An accurate staging is necessary to select the best treatment and evaluate prognosis in oncology. Staging usually begins with noninvasive imaging such ascomputed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging or positron emission tomography. In the absence of distant metastases, endoscopic ultrasound plays an important role in the diagnosis and staging of gastrointestinal tumors, being the most accurate modality for localregional staging. Its use for tumor and nodal involvement in pre-surgical evaluation has proven to reduce unnecessary surgeries. The aim of this article is to review the current role of endoscopic ultrasound in the diagnosis and staging of esophageal, gastric and colorectal cancer.

In Canada,the periodic circulation of West Nile Virus(WNV)is difficult to predict and,beyond climatic factors,appears to be related to the migratory movements of infected birds from the southern United *** hypothesis has not yet been explored in a spatially distributed *** main objective of this work was to develop a spatially explicit dynamic model for the transmission of WNV in Canada,that allows us to explore non-climate related hypotheses associated with WNV transmission.A Cellular Automata(CA)approach for multiple hosts(birds and humans)is used for a test region in eastern Ontario,*** tool is designed to explore the role of host and vector spatial heterogeneity,host migration,and vector feeding *** developed a spatialized compartmental SEIRdS-SEI model for WNV transmission with a study region divided into 4 rectangular *** used 2010–2021 bird data from the eBird project and 2010–2019 mosquito data collected by Ontario Public Health to mimic bird and mosquito seasonal *** considered heterogeneous bird densities(high and low suitability areas)and homogeneous mosquito and human *** high suitability areas for birds,we identified 5 entry points for WNV-infected *** compared our simulations with pools of WNV-infected field collected *** and sensitivity analyses were performed using MATLAB *** results showed good correspondence between simulated and observed epidemics,supporting the validity of our model assumptions and *** analysis showed that a 5%increase or decrease in each parameter of our model except for the biting rate of bird by mosquito(c^(B,M)and mosquito natural mortality rate(d^(M)),had a very limited effect on the total number of cases(newly infected birds and humans),prevalence peak,or date of *** demonstrate the utility of the CA approach for studying WNV transmission in a heterogeneous landscape with multiple hosts.

Sporadic venous malformations are genetic conditions primarily caused by somatic gain-of-function mutation of PIK3CA or TEK,an endothelial transmembrane receptor signaling through *** malformations are associated with pain,bleedings,thrombosis,pulmonary embolism,esthetic deformities and,in severe cases,life-threatening *** authorized medical treatment exists for patients with venous ***,we created a genetic mouse model of PIK3CA-related capillary venous malformations that replicates patient *** showed that these malformations only partially signal through AKT *** compared the efficacy of different drugs,including rapamycin,a mTORC1 inhibitor,miransertib,an AKT inhibitor and alpelisib,a PI3Kαinhibitor at improving the lesions seen in the mouse *** demonstrated the effectiveness of alpelisib in preventing vascular malformations’occurrence,improving the already established ones,and prolonging *** these findings,we were authorized to treat 25 patients with alpelisib,including 7 children displaying PIK3CA(n=16)or TEK(n=9)-related capillary venous malformations resistant to usual therapies including sirolimus,debulking surgical procedures or percutaneous *** assessed the volume of vascular malformations using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for each *** demonstrated improvement in all 25 *** malformations previously considered intractable were reduced and clinical symptoms were *** showed a decrease of 33.4%and 27.8%in the median volume of PIK3CA and TEK malformations respectively,over 6 months on *** conclusion,this study supports PI3Kαinhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy in patients with PIK3CA or TEK-related capillary venous malformations.

The critical findings associated with end-face total internal reflection （TIR） phenomemon we proved before are reported. In particular, these findings reveal that the end-face-TIR capable rays experience enormous mode mixing when encountering a roughened end face. As a result, 94% of the overall detectable power is contributed by this effect. With a smooth fiber end face, this figure is mere 52%. We interpret the mechanism behind these unusual phenomena and its significance for the performance enhancement of fiber optic evanescent wave sensor.

Peculiar and unique growth mechanisms involved in semiconductor nanowires(NWs)pave the way to the achievement of new crystallographic phases and remarkable material properties,and hence,studying polytypism in semiconductor NWs arouses a strong interest for the next generation of electronic and photonic *** this context,the growth of ZnS nanowires has been investigated,as bulk ZnS compound exhibits numerous unstable polytypes at high temperatures,but their stable occurrence is highly anticipated in a nanowire due to its special quasi-dimensional shape and growth *** this work,the idea is to provide a change in the growth mechanism via the physical state of catalyst droplet(liquid or solid)and hence,study the induced structural modifications in ZnS *** HRTEM images of VLS(via liquid alloyed catalyst)grown ZnS NWs show periodic stacking faults,which is precisely identified as a stacking sequence of cubic or hexagonal individual planes leading to an astonishing 15R crystal *** crystallographic phase is observed for the first time in ***,NWs grown with VSS(via solid catalyst)show crystal polytypes of zinc blende and *** calculate and discuss the role of cohesive energies in the formation of such ZnS ***,we present the selection rules for the crystallization of such 15R structure in NWs and discuss the involved VLS and VSS growth mechanisms leading to the formation of different crystal phases.

BACKGROUNd Primary hyperparathyroidism is typically caused by a single parathyroid *** parathyroid adenomas occur as well,with cases involving various sites,including the mediastinum,presenting in varying *** hyperparathyroidism develops in the context of chronic kidney disease,primarily due to vitamin d deficiency,hypocalcemia,and *** is frequently diagnosed in patients undergoing *** article presents a rare case of hyperparathyroidism involving multiple hyperplastic parathyroid glands with pulmonary seeding in a 50-year-old female patient undergoing hemodialysis(Hd).CASE SUMMARY The patient had a history of parathyroidectomy 10 years prior but developed recurrent hyperparathyroidism with symptoms of pruritus and cough with sputum during a period of routine *** imaging revealed multiple nodules in both lungs,with the largest measuring approximately 1.35 *** histopathology confirmed the presence of hyperplastic parathyroid glands within the pulmonary *** tumor resection surgery via videoassisted thoracic surgery with wedge resection,the patient was discharged in stable condition and in follow-up her symptoms showed *** This article describes hyperparathyroidism presenting as pulmonary nodules in a patient undergoing postparathyroidectomy Hd,highlighting diagnostic challenges and a positive outcome from tumor resection surgery.
