Intimate hygiene practices and reproductive tract infections: A systematic review

BACKGROUND Flexible intramedullary nailing(FIMN)is relatively contraindicated for pediatric length unstable femoral *** To evaluate FIMN treatment outcomes for pediatric diaphyseal length unstable femoral fractures in patients aged 5 to 13 *** This retrospective study includes pediatric patients(age range 5-13 years)who received operative treatment for a diaphyseal femoral fracture at a single institution between 2013 and *** unstable femur fractures treated with FIMN were compared to treatment with other fixation methods[locked intramedullary nailing(IMN),submuscular plating(SMP),and external fixation]and to length stable fractures treated with *** criteria included patients who had an underlying predisposition for fractures(e.g.,pathologic fractures or osteogenesis imperfecta),polytrauma necessitating intensive care unit care and/or extensive management of other injuries,incomplete records,or no follow-up *** who had a length stable femoral fracture treated with modalities other than FIMN were excluded as *** Ninety-five fractures from ninety-two patients were included in the study and consists of three *** three groups are length unstable fractures treated with FIMN(n=21),length stable fractures treated with FIMN(n=45),and length unstable fractures treated with either locked IMN,SMP,or external fixator(n=29).P values<0.05 were considered statistically *** characteristic differences that were statistically significant between the groups,length unstable with FIMN and length unstable with locked IMN,SMP,or external fixator,were average age(7.4 years vs 9.3 years,respectively),estimated blood loss(29.2 mL vs 98 mL,respectively)and body mass(27.8 kg vs 35.1 kg,respectively).All other patient characteristic differences were statistically *** complications,length unstable with FIMN had 9 total complications while length unstable with locked IMN,SMP,or external fixato

Zika virus(ZIKV)is the causative agent of a viral infection that causes neurological complications in newborns and adults *** wide transmission route and alarming spread rates are of great concern to the scientific *** trials have been conducted to develop treatment options for ZIKV *** review highlights the latest developments in the fields of vaccinology and pharmaceuticals developments for ZIKV infection.A systematic and comprehensive approach was used to gather relevant and up-to-date data so that inferences could be made about the gaps in therapeutic *** results indicate that several therapeutic interventions are being tested against ZIKV infection,such as DNA vaccines,subunit vaccines,live-attenuated vaccines,virus-vector-based vaccines,inactivated vaccines,virus-like particles,and mRNA-based *** addition,approved anti-ZIKV drugs that can reduce the global burden are *** many vaccine candidates for ZIKV are at different stages of development,none of them have received Food and Drug Authority approval for use up to *** issue of side effects associated with these drugs in vulnerable newborns and pregnant women is a major obstacle in the therapeutic pathway.

Cytosolic Ca^2＋ is an important second messenger in virtually every type of cell. Moreover, Ca^2＋ generally regulates multiple activities within individual cells. This article reviews the cellular machinery that is responsible for Ca^2＋ signaling in cholangiocytes. In addition, two Ca^2＋-mediated events in cholangiocytes are discussed： bicarbonate secretion and apoptosis. Finally, emerging evidence is reviewed that Ca^2＋ signaling is involved in the pathogenesis of diseases affecting the biliary tree and that Ca^2＋ signaling pathways can be manipulated to therapeutic advantage in the treatment of cholestatic disorders.

The Emergency Department Crash Cart: A systematic review and suggested contents

BACKGROUND: As the field of Emergency medicine grows worldwide, the importance of an Emergency Department Crash Cart(EDCC) has long been recognized. Yet, there is paucity of relevant peer-reviewed literature specifically discussing EDCCs or proposing detailed features for an EDCC suitable for both adult and pediatric patients. METHODS: The authors performed a systematic review of EDCC-specific literature indexed in Pubmed and Embase on December 20, 2016. In addition, the authors reviewed the 2015 American Heart Association(AHA) guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care, the 2015 European Resuscitation Council(ERC) guidelines for resuscitation, and the 2013 American College of Surgeons(ACS) Advanced Trauma Life Support(ATLS) 9 th ***: There were a total of 277 results, with 192 unique results and 85 duplicates. After careful review by two independent reviewers, all but four references were excluded. None of the four included articles described comprehensive contents of equipment and medications for both the adult and pediatric populations. This article describes in detail the final four articles specific to EDCC, and proposes a set of suggested contents for the EDCC. CONCLUSION: Our systematic review shows the striking paucity of such a high impact indispensable item in the ED. We hope that our EDCC content suggestions help enhance the level of response of EDs in the resuscitation of adult and pediatric populations, and encourage the implementation of and adherence to the latest evidence-based resuscitation guidelines.

It is possible to solve the paradox of Achilles and the turtle with only high school knowledge. This is the beauty of calculus, the concept that mathematicians struggled to invent and improve. In more than 2000 years, mathematicians tried different ways to study and invent calculus, and the invention finally led to a revolution in the world of math.
