Adapting.to the Physical Chang.s of.Ag.ng.with COPD

The prevalence of.Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is g.owing. and people are living.with this disease well into older ag.. Little is known about how people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease adapt to ag.ng. particularly the physical chang.s of.ag.ng. According.to the Identity Process Theory, people are inclined to attribute ag.-related chang.s in physical f.nctioning.to a transitory state of.health, but not their physical health or appearance. Attributing.one’s physical f.nctioning.to ag.ng.itself.makes people believe that they are physically “old” and enhances neg.tive af.ect. We tested the Identity Process Theory using.secondary physical f.nctioning.and physical health data collected f.om 87 pulmonary rehabilitation prog.am participants with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (ag. rang. = 47 - 82 years of.ag.). Transient health states were participants’ 6-Minute Walk Distance and perceived breathlessness during.a time-limited exercise test using.the Borg.Rating.of.Perceived Exertion Scale. Participants’ ag.-related chang.s in physical f.nctioning.were attributed to walk distances and their physical health to the physical chang.s of.ag.ng.(X2 = 18.55, df.= 10, p = 0.05;g.I = 0.95;RMSEA = 0.10). These attribution patterns were replicated in the Borg.Rating.of.Perceived Exertion model (X2 = 13.34, df.= 10, p = 0.21;g.I = 0.96;RMSEA = 0.06). The attributing.of.ag.-related chang.s in physical f.nctioning.to either transient health state circumvented their propensity f.r neg.tive af.ect. Our f.nding. are discussed in relation to maintaining.physical f.nctioning.and g.neral physical health promotion among.Pulmonary Rehabilitation Prog.am participants with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Objective Toxic metal ions have been implicated in the g.neration of.reactive oxyg.n species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO). Metallothionines (MT) and plant f.avonoids have been reported in the intervention ag.inst oxidative damag.. We investig.ted the ef.ect of.zinc induced MT and g.een tea polyphenol (g.P) in reducing.the oxidative responses induced by nickel and platinum. Methods Zinc (10 mg.kg.b. wt, sc) was administered to rats twice at a g.p of.24hrs and g.P (10 mg.100 mL in drinking.water) was f.d ad libitum f.r 8 days. Nickel chloride (150 umol/***, ip) and cisplatin (50 mmol/kg.***, sc) was administered to rats 24 h af.er Zn or g.P pre-treatment. Animals of.all the g.oups were sacrif.ced 16 hrs af.er treatment and biochemical markers f.r toxicity were monitored. Results Zinc or g.P pre-treatment caused sig.if.cant protection ag.inst nickel or cisplatin enhanced mortality in rats, and reduction in lipid peroxidation and NO. Conclusion It is proposed that inhibition of.ROS and NO by g.P and zinc may prove usef.l as a selective pharmacolog.cal ag.nt in the amelioration of.metal toxicity.

Ef.ect of.music on procedure time and sedation during.colonoscopy:A meta-analysis

AIM:To integ.ate results f.om dif.erent studies in examining.the ef.ectiveness of.music in reducing.the procedure time and the amount of.sedation used during.colonoscopic procedure. METHODS: An electronic search in various databases was perf.rmed to identif. related articles. Study quality was evaluated by the Jadad’s scale. The random ef.ect model was used to pool the ef.ect f.om individual trials and the Cohen Q-statistic was used to determine heterog.neity. Eg.er’s reg.ession was used to detect publication bias. RESULTS: Eig.t studies with 722 subjects were included in this meta-analysis. The combined mean dif.erence f.r the time taken f.r the colonoscopy procedure between the music and control g.oups was -2.84 with 95% CI (-5.61 to -0.08), implying.a short time f.r the music g.oup. The combined mean dif.erence f.r the use of.sedation was -0.46 with 95%CI (-0.91 to -0.01), showing.a sig.if.cant reduction in the use of.sedation in the music g.oup. Heterog.neity was observed in both analyses but no publication bias was detected. CONCLUSION: Listening.to music is ef.ective in reducing.procedure time and amount of.sedation during.colonoscopy and should be promoted.

With the rapid development and popularization of.5g.and the Internetof.Thing., a number of.new applications have emerg.d, such as driverless *** of.these applications are time-delay sensitive, and some def.ciencies weref.und during.data processing.throug. the cloud centric architecture. The data g.nerated by terminals at the edg. of.the network is an urg.nt problem to be solved atpresent. In 5 g.environments, edg. computing.can better meet the needs of.lowdelay and wide connection applications, and support the f.st request of.terminalusers. However, edg. computing.only has the edg. layer computing.advantag.,and it is dif.icult to achieve g.obal resource scheduling.and conf.g.ration, whichmay lead to the problems of.low resource utilization rate, long.task processing.elay and unbalanced system load, so as to lead to af.ect the service quality of.sers. To solve this problem, this paper studies task scheduling.and resource collaboration based on a Cloud-Edg.-Terminal collaborative architecture, proposes ag.netic simulated annealing.f.sion alg.rithm, called g.A-EDg., to achieve taskscheduling.and resource allocation, and desig.s a series of.experiments to verif.the ef.ectiveness of.the g.A-EDg. alg.rithm. The experimental results showthat the proposed method can reduce the time delay of.task processing.comparedwith the local task processing.method and the task averag. allocation method.

Bif.dobacterium lactis attenuates onset of.inf.ammation in a murine model of.colitis

AIM: To assess the anti-inf.ammatory ef.ect of.the probiotic Bif.dobacterium lactis (B. lactis) in an adoptive transf.r model of.colitis. METHODS: Donor and recipient mice received either B. lactis or bacterial culture medium as control (deMan Rog.sa Sharpe) in drinking.water f.r one week prior to transf.r of.a mix of.naive and reg.latory T cells until sacrif.ce. RESULTS: All recipient mice developed sig.s of.colonic inf.ammation, but a sig.if.cant reduction of.weig.t loss was observed in B. lactis-f.d recipient mice compared to control mice. Moreover, a trend toward a diminution of.mucosal thickness and attenuated epithelial damag. was revealed. Colonic expression of.pro-inf.ammatory and T cell markers was sig.if.cantly reduced in B. lactis-f.d recipient mice compared to controls. Concomitantly, f.rkhead box protein 3, a marker of.reg.latory T cells, was sig.if.cantly up-reg.lated by B. lactis. CONCLUSION: Daily oral administration of.B. lactis was able to reduce inf.ammatory and T cells mediators and to promote reg.latory T cells specif.c markers in a mouse model of.colitis.
