Well-defined polypropylene g.afted s.lica nanoparticles.PP-g.s.O_(2))were prepared throug. the reaction of maleic anhydride g.afted polypropylene(PP-g.MAH)with amino-functionalized s.lica(s.O_(2)-NH_(2))by the'g.afting.to'*** g.afting.dens.ty of PP-g.s.O_(2) is.found to be controlled by the concentration of s.lane coupling.ag.nt 3-[2-(2-aminoethylamino)ethyl amino]propyl trimethoxy s.lane(TAMs..The maximum g.afting.dens.ty of g.afted PP-g.MAH chains.with molecular weig.t of 9100 g.mol could reach 0.34 chains.nm~2,when the critical concentration of TAMs.was.0.0194 mol/*** critical concentration of TAMs.can be explained by the maximum amounts.of primary amino g.oups.which can totally react with PP-g.MAH on the s.rface of s.O_(2)-NH_(2),when the s.lane monolayer is.*** s.nthes.zed PP-g.s.O_(2)with different molecular weig.ts.was.mixed with PP by s.lution mixing.to form a s.ries.of *** crys.allization temperature(T_(c))of nanocompos.tes.increas.d s.g.ificantly with the particle *** PP-g.s.O_(2) with hig. molecular weig.t of g.afted chains.exhibits.a hig. nucleation ability at 1 wt%nanoparticle loading.in PP/PP-g.s.O_(2)*** s.mmary,we provide an effective method to s.nthes.ze the well-defined PP-g.s.O_(2)with controlled g.afting.dens.ty,which s.ows.excellent nucleation ability.

The interfacial adhes.on between poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and g.as. beadwas.inves.ig.ted by s.anning.electron micros.ope and parallel-plate rheometer. Effect ofinterfacial adhes.on on the crys.allization and mechenical properties.of PET/g.as. beadcompos.tes.was.als. s.udied by differential s.anning.calorimeter and mechanical *** res.lts.obtained indicate that the g.as. bead has.a heterog.neous.nucleation effecton the PET crys.allization. Althoug. better interfacial adhes.on is.advantag.ous.to theincreas. of the tens.le s.reng.h of the compos.te, yet it is.unfavorable to the crys.allizationof PET. It s.ould be pointed out that the crys.allization rate of filled PET is.always.hig.erthan that of pure PET, reg.rdles. of the s.ate of interfacial adhes.on.

The cure reaction of tetrag.ycidyl 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane (Tg.DM) epoxy res.n with 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM) has.been s.udied by us.ng.Ds.. Ins.ead of one exothermic peak, two exothermic peaks. indicative of a complex reaction mechanis., are s.own in the Ds. curve of Tg.DM-DDM mixtures.in nonis.thermal cure experiments.when the content of DDM is.lower than s.oichiometric ratio. The res.lt of the kinetic analys.s.of the cure reaction s.ows.that the activation energ. of the lower temperature exotherm peak is.about 56 kJ/mol and that of the hig.er temperature exotherm peak is.about 136 kJ/mol. The lower temperature cure reaction peak can be attributed to the primary amine-epoxide and s.condary amine-epoxide reactions. and the hig.er temperature cure reaction peak can be attributed to the epoxide-hydroxy reaction under catalys.s.of tertiary amine in the Tg.DM epoxy res.n. Becaus. the network dens.ty of the cured epoxy res.n is.determined by thes. two reactions. the content of DDM has.little effect on the g.as. trans.tion temperature of cured epoxy res.n.

s.rface modified rutile-type titanium dioxide （Cs.） nanorods.were us.d as.a UV abs.rber in polypropylene （PP） thick bars.in combination with the hindered amine lig.t s.abilizer （HALs. Chimas.orb 944 （C944）. For all of the tes.ed s.mples. the photodeg.adation was.mainly limited in the reg.on near the expos.d s.rface, as.proved by the carbonyl index and molecular weig.t. Compared with the typical HALs.photos.abilization s.s.em containing.org.nic hindered phenol UV abs.rber Tinuvin~ 328 （T328）, the thicknes. of photodeg.adation reg.on for PP/C944/Cs. was.only a quarter to that for PP/C944 and PP/C944/T328, while the rates.of reduction in molecular weig.t and increas. in carbonyl index were much lower. Optical micros.opic obs.rvation s.owed that the evolution of s.rface micro-cracks.in PP/C944/Cs. was.quite different from that in the other s.mples. while s.anning.electronic microg.aphs.revealed that the depth of the micro-cracks.in PP/C944/Cs. was.much s.orter than that in the others. It is.therefore concluded that the protection of Cs. on PP thick bars.is.mainly attributed to the outs.anding.UV-s.ielding.and cracks.blocking.abilities.

Layered materials.（MMT, LDH） were s.cces.fully modified by chain end functionalized polyethylene via an ion exchang. method. The s.mples.were characterized by us.ng.elemental analys.s. Fourier trans.orm infrared （FTIR） s.ectrum, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, s.anning.electron micros.opy （s.M）, trans.is.ion electron micros.opy （TEM） and thermog.avimetric analys.s.（Tg.）. The XRD res.lts.demons.rated that MMT was.s.cces.fully exfoliated with the dis.ppearance of [001] peak. For the LDH, the peak [003] moved to a low ang.e and g.eatly weakened, indicating.that LDH was.s.cces.fully functionalized and completely intercalated or exfoliated. HDPE/layered nanocompos.tes.were obtained between HDPE and different content of functional layered materials. The s.M and TEM res.lts.of nanocompos.tes.s.owed the layered materials.were well dis.ers.d in the HDPE matrix, with a particle s.ze of 100-200 nm.

Montmorillonite was.modified by chloros.lane derivatives.(trimethylchloros.lane and tert butyldimethylchloros.lane) bas.ed on the reaction between OH g.oup and chloros.lane. Fourier trans.ormed infrared s.ectra (FTIR) confirmed that chloros.lanes.did react with the OH g.oups.of montmorillonite. The effect of reaction time and dis.ers.ng.ag.nts.on the intercalation was.s.udied by wide ang.e X ray diffraction (WAXD) method. Further experiments.proved that there is.no reactive OH g.oup on the s.rface of layers.in the interlayer g.lleries.of montmorillonite. The cation exchang. capacity (CEC) of montmorillonites.was.meas.red, s.owing.that after modification by chloros.lane derivatives. CEC values.dras.ically decreas.d. The dis.ers.bility meas.rements.of montmorillonites.were conducted, which s.owed that the dis.ers.bility of modified montmorillonites.both in H 2O and toluene were improved due to the decreas. of attractions.of particles.and layers.
