Herbicide promotes the conjugative transfer of multi-resistance genes by facilitating cellular contact and plasmid transfer

The global dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs),especially via plasmid-mediated horizontal transfer,is becoming a pervasive health *** our previous study found that herbicides can accelerate the horizontal gene transfer(HGT)of ARGs in soil bacteria,the underlying mechanisms by which herbicides promote the HGT of ARGs across and within bacterial genera are still ***,the underlying mechanism associ-ated with herbicide-promoted HGT was analyzed by detecting intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)production,extracellular polymeric substance composition,cell membrane integrity and proton motive force combined with genome-wide RNA *** to herbicides induced a series of the above bacterial responses to promote HGT except for the ROS response,including compact cell-to-cell contact by enhancing pilus-encoded gene expression and decreasing cell surface charge,increasing cell membrane permeability,and enhancing the proton motive force,providing additional power for DNA *** study provides a mechanistic understanding of the risk of bacterial resistance spread promoted by herbicides,which elucidates a new perspective on nonantibiotic agrochemical acceleration of the HGT of ARGs.

Borocarbonitride(BCN) materials are newly developed metal-free catalytic materials exhibiting high selectivity in oxidative dehydrogenation(ODH) of alkanes. However, the in-depth understandings on the role of boron(B) dopants and the intrinsic activities of –C=O and –B–OH still remain ***, we report a series of BCN materials with regulable B content and surface oxygen functional groups via self-assembly and pyrolysis of guanine and boric acid. We found that the B/C ratio is the key parameter to determine the activity of ODH and product distribution. Among them, the high ethylbenzene conversion(~57%) and styrene selectivity(~83%) are achieved in ODH for B_(1)CN. The styrene selectivity can be improved by increasing of B/C ratio and this value reaches near 100% for B_*** characterizations and kinetic measurements indicate that –C=O and –B–OH dual sites on BCN are real active sites of ODH reaction. The intrinsic activity of –C=O(5.556 × 10^(-4)s^(-1)) is found to be 23.7 times higher than –B–OH(0.234 × 10^(-4)s^(-1)) site. More importantly, we reveal that the deep oxidation to undesirable CO_(2) occurs on –C=O rather than –B–OH site, and B dopant in BCN materials can reduce the nucleophilicity of –C=O site to eliminate the CO_(2) emission. Overall, the present work provides a new insight on the structure–function relationship of the BCN catalytic systems.

One of the most invasive species worldwide, Solenopsis invicta Buren, has been described in China since 2003. Recent studies have suggested that China populations are the result of introductions from the USA; however, detailed molecular studies need to be performed in order to understand the expansion and potential multiple introductions from other countries into China. As there were populations of red imported fire ant, S. invicta in different areas and with different methods of introduction, mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase Ⅰ gene was used as a marker from 12 populations in four cities in fujian Province, China, to determine the relationship of invasion among these populations. The three most common haplotypes previously describe in invasive populations of S. invicta： H5, H22 and H36, were found in fujian. However, frequencies in each city were different. For instance, three populations from Longyan city which invaded with waste plastics, shared haplotype H5. Populations from Xiamen city and Jinjiang city which dispersed with nursery stock, sward and scrap leather, shared haplotype H22. The population from Nanyan village of Xinluo district, Longyan city, bore haplotype H36. Mitochondrial data reveals that the invasion history of S. invicta in fujian Province is complex, including multiple invasions probably from other provinces within China. Security measures to prevent S. invicta spreading within China are as important as from overseas.

Genetic Analysis and Mapping of an Enclosed Panicle Mutant Locus esp1 in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

A mutant was isolated from the M2 of 60Co-T ray mutagenized male-fertility restorer line Zao-R974 in rice. The mutant showed pleiotropic phenotypes including dwarfism, delayed heading time, short and partially enclosed panicles, short uppermost internode, decreased grain and secondary branch numbers per panicle, and partially degenerated spikelets. The mutant was named as espl （enclosed shorter panicle 1）. Genetic analysis indicated that the mutant phenotype was controlled by a recessive locus. Spraying exogenous GA~ did not rescue the panicle enclosure. Using an F2 and a BC, population of the cross between espl and a japonica cultivar Nipponbare, we mapped the ESP1 locus to a region of-260 kb on chromosome 11. This result provides a basis for further map-based cloning of the ESP1 locus.

We demonstrate light focusing through scattering media by introducing particle swarm optimization for modulat- ing the phase wavefront. Light refocusing is simulated numerically based on the angular spectrum method and the circular Gaussian distribution model of the scattering media. Experimentally, a spatial light modulator is used to control the phase of incident light, so as to make the scattered light converge to a focus. The influence of divided segments of input light and the effect of the number of iterations on light intensity enhancement are investigated. Simulation results are found to be in good agreement with the theoretical analysis for light refocusing.

A new reversibly switchable fluorescent protein（RSFP）, namely Dreiklang, exhibits prominent feature that the wavelengths for switching and fluorescence are decoupled due to its great different structures between bright and dark states. This feature might also induce some nonlinear optic（NLO） properties changing as switching between two states, which might promote new method of biological science. We employ the QM/MM method to simulate the structures of different states, and study their second harmonic generation（SHG） and two-photon absorption（TPA） properties. And we found different states of Dreiklang have different SHG and TPA responses. The SHG and TPA properties of Dreiklang are correlated to particularly geometrical structures of different states, especially the centrosymmetric or nocentrosymmetric π-stacking structures which are formed by chromophore and beside residue Tyr203, so the SHG and TPA responses could be changed as the light induces switching among different states of Dreiklang. This work would prospectively guide the application of Dreiklang on the NLO technology, and help the development of new RSFP with special NLO function.
