A viscoelastic equation with Balakrishnan-Taylor damping and nonlinear boundary/interior sources is considered in a bounded domain. Under appropriate assumptions ira- posed on the source and the damping, we establish uniform decay rate of the solution energy in terms of the behavior of the nonlinear feedback and the relaxation function, without setting any restrictive growth assumptions on the damping at the origin and weakening the usual assumptions on the relaxation function.

The purpose of this article is to introduce a general split feasibility problems for two families of nonexpansive mappings in Hilbert spaces. We prove that the sequence generated by the proposed new algorithm converges strongly to a solution of the general split feasibility problem. Our results extend and improve some recent known results.

The initial boundary value problem for a viscoelastic equation ｜ u t ｜ ρ u tt △u-△u tt ＋ t 0 g（ts）△u（s）ds ＋｜ u t ｜ m u t = ｜ u ｜ p u in a bounded domain is considered, where ρ, m, p 〉 0 and g is a nonnegative and decaying function. The general uniform decay of solution energy is discussed under some conditions on the relaxation function g and the initial data by adopting the method of [14, 15, 19]. This work generalizes and improves earlier results in the literature.

Based on the fundamental equations of piezoelasticity of quasicrystals （QCs）, with the symmetry operations of point groups, the plane piezoelasticity theory of one- dimensional （1D） QCs with all point groups is investigated systematically. The gov- erning equations of the piezoelasticity problem for 1D QCs including monoclinic QCs, orthorhombic QCs, tetragonal QCs, and hexagonal QCs are deduced rigorously. The general solutions of the piezoelasticity problem for these QCs are derived by the opera- tor method and the complex variable function method. As an application, an antiplane crack problem is further considered by the semi-inverse method, and the closed-form so- lutions of the phonon, phason, and electric fields near the crack tip are obtained. The path-independent integral derived from the conservation integral equals the energy release rate.

Steel piles at the tidal zone can be seriously corroded. Common protective methods such as painting or coating with rubber or other protective materials, etc. cannot provide full protection when used as supplementary protection because these traditional methods require strict pretreatment and sealing of the metallic surface from the corrosive *** time for the protective coatings to solidify. This is very difficult under the severe action of waves and surges on the *** our oil-soluble DZ-2 tape, protection efficiency for hanging steel plates at the tidal and splash zones reaches to 82-99%. The protection efficiency of water soluble DZ tape at the tidal zone reaches to 92.9%. Treatment of Helicobacter pylori in surgical practice:A randomised trial of triple versus quadruple therapy in a rural district general hospital

AIM: To compare a lansoprazole-based triple versus quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) eradication with emphasis on side effect prof ile,patient compliance and eradication rate at a rural district general hospital in Wales,United Kingdom. METHODS: One hundred one patients with H pylori infection were included in the study. Patients were randomised to receive triple therapy comprising of lansoprazole 30 mg,amoxycillin 1 g,clarithromycin 500 mg,all b.d. (LAC),or quadruple therapy comprising of lansoprazole 30 mg b.d.,metronidazole 500 mg t.d.s.,bismuth subcitrate 240 mg b.d.,and tetracycline chloride 500 mg q.d.s. (LMBT). Cure was defi ned as a negative 13C urea breath test 2 mo after treatment. RESULTS: Seven patients were withdrawn after randomisation. Fifty patients were assigned to LAC group and 44 to LMBT group. The intention-to-treat cure rates were 92% and 91%,whereas the per-protocol cure rates were 92% and 97%,respectively. Side effects were common,with 56% experiencingmoderate to severe symptoms in the LAC group and 59% in the LMBT group. Symptoms of vomiting,diarrhoea and black stools were significantly more common in the LMBT group. Patient compliance was 100% for triple therapy and 86% for quadruple therapy (P < 0.01). One-third of patients in both groups were still taking acid-reducing medications at six-month follow-up. CONCLUSION: One-week triple and quadruple therapies have similar intention-to-treat eradication rates. Certain side effects are more common with quadruple therapy,which can compromise patient compliance. Patient education or modifi cations to the regimen are alternative options to improve compliance of the quadruple regimen.

It is challenging for general practitioners to make a more correct diagnosis with the least instrument examination. How to make an effective diagnosis has always been an issue. In order to achieve this goal, a clinical symptom-oriented modular diagnosis scheme based on the concept of the process thinking and Murtaghs general Practice was developed for general practitioners. Five key steps according to the workflow of real reception patients by a general practitioner were promulgated in this design of a modular scheme, which is in line with the actual clinical setting. This thinking concept of diagnosis should help prevent missed and erroneous diagnoses and meet the actual needs of general practitioners.

Background Pulse wave velocity(PWV) is a marker of arterial stiffness, which represents sub-clinical atherosclerosis. Pulsatile stress and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) are associated with arteriosclerosis. However, there is no prospective data confirming whether changes in pulsatile stress and inflammatory markers affect the progression of arterial stiffness. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships over time between the effects of changes in pulsatile stress and hs-CRP, and arterial stiffness progression during a 2-year follow-up. Methods We performed a longitudinal study involving 3978 participants. All participants underwent a physical examination in 2010–2011 and 2012–2013, during which we measured participants’ hs-CRP levels, brachial–ankle pulse wave velocity(ba PWV), and pulsatile stress. Results Baseline hs-CRP was correlated with ba PWV(r = 0.18, P = 0.000);however the correlation was weaker than that with systolic blood pressure(r = 0.65), pulsatile stress(r = 0.57), and rate-pressure product(r = 0.58). Multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that changes in pulsatile stress, mean arterial pressure, and low-density lipoprotein-C(LDL-C) were positively correlated with changes in ba PWV, with correlation coefficients of 0.27, 0.25, and 0.07, respectively, but not with changes in hs-CRP. Moreover, each 100-a U increase in pulsatile stress, 1 mm Hg increase in mean blood pressure, and 1 mmol/L increase in LDL-C was associated with a 3 cm/s, 4.78 cm/s, and 17.37 cm/s increase in ba PWV, respectively. Conclusions Pulsatile stress increases are associated with arterial stiffness progression, but that changes in hs-CRP had no effect on arterial stiffness progression. Hs-CRP may simply be a marker of inflammation in arterial stiffness and has no association with arterial stiffness progression.

Objectives To investigate the prevalence and characteristics of pulmonary embolism （PE） at autopsy in a Chinese general hospital over a period of 10 years, and to evaluate the antemortem achievement of the prophylaxis, diagnosis, and treatment of PE. Methods All medical records of deaths from the West Branch of the Chinese People＇s Liberation Army （PLA） general Hospital were retrospectively re- viewed, for the period of January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2015. Cases in which autopsies had been performed were identified and further analyzed. The numbers and detailed characteristics of patients who had PEs were noted. Prophylactic measures, along with diagnosis and treatment of PE, were recorded, if performed. Results During the 10-year period, 1057 patients died in the study hospital and 278 necrop- sies were performed （autopsy rate： 26.3%）. Nine patients were found to have PE （3.2%）, and in seven of these patients （2.5%）, the PE was considered to be fatal. Embolisms were found in the trunk and bilateral main branches of the pulmonary artery tree in all seven of the fatal PE cases. Right intracardiac thrombosis was detected in five of the nine PE patients （55.6%）. All patients with PE had been hospitalized in medical departments, and only one had undergone surgery during hospitalization. Antemortem prophylaxis was performed in two of the nine PE cases （22.2%）. None of the 9 patients had received a clinical diagnosis of PE before death. Conclusions The incidence of and death rate associated with PE may vary among different races and regions. Continuous monitoring of PE by means of necropsy in certain representative medical institutions is necessary.
