Lymnaeid snails are key intermediate hosts for the development and survival of Fasciola spp.,the causative agent of Fascioliasis which are economically important parasites infecting humans and livestock *** current control method for treating Fascioliasis is heavily reliant on anthelmintic drugs,particularly Triclabendazole(TCBZ)which has resulted in drug-resistant parasites and poses significant risk as there are no long-term efficacious alternatives *** control measures at the farm level could include both parasite and snail control will play an important role in Fasciola *** and reduce the reliance on anthelmintic *** of such sustainable control measures requires effective identification of snails on the property however Lymnaeid snails are small and difficult to physically *** identification using an environmental DNA approach is a recent approach in which physically locating snails are not *** tomentosa,is the primary intermediate snail host for *** transmission in South-East Australia and we present an in-field loop-mediated isothermal amplification and water filtering method for the detection of *** eDNA from water samples to improve current surveillance *** methodology is highly sensitive with a detection limit of 5×10^(−6)ng/μL,detected in<20 minutes,with cumulative sample preparation and amplification time under 1 *** proposed workflow could assist in monitoring areas to determine the risk of Fascioliasis infection and implement strategies to manage snail populations to ultimately reduce the risk of infection for humans and livestock.

Optofluidic transport and assembly of nanoparticles using an all-dielectric quasi-BIC metasurface

Manipulating fluids by light at the micro/nanoscale has been a long-sought-after goal for lab-on-a-chip *** heating has been demonstrated to control microfluidic dynamics due to the enhanced and confined light absorption from the intrinsic losses of ***,the counterpart of metals,has been used to avoid undesired thermal effects due to its negligible light ***,we report an innovative optofluidic system that leverages a quasi-BIC-driven all-dielectric metasurface to achieve subwavelength scale control of temperature and fluid *** experiments show that suspended particles down to 200 nanometers can be rapidly aggregated to the center of the illuminated metasurface with a velocity of tens of micrometers per second,and up to millimeter-scale particle transport is *** strong electromagnetic field enhancement of the quasi-BIC resonance increases the flow velocity up to three times compared with the off-resonant situation by tuning the wavelength within several nanometers *** also experimentally investigate the dynamics of particle aggregation with respect to laser wavelength and power.A physical model is presented and simulated to elucidate the phenomena and surfactants are added to the nanoparticle colloid to validate the *** study demonstrates the application of the recently emerged all-dielectric thermonanophotonics in dealing with functional liquids and opens new frontiers in harnessing non-plasmonic nanophotonics to manipulate microfluidic ***,the synergistic effects of optofluidics and high-Q all-dielectric nanostructures hold enormous potential in high-sensitivity biosensing applications.

Pervasive Attentive Neural Network for Intelligent Image Classification Based on N-CDE’s

The utilization of visual attention enhances the performance of image classification *** attentionbased models have demonstrated notable performance,but many of these models exhibit reduced accuracy when confronted with inter-class and intra-class similarities and ***-Controlled Differential Equations(N-CDE’s)and Neural Ordinary Differential Equations(NODE’s)are extensively utilized within this ***’s possesses the capacity to effectively illustrate both inter-class and intra-class similarities and differences with enhanced *** this end,an attentive neural network has been proposed to generate attention maps,which uses two different types of N-CDE’s,one for adopting hidden layers and the other to generate attention *** distinct attention techniques are implemented including time-wise attention,also referred to as bottom N-CDE’s;and element-wise attention,called topN-CDE’***,a trainingmethodology is proposed to guarantee that the training problem is sufficiently *** classification tasks including fine-grained visual classification andmulti-label classification,are utilized to evaluate the *** proposedmethodology is employed on five publicly available datasets,including CUB-200-2011,ImageNet-1K,PASCAL VOC 2007,PASCAL VOC 2012,and MS *** obtained visualizations have demonstrated that N-CDE’s are better appropriate for attention-based activities in comparison to conventional NODE’s.

Resignation of officials as independent directors and firm performance

In 2013,the Chinese government implemented Rule No.18,which suspended the directorships of incumbent government officials and precluded those who retired within the past three years from serving as independent directors for listed *** surprise implementation of Rule No.18 triggered a wave of resignations among official independent directors(OIDs).The event provided a unique opportunity to examine the impacts of the political connections of board members on firm *** applied a difference-in-difference technique to empirically investigate the effect of OID resignations on firm performance from the perspectives of resource dependence theory and social capital *** results indicate that the resignation of OIDs had a significantly negative effect on firm performance,as measured by Tobin's 0 and firm *** also confirmed the importance of independent directors'political connection on firm performance,as discovered in prior ***,this influence varied across OIDs'heterogeneity,external environment and firm *** results indicate that political connections may not be necessary channels for firms to achieve success.

High ambient temperatures are a critical challenge in the poultry industry which is a key producer of the animal-based *** evaluate heat stress levels,various parameters have been used,including growth rates,blood metabolites,and *** most recent advances have explored expression profiling of genes that may play vital roles under stress.A high ambient temperature adversely affects nutrient uptake and is known to modulate the expression of genes encoding for sodium-dependent glucose transporters,glucose transporters,excitatory amino acid transporters,and fatty acidbinding proteins which are responsible for the absorption of macronutrients in the *** defensive activities are stimulated to protect the cell of different tissues from the heat-generated stress,including expression of early stress response genes coding for heat shock protein(HSP),c-FOS like protein,brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),and neuronal nitric oxide synthase(nNOS);antioxidant enzyme genes such as superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase(NOX4);and immune-related genes such as cytokines and toll-like receptors(TLRs).The potential role of HSPs in protecting the cell from stress and their presence in several tissues make them suitable markers to be evaluated under heat *** and c-FOS genes expressed in the hypothalamus help cells to adapt to an adverse *** causes damage to the cell by generating reactive oxygen species(ROS).The NOX4 gene is the inducer of ROS under heat stress,which is in turns controlled by antioxidant enzymes such as SOD and *** are responsible for protecting against pathogenic attacks arising from enhanced membrane permeability,and cytokines help in controlling the pathogen and maintaining ***,the evaluation of nutrient transporters and defense mechanisms using the latest molecular biology tools has made it possible to shed light on the complex cellular mechan

Only in recent years, the draft sequences for several agricultural animals have been assembled. Assembling an individual animal＇s entire genome sequence or specific region（s） of interest is increasingly important for agricultura researchers to perform genetic comparisons between animals with different performance. We review the current status for several sequenced agricultural species and suggest that next generation sequencing （NGS） technology with decreased sequencing cost and increased speed of sequencing can benefit agricultural researchers. By taking advantage of advanced NGS technologies, genes and chromosomal regions that are more labile to the influence of environmental factors could be pinpointed. A more long term goal would be addressing the question of how animals respond at the molecular and cellular levels to different environmental models （e.g. nutrition）. Upon revealing important genes and gene-environment interactions, the rate of genetic improvement can also be accelerated. It is clear that NGS technologies will be able to assist animal scientists to efficiently raise animals and to better prevent infectious diseases so that overall costs of animal production can be decreased.

The sustainable use of renewable resources has become an important issue worldwide in the move towards a less fossil-fuel-intensive *** method for fulfilling this aim is to increase the share of renewable energy and materials to substitute fossil fuels and to become fully independent from fossil fuels over the ***, the environmental sustainability of this endeavor has been *** addition,economic and social sustainability issues are also much debated topics in this particular *** resources are often thought to contribute partially to achieving a so-called ＂carbon-neutral society＂.In this review, we discuss sustainability issues of using forest *** present several sustainability indicators for ecological,economic and social dimensions and discuss the issues in applying them in sustainability impact assessments（SIAs）.We also present a number of tools and methods previously used in conducting *** approach our study from the perspective of the Finnish forestry; in addition, various aspects regarding the application of SIAs in a broader context are also *** of the key conclusions of the study is that although sufficient data are available to measure many indicators accurately, the impacts may be very difficult to assess（*** of greenhouse gases on biodiversity） for conducting a holistic ***, some indicators, such as ＂biodiversity＂, are difficult to quantify in the first ***, a mix of different methods, such as Multi-criteria Assessment, Life-cycle Assessment or Cost-Benefit Analysis, as well as different approaches（*** and strong/weak sustainability） are needed in aggregating the results of the *** are important in supporting and improving the acceptability of decision-making, but a certain degree of uncertainty will always have to be tolerated.

Chinese employees＇ leadership preferences and the relationship with power distance orientation and core self-evaluation

Informed by implicit leadership theories, this study investigates contemporary Chinese employees＇ preferences for paternalistic leadership （including three components： moral leadership, benevolent leadership and authoritarian leadership） and transformational leadership. It further examines the relationship between power distance orientation, core self-evaluation （CSE） and leadership preferences. The study finds that contemporary Chinese employees most prefer moral leadership, but are also highly receptive to transformational leadership. They prefer authoritarian leadership least. Moreover, preferences for authoritarian leadership are predicated on followers＇ power distance orientation. However, the opposite is true for moral leadership. CSE is positively related to followers＇ preference for authoritarian leadership, benevolent leadership and transformational leadership, but not except for moral leadership. A positive interaction effect is found between power distance orientation and CSE with regard to authoritarian leadership preference. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.
