One of the major problems faced in managing biomass waste to higher quality products is choosing the right *** are used as an alternative fuel,with increase in the calorific *** carbonization(HTC)is a biomass conversion technology,used to obtain solid *** study aims to utilize of Calophyllum inophyllum as an alternative solid fuel through *** calorific value and proximate of the hydrochar will be determined and analyzed to find out its *** experiments were carried out at temperature variations of 160℃,190℃,and 220℃ and holding times of 30 and 60 *** results show that an increase in temperature and holding time causes a decline in the moisture content 1.87%,volatile matter 54.03%,and ash content 12.35%,respectively,leading to elevations in the fixed carbon at 31.75%.In addition,the highest calorific value of 4149 Kcal/Kg was produced at a temperature of 220℃,within a holding time of 60 *** results showed a significant increase in the quality of solid fuels between 3500–4611 Kcal/Kg in accordance with the American Standard Testing and Materials(ASTM).Therefore,this research leads to an important finding that Calophyllum inophyllum waste through the HTC process can be used as an alternative fuel to substitute lignite coal,which is environmentally friendly.

The study investigated challenges encountered and coping strategies adopted by postgraduate students of agricultural education in writing thesis in Nigerian universities. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study was conducted in Nigerian universities offering post-graduate programme in agricultural education. The population for the study was 118 made up of 14 postgraduate diploma, 66 masters and 38 doctoral students writing thesis in agricultural education. The entire population was involved in the study. An instrument tilted: Challenges and Coping Strategies Questionnaire (CCSQ) was used for data collection. Three experts validated the questionnaire. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the questionnaire. A reliability coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. A total of 97 copies of the questionnaire were returned representing 93 percent return rate. Data collected for the study were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while Analysis of Variance was used to test hypothesis of no significant difference at P ≤ 0.05 level of significance. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was the tool employed to analyze the data collected. It was found out that 28 challenges were encountered by postgraduate students of agricultural education in thesis writing while 15 coping strategies were adopted by postgraduate students of agricultural education in thesis writing. The recommendations were that postgraduate students of agricultural education who have abandoned their thesis writing should adopt the identified coping strategies to complete their programme among others.

Cationic base surfactant, tetradecyltrimethylammonium hydroxide (TTAOH), can be obtained through anion exchange from tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTABr). Salt-free cationic and anionic (catanionic) surfactant mixtures were studied by mixing TTAOH with oleic acid (OA) or stearic acid (SA) in water. The phase behavior of TTAOH/OA/H2O is compared with that of TTAOH/SA/H2O. It was found that the phase behavior of TTAOH/OA/H2O and TTAOH/SA/H2O system differs from each other due to the existence of the unsaturated double carbon bond (C=C) in OA. At fixed total surfactant concentration (25 mg/mL) of TTAOH/OA/H2O system at 25℃, one can observe an isotropic L1 phase, and a L1/Lα two-phase region with increasing OA content. The volume of top turbid Lα phase increases while the bottom phase changes gradually from transparently clear to a bit turbid until a single Lα-phase is reached. Finally at high OA concentration, excess OA is separated from the bulk aqueous solutions. TTAOH/SA/H2O system usually forms white precipitating at 25℃ due to the high chain melting temperature of SA. When heated to 60℃, however, the state of samples changes. At fixed total surfactant concentration of 25 mg/mL, an isotropic L1 phase and a milk-white or bluish Lα-phase are observed with increasing SA concentration. Transparent thin layers which are strongly birefringent form at the tops of some samples within the Lα-phase region. Finally, at high SA concentration, excess SA is separated from the bulk aqueous solutions. In addition to phase behavior study, we also measured the conductivity of TTAOH/OA/H2O system at 25℃ and TTAOH/SA/H2O system at 60℃, respectively. Surface tension and rheological measurements were also performed on typical samples.

This study explored factors influencing an individual’s decision to pursue a career in special education.21 graduate students in the Southeast who were enrolled in a master’s degree program in special education participated in a *** survey consisted of nine questions that allowed the participants to provide information about(a)their background,(b)factors which contributed toward pursuing a career in special education,and(c)recommendations for university teacher preparation programs to effectively recruit more special education *** results were summarized *** majority of the participants were pursuing special education certification as a second *** their backgrounds varied,they all reported having prior experiences with individuals with disabilities which influenced their *** addition,the most frequently stated that recommendation for university teacher preparation programs to recruit special educators was to provide more exposure and experiences with individuals with ***,the results highlighted the importance of experiences with individuals with disabilities in influencing one’s decision to pursue a career in special education.

[Objectives] To establish a simple and rapid,specific and reproducible thin layer chromatography( TLC) method,and accordingly establish a thin layer identification method for quality control of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. [Methods] According to the physical and chemical properties,components of Glycyrrhiza uralensis were identified by thin layer chromatography. According to Veterinary Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China 2010( Volume Ⅱ) and related literature report,the thin layer chromatography identification method was studied and improved for Glycyrrhiza uralensis.[Results] When the preparation method for test sample solution was 6g Glycyrrhiza uralensis added with 30 mL saturated n-butanol,ultrasonic processing 20 min,filtered,filtrate dried,added 3 mL methanol and obtained Glycyrrhiza uralensis test sample solution. Then,chloroform-methanol-formic acid-ethyl acetate( 10∶ 3∶ 2∶ 3) as developing solvent,clear spot with high degree of separation and reproducibility could be obtained,and can be used for thin layer chromatography identification of ammonium glycyrrhetate in Glycyrrhiza uralensis.[Conclusions] The modified method omitted the step of ether treatment of samples,and directly adopted saturated n-butanol to extract components. It does not influence the detection of chromatographic spots,and solves the issue of sample gelatinizing sticking and filtration,simplifies the test process,and reduces the harm to human body.

The human Shwachman-Diamond syndrome （SDS） is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations in a highly conserved ribosome assembly factor SBDS. The functional role of SBDS is to cooperate with another assembly factor, elongation factor l-like （Eft1）, to pro- mote the release of eukaryotic initiation factor 6 （elF6） from the late-stage cytoplasmic 60S precursors. In the present work, we characterized, both biochemically and structurally, the interaction between the 60S subunit and SBDS protein （Sdolp） from yeast. Our data show that Sdolp interacts tightly with the mature 60S subunit in vitro through its domain I and II, and is capable of bridging two 60S subunits to form a stable 2：2 dimer. Structural analysis indicates that Sdolp bind to the ribosomal P-site, in the proximity of uL16 and uL5, and with direct contact to H69 and H38. The dynamic nature of Sdolp on the 60S subunit, together with its strategic binding position, suggests a surveillance role of Sdolp in monitoring the conformational maturation of the ribosomal P-site. Altogether, our data support a con- formational signal-relay cascade during late-stage 60S maturation, involving uL16, Sdolp, and Efllp, which interrogates the functional P-site to control the departure of the anti-association factor elF6.

Fifteen new meroterpenoids, littoreanoids A—O (1—15), including three rearranged skeleton meroterpenoids (1—3), were isolated from the mangrove-derived fungus Penicillium sp. HLLG-122. Compound 1 was a novel berkeleyacetal-derived meroterpenoid featuring an unusual spirocyclic 2-oxaspiro[5.5]undeca-4,7-dien-3-one moiety. Compound 2 possessed an unusual 6/6/6/6/6 pentacyclic system with a novel 1-hydroxy-7,7-dimethyl-2-oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-5-yl acetate moiety. Compound 3 was an unusual 6/7/6/5/6/5/4 polycyclic systems containing a β-lactone ring. The structures and absolute configurations of new compounds were elucidated by HRESIMS, NMR spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and electronic circular dichroism calculations. The plausible biosynthetic pathways of 1—3 were also proposed. Compounds 6 and 11 exhibited anti-inflammatory effects with IC_(50) values of 30.41 and 19.02 μmol/L, respectively. The bioactive compound 11 was selected for the investigation of preliminary mechanism using molecular docking and Western blotting experiments. Compound 11 could suppress the levels of TNF-α and IL-6, and down-regulate the protein expression of iNOS and COX-2 in RAW 264.7 cells.

Three endo-polygalacturonases(endoPGs) from a newly isolated Penicillum oxalicum(CGMCC 0907) capable of utilizing waste biomass as growth substrate were separated and purified to homogeneity by ultra-filtration,affinity adsorption chromatography,CM-cellulose column chromatography,and Sephadex G-100 gel filtration chromatography with the overall yield of 64.5% from the crude *** specific activities and recovery rates of endoPG-1,endoPG-2 and endoPG-3 were 1120 U/mg and 21.6%,1350 U/mg and 25.9%,and 1560 U/mg and 17.0%,*** three purified endoPGs had a close molecular weight to 41 kDa as estimated by *** optimum temperature and pH for the function of them were 65℃ and 5.0,55℃ and 5.0,50℃ and 5.5,*** pI and Km values were 5.9 and 0.78 mg/mL,6.0 and 1.2 mg/mL,and 6.1 and 2.0 mg/mL,respectively.

Antitumor Activities and Apoptosis-regulated Mechanisms of Fermented Barley Extract in the Transplantation Tumor Model of Human HT-29 Cells in Nude Mice

Objective A subcutaneous transplantation tumor model of human HT-29 cells was established in nude mice to study the anticarcinogenic activities and apoptosis-regulatory mechanistic effect of aqueous extract of fermented barley with Lactobacillus plantarum dy-1 （LFBE）. Methods HT-29 cells were transplanted via subcutaneous injection of 1 × 107cells into the right flank of each nude mouse. Then, nude mice were treated for 30 days with LFBE （high-dose 2 g·kg-1·d-1; low-dose 1 g·kg-1·d-1） and for 7 days with 5-fluorouracil （5-FU, 25 g·kg-1·d-1） by gavage and intraperitoneal injection, respectively. Results Tumor volume and weight decreased significantly in both groups of nude mice treated with LFBE. In addition, the cell apoptosis rate of the LFBE group was significantly higher than that of the control group and 5-FU groups as measured by the TUNEL assay. Moreover, the real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR and Western blot methods further confirmed these apoptosis-enhancing and growth-inhibiting effects. The involvement of LFBE in inducing apoptosis was confirmed by the expression of Bax, Bcl-2, caspase-3, and cyclin D1. Conclusion The results showed that LFBE could induce subcutaneous transplantation tumor apoptosis in nude mice and could be used as a natural nutrient supplement or chemopreventive agent in the treatment of human colon cancer.

A Mueller matrix covers all the polarization information of the measured sample,however the combination of its 16 elements is sometimes not intuitive enough to describe and identify the key characteristics of polarization *** the Poincarésphere system,this study achieves a spatial representation of the Mueller matrix:the Global-Polarization Stokes Ellipsoid(GPSE).With the help of Monte Carlo simulations combined with anisotropic tissue models,three basic characteristic parameters of GPSE are proposed and explained,where the V parameter represents polarization maintenance ability,and the E and D†parameters represent the degree of ***,based on GPSE system,a dynamic analysis of skeletal muscle dehydration process demonstrates the monitoring efect of GPSE from an application perspective,while confrming its robustness and accuracy.
