Background and Aims:Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI)is a common pathophysiological phenomenon in clinical practice,which usually occurs in liver transplantation,liver resection,severe trauma,and hemorrhagic ***(PC),exerted from various plants with antioxidant,antitumor,and antiaging activity,were administrated in our study to investigate the underlying mechanism of its protective function on ***:Two doses of PC(50 mg/kg,100 mg/kg)were given to BALB/c mice by intragastric administration for 7 days before partial(70%)warm IR *** and liver tissues were collected 2,8,and 24 h after reperfusion for relevant ***:The results of transaminase and hematoxylin and eosin staining indicated that PC pretreatment significantly alleviated IRI in *** total superoxide dismutase increased and malondialde-hyde decreased in PC pretreatment ***-linked immunosorbent assays,western blotting,quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction,and immunohistochemistry showed that inflammation,apoptosis,and autophagy in PC preprocessing groups were significantly inhibited and were *** protein,mRNA expression,and immunohistochemical staining results of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha(PPARa)and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha(PGC1a)in the PC pretreatment groups were significantly upregulated compared with the IR group in a dose-dependent ***:PC pretreatment suppressed inflammation,apoptosis,and autophagy via the PPAR-α signaling pathway to protect against IRI of the liver in mice.

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) plays a role in the patho-genesis of gastric cancer. The outcome of the infection depends on environmental factors and bacterial and host characteristics. Gastric carcinogenesis is a multistep process that is reversible in the early phase of mucosal damage, but the exact point of no return has not been identified. Therefore, two main therapeutic strategies could reduce gastric cancer incidence:(1) eradication of the already present infection; and(2) immunization(prior to or during the course of the infection). The success of a gastric cancer prevention strategy depends on timing because the prevention strategy must be introduced before the point of no return in gastric carcinogenesis. Although the exact point of no return has not been identified, infection should be eradicated before severe atrophy of the gastric mucosa develops. Eradication therapy rates remain suboptimal due to increasing H. pylori resistance to antibiotics and patient noncompliance. Vaccination against H. pylori would reduce the cost of eradication therapies and lower gastric cancer incidence. A vaccine against H. pylori is still a research challenge. An effective vaccine should have an adequate route of delivery, appropriate bacterial antigens and effective and safe adjuvants. Future research should focus on the development of rescue eradication therapy protocols until an efficacious vaccine against the bacterium becomes available.

AIM： To elucidate the role of neuropilin-1 （Nrp-1） and semaphorin 3A （Sema3A） in sinusoidal remodeling dur- ing liver regeneration in rats. METHODS： Male Wistar/ST rats at 7 wk of age, weigh- ing about 200 g, were used for all animal experiments. In vivo, at 24, 48, 72, 96, 144 and 192 h after two- thirds partial hepatectomy （PHx）, the remnant livers were removed. Liver tissues were immunohistochemi- cally stained for Nrp-1, Sema3A and SE-1, a liver sinu- soidal endothelial cell （SEC） marker. Total RNA of the liver tissue was extracted and reversely transcribed into cDNA. The mRNA expression of Sema3A was ana- lyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reac- tion and normalized to that of ribosomal protein $18. In vitro, SECs were isolated from rat liver and cultured in endothelial growth medium containing 20 ng/mL vascular endothelial cell growth factor. Migration of SECs in primary culture was assessed by cell transwell assay with or without recombinant Sema3A. Apoptotic cells were determined by a terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick end labeling method. RESULTS： In vitro, immunohistochemistry study re- vealed that Sema3A and Nrp-1 were constitutively ex- pressed in hepatocytes and SECs, respectively, in normal rat liver tissues. Nrp-1 expression in SECs was quantified by the percentage of immunostained area with anti- Nrp-1 antibody in relation to the area stained with SE-1. Between 24 h and 96 h following resection of liver, Nrp-1 expression in SECs was transiently increased. Compared with the baseline （5.2% ± 0.1%）, Nrp-1 expression in SECs significantly increased at 24 h （17.3% ± 0.7%, P 〈 0.05）, 48 h （39.1% ± 0.6%, P 〈 0.01）, 72 h （46.9% ± 4.5%, P 〈 0.01） and 96 h （29.9% ±3.8%, P 〈 0.01） after PHx, then returned to the basal level at termination of liver regeneration. Most common hepatobiliary manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) are primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC) and autoimmune hepatitis, ranking them as the main cause of liver transplantation(LT) in IBD setting. Course of pre-existing IBD after LT differs depending on many transplant related factors. Potential risk factors related to IBD deterioration after LT are tacrolimus-based immunosuppressive regimens, active IBD and cessation of 5-aminosalicylates at the time of LT. About 30% patients experience improvement of IBD after LT, while approximately the same percentage of patients worsens. Occurrence of de novo IBD may develop in 14%-30% of patients with PSC. Recommended IBD therapy after LT is equivalent to recommendations to overall IBD patients. Antitumor necrosis factor alpha appears to be efficient for refractory IBD. Due to potential side effects it needs to be applied with caution. In average 9% of patients require proctocolectomy due to medically refractory IBD or colorectal carcinoma. The most frequent complication in patients who undergo proctocolectomy with ileal-pouch anal anastomosis is pouchitis. It is still undeterminable if LT adds to risk of developing pouchitis in PSC patients. Annual colonoscopies are recommended as surveillance and precaution of colonic malignancies.
