protective *** assessment indicated that after 6 months of CM treatment,scores increased in function domains and decreased in symptom *** CM treatment might help prolong OS of SCLC ***,CM treatment brought the trend of symptom amelioration and QOL *** results provide preliminary evidence for applying CM in SCLC multi-disciplinary treatment.

THE EFFECT OF BU SHEN SHENG XUE FANG ON β- THALASSEMIA AT GENE LEVEL

Isoelectrofocusing electrophoresis, PCR-SSCP analysis with DNA direct sequencing and RT-PCR were used to analyze the constituents of hemoglobin, determine the pattern of globin gene mutation, and detect its mRNA transcription extent The results indicated that Bu Shen Sheng Xue Fang (BSSXF) significantly increased the contents of hemoglobin (Hb) and fetal hemoglobin (HbF), and the chain ratio in patients with β-thalassemia. The drug is markedly effective in heterozygous, but not effective in homozygous or genetic compound patients. It was suggested that the β-globin gene defects were compensated by elevating the γ/β+γ ratio, promoting the transcription and expression of r-globin gene in synthesizing HbF.

Effect of Jinlong capsule on proliferation and apoptosis of human pancreatic cancer cells BxPC-3

OBJECTIVE:To study the possible roles of Jinlong capsule(JLC) on the proliferation and apoptosis of human pancreatic cancer cells ***:The human pancreatic cancer cells BxPC-3 were treated with JLC at the concentration of 0.05-1.00 mg/mL for 24-120 *** inhibition rate of JLC on human pancreatic cancer cells BxPC-3 was detected by 3-(4,5-dimethiylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT) *** cytometry was employed to measure cell apoptosis using Annexin V-FITC/Propidium iodide(AV-FITC/PI) *** cycles were determined by PI *** expression of S100 Calcium binding protein A4(S100A4) in cell matrix was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The expression levels of apoptosis-related protein such as BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa interacting protein 3(BNIP3),B-cell lymphoma/leukemia-2(Bcl-2) and Cys-teinylaspartate specific proteinase 3(Caspase-3) were detected byWestern ***:JLC significantly inhibited the proliferation of human pancreatic cancer cells BxPC-3 in a dose-dependent and time-dependent *** promoted cell apoptosis and maintained cell cycle in S and G 2 /M phase rather than G 1 /G 0 *** expression of S100A4 in the cell matrix was *** expression of cell apoptotic protein BNIP3 was increased while Bcl-2 was ***:JLC can inhibit the proliferation of human pancreatic cancer cells BxPC-3 by stimulating cell apoptosis,arresting the cell cycle at S and G 2 /M phase which blocks the circulation of normal cell cycle and reducing the expression of S100A4 *** pro-apoptosis protein BNIP3 and lower anti-apoptosis protein Bcl-2 levels were found,which may be related to the apoptotic effects of JLC.
