Introduction:Poliomyelitis is a highly contagious,seasonal viral disease caused by any of three poliovirus(PV)serotypes(types 1,2,or 3).Oral poliovirus vaccine(OPV)on rare occasions causes vaccineassociated paralytic poliomyelitis(VAPP)in recipients of OPV and close contacts of recently vaccinated *** study describes the epidemiology of VAPP when an all OPV schedule was used in the Expanded Program on Immunization(EPI).Methods:VAPP cases were identified using standardized diagnostic criteria from data reported by 8 provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)to the National Acute Flaccid Paralysis(AFP)Surveillance System in an 18-month period between October 2012 and March ***:During this period,28 VAPP cases were *** the number of births as a denominator,the estimated incidence of VAPP was 2.47 cases per million *** the number of OPV doses administered through routine immunization,the VAPP incidence was 0.55 cases per million *** vaccine-recipient VAPP cases,22(85%)were associated with the first dose of OPV;3 were associated with the second OPV *** relative risk of VAPP following the first dose compared with the second dose was *** and Implications for Public Health Practice:The per-dose and per-child incidences of VAPP were consistent with incidence estimates by the World Health Organization(WHO).The vast majority(85%)of VAPP in China was associated with the first dose of OPV in an all-OPV *** inactivated polio vaccine(IPV)is known to prevent VAPP from subsequent doses of OPV in immunocompetent children,this association provided strong evidence for using an IPV-first,sequential IPVOPV polio vaccination schedule in China during the globally-synchronized cessation of type 2 OPV and introduction of IPV in 2016.

An investigation on patient dose in screen-film diagnostic radiology in Lhasa City,Xizang Autonomous Region,China

This study aimed to investigate patient dose in diagnostic screen-film radiographic examinations in the city of Lhasa,*** out of the twenty-six hospitals registered with the Lhasa Health Bureau were included in the *** entrance surface air Kerma(ESAK)of seven conventional screen-film radiology X-ray equipment in these hospitals was measured with a QA dosimeter in September *** X-ray examinations were divided into three categories:PA(posterior-anterior)chest,upper/lower limb,and AP(anterior-posterior)lumbar *** each category,ESAKs were calculated and *** mean ESAK was 0.6 mGy for PA chest,0.3 mGy for upper/lower limb,and 1.8 mGy for AP lumbar *** addition,the mean ESAK value recorded for PA chest X-ray examinations exceeded the corresponding value recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency(0.4 mGy).

Pneumoconiosis is a systemic occupational disease that commonly manifests as diffuse fibrosis of the lungs caused by long-term inhalation of silica dust in the production process. The development of pneumoconiosis is a chronic and progressive process;once it occurs, it is irreversible, and gradually develops into lung injury and respiratory failure, and can cause death regardless of exposure to dust. The incidence of pneumoconiosis is the highest in China and the direct and indirect economic loss as a result of pneumoconiosis is approximately 9 billion yuan per year.

Today, tuberculosis (TB) remains a global public health threat associated with significantly high rates of morbidity and mortality. The World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Report 2018[1] has reported that in 2017, 10.0 million people across the world had developed TB diseases that resulted in an estimated 1.6 million deaths, and 889, 000 people developed TB in China that led to 39, 000 TB-related deaths. Therefore, rapid and accurate detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is important for initiating early treatment and reducing mortality. Traditional diagnostic methods for pulmonary TB incorporate chest radiography and sputum smear microscopy;however, several cases of tuberculosis go undiagnosed because of the low sensitivity of smear microscopy[2].

Prevalence and Years of Life Lost due to Disability from Dental Caries among Children and Adolescents in Western China,1990-2015

Objective To analyze the prevalence and years lived with disability （YLD） from dental caries among children and adolescents and the time trends over the past two decades in Sichuan province, the largest province in west China. Methods Based on the Global Burden of disease Study 2015 （GBD2015）, which systematically assessed the epidemiological characteristics of major diseases and their transitions by country and region from 1990 to 2015, we extracted the estimated results for China. We then used the Bayesian meta-regression method to estimate the sex- and age-specific prevalences and YLDs from dental caries among children and adolescents under 15 years old in Sichuan province and compared them with global and national indicators for the same period. Results In 2015, there were almost 6 million cases of dental caries in children and adolescents （aged 〈 15 years） in Sichuan province, accounting for 6% of the total cases in China. For children under 5 years, the prevalence of deciduous caries was 55.9%, and the YLDs value was 10.8 per 100,000, while it was 24.3% and 5.1 per 100,000 respectively among 5- to 14-year-olds; for those aged 5 to 14 years, the prevalence of permanent caries was 21.5%, and the YLDs value was 11.5 per 100,000. From 1990 to 2015, the prevalence of dental caries for children under 5 years increased substantially, by 16.2%, and the YLDs increased by 8.7%. Among those aged 5 to 14 years, the prevalence increased and the YLDs decreased. Conclusion Dental caries remains a huge health burden in Western China. In contrast to the global and national data, the trend has increased rapidly over the past 25 years in this region. This work provides suggestions for the prevention and control for oral health in China with the policy of two-child.

Citrus is the typical mycorrhizal fruit tree species establishing symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. However, arbuscule development and senescence in colonized citrus roots, especially in response to drought stress, remain unclear, which is mainly due to the difficulty in clearing and staining lignified roots with the conventional method. Here, we improved the observation of colonized roots of citrus plants with the sectioning method, which enabled the clear observation of AM fungal structures. Furthermore, we investigated the effects of one week of drought stress on arbuscule development and senescence with the sectioning method. Microscopy observations indicated that drought stress significantly decreased mycorrhizal colonization (F%and M%) although it did not affect plant growth performance. Fluorescence probes (WGA 488 and/or Nile red) revealed that drought stress inhibited arbuscule development by increasing the percentage of arbuscules at the early stage and decreasing the percentages of arbuscules at the midterm and mature stages. Meanwhile, drought stress accelerated arbuscule senescence, which was characterized by the increased accumulation of neutral lipids. Overall, the sectioning method developed in this study enables the in-depth investigation of arbuscule status, and drought stress can inhibit arbuscule development but accelerate arbuscule senescence in the colonized roots of citrus plants. This study paves the way to elaborately dissecting the arbuscule dynamics in the roots of fruit tree species in response to diverse abiotic stresses.

Objective:Nucleotide excision repair(NER)plays a vital role in maintaining genome stability,and the effect of NER gene polymorphisms on hepatoblastoma susceptibility is still under *** study aimed to evaluate the relationship between NER gene polymorphisms and the risk of hepatoblastoma in Eastern Chinese Han ***:In this five-center case-control study,we enrolled 966 subjects from East China(193 hepatoblastoma patients and 773 healthy controls).The TaqMan method was used to genotype 19 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)in NER pathway genes,including ERCC1,XPA,XPC,XPD,XPF,and ***,multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed,and odds ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)were utilized to assess the strength of ***:Three SNPs were related to hepatoblastoma *** rs2229090 and XPD rs3810366 significantly contributed to hepatoblastoma risk according to the dominant model(adjusted OR=1.49,95%CI=1.07−2.08,P=0.019;adjusted OR=1.66,95%CI=1.12−2.45,P=0.012,respectively).However,XPD rs238406 conferred a significantly decreased risk of hepatoblastoma under the dominant model(adjusted OR=0.68,95%CI=0.49−0.95;P=0.024).Stratified analysis demonstrated that these significant associations were more prominent in certain ***,there was evidence of functional implications of these significant SNPs suggested by online expression quantitative trait loci(eQTLs)and splicing quantitative trait loci(sQTLs)***:In summary,NER pathway gene polymorphisms(XPC rs2229090,XPD rs3810366,and XPD rs238406)are significantly associated with hepatoblastoma risk,and further research is required to verify these findings.
