Epidemiological features of seasonal influenza transmission among 11 climate zones in Chinese mainland

Background Previous studies provided some evidence of meteorological factors influence seasonal influenza transmission patterns varying across regions and latitudes. However, research on seasonal influenza activities based on climate zones are still in lack. This study aims to utilize the ecological-based K?ppen Geiger climate zones classification system to compare the spatial and temporal epidemiological characteristics of seasonal influenza in Chinese mainland and assess the feasibility of developing an early warning system.Methods Weekly influenza cases number from 2014 to 2019 at the county and city level were sourced from China National Notifiable Infectious Disease Report Information System. Epidemic temporal indices, time series seasonality decomposition, spatial modelling theories including Moran’sI and local indicators of spatial association were applied to identify the spatial and temporal patterns of influenza transmission.Results All climate zones had peaks in Winter-Spring season. Arid, desert, cold (BWk) showed up the first peak. Only Tropical, savannah (Aw) and Temperate, dry winter with hot summer (Cwa) zones had unique summer peak. Temperate, no dry season and hot summer (Cfa) zone had highest average incidence rate (IR) at 1.047/100,000. The Global Moran’sI showed that average IR had significant clustered trend (z = 53.69,P < 0.001), with local Moran’sI identified high-high cluster in Cfa and Cwa. IR differed among three age groups between climate zones (0-14 years old:F = 26.80,P < 0.001; 15-64 years old:F = 25.04,P < 0.001; Above 65 years old:F = 5.27,P < 0.001). Age group 0-14 years had highest average IR in Cwa and Cfa (IR= 6.23 and 6.21) with unique dual peaks in winter and spring season showed by seasonality decomposition.Conclusions Seasonal influenza exhibited distinct spatial and temporal patterns in different climate zones. Seasonal influenza primarily emerged in BWk, subsequently in Cfa and Cwa. Cfa, Cwa and BSk pose high risk for seasonal influenza epidemics. The research finds will

Implication of Reported Viral Hepatitis Incidence Rate Change in Hubei Province, China, between 2004-2010

This study examined the change of reported incidence rate for viral hepatitis in Hubei province, China, between 2004 to 2010 to provide scientific evidence for viral hepatitis control. Reported viral hepatitis infection cases were queried from Centre for Disease Control of Hubei Province, China. The incidence of viral hepatitis A decreased steadily across the study period. Viral hepatitis B composed 85% of the viral hepatitis cases. When reported incidence rates for chronic hepatitis B increased, the rates of acute and unclassified cases dropped from 2005 to 2010. The reported viral hepatitis B incidence rate for males was around 1.5-2 times higher than for females. The average annual percentage change of reported viral hepatitis B incidence rates was 4%. The same index for viral hepatitis C was 28%. The reported viral hepatitis B incidence rate of people under 20 years old declined over the period. This decrease was mainly attributed to the recent implementation of vaccination plan. Reported incidence rate of viral hepatitis E also rose in those years. Having a better understanding on reported incidence rates of the present surveillance system is important for developing strategies for further prevention of viral hepatitis. In addition, the data showed that a surveillance system that differentiates new and former infected cases will be more effective in providing evidence for disease control.

中西方国家政府绩效管理在宏观环境、制度基础、功能定位等方面存在着诸多差异,政府绩效管理的价值定位、指标体系、实施机制等要素也不尽相同。我国各地政府在实施绩效管理的实践中,借鉴西方绩效管理的经验,又不单纯停留在制度移植与照搬层面,而是着眼于我国经济社会发展、人文环境、政府改革现状等实际,立足比较、反思与超越的眼界,建设体现中国国情的中国式绩效管理模式,以积极推进政府管理改革事业。基于政府绩效管理中西方之间经验的比较,分析中国特色的政府绩效管理的实质和理论价值,可以发现这是一种新模式,即创效式绩效管理模式,这一模式涵括的体制、机制、功能、辅助性创效等内在结构是完善的,其未来发展路径还有待深入探讨。

The increasing global demand for food production,often causing excessive use of chemical fertilizers,has led to the deterioration of soil health.Immediate action is required to restore soil health in a sustainable manner.This review advocates switching to use of organic matter(manure and compost)that contains vital nutrients for plant growth and helps restore soil health.Humic substances(HSs),derived from degraded plant remains and found ubiquitously in nature,are an important source of organic matter.The application of HSs to soil enhances essential nutrient supply and assimilation of atmospheric CO_(2)due to increasing biomass yield.Promoting HS application globally can help lower atmospheric CO_(2)concentrations and create a sustainable agricultural practice.However,the process of humification and the molecular structure of HSs remain poorly understood subjects in soil science.Therefore,it is imperative to understand the mechanisms underlying various roles of HSs in agroecosystems.This review offers an insight into the various structural and functional aspects of HSs,particularly fulvic acid and humic acid.The dynamic and interactive nature of HSs creates a framework for sustainable agriculture.

Analyzing floor-stair merging flow based on experiments and simulation

In most situations,staircase is the only egress to evacuate from high-rise buildings.The merging flow on the stair landing has a great influence on the evacuation efficiency.In this paper,we develop an improved cellular automaton model to describe the merging behavior,and the model is validated by a series of real experiments.It is found that the flow rate of simulation results is similar to the drills,which means that the improved model is reasonable and can be used to describe the merging behavior on stairs.Furthermore,some scenarios with different door locations and building floor numbers are simulated by the model.The results show that(i)the best door location is next to the upward staircase;(ii)the total evacuation time and the building floor number are linearly related to each other;(iii)the pedestrians on upper floors have a negative influence on the evacuation flow rate.

Objective Late 2019 witnessed the outbreak and widespread transmission of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),a new,highly contagious disease caused by novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Consequently,considerable attention has been paid to the development of new diagnostic tools for the early detection of SARS-CoV-2.Methods In this study,a new poly-N-isopropylacrylamide microgel-based electrochemical sensor was explored to detect the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein(S protein)in human saliva.The microgel was composed of a copolymer of N-isopropylacrylamide and acrylic acid,and gold nanoparticles were encapsulated within the microgel through facile and economical fabrication.The electrochemical performance of the sensor was evaluated through differential pulse voltammetry.Results Under optimal experimental conditions,the linear range of the sensor was 10-13-10-9 mg/m L,whereas the detection limit was 9.55 fg/mL.Furthermore,the S protein was instilled in artificial saliva as the infected human saliva model,and the sensing platform showed satisfactory detection capability.Conclusion The sensing platform exhibited excellent specificity and sensitivity in detecting spike protein,indicating its potential application for the time-saving and inexpensive detection of SARS-CoV-2.

Research strategies in click chemistry: Measuring its cognitive contents and knowledge flow

The issue about how outstanding scientists obtained innovative findings has drawn the interest of researchers in science, policy and scientometrics. Here, we attempt to address this question by using computational methods to measure the cognitive content and concepts of K. Barry Sharpless’ research and estimate the knowledge flow of his click chemistry to other fields. First, we traced Sharpless’ conceptual journey over time through topic modeling approach, mapping and clustering of the epistemic network from distant reading his publications. We find that connectivity and functions, the core features of click chemistry, are embodied in his constant search for simplicity. What makes simplicity possible is his continuous work with collaborators on reactivity and reaction mechanisms. Moreover, citation and link analysis show that click chemistry had a much richer impact on other research fields than what is generally acknowledged, and drew solutions to significant and practical questions back to chemistry from biology.Together with these findings, we propose that the click chemistry philosophy follows the way that values nature’s principle. Chemistry has a clear-cut epistemic domain in modeling Nature. Thus, click chemistry as a concept on doing science beyond a connective technology goes across the boundaries between disciplines and impacts many other fields.

Energy landscape decomposition for cell differentiation with proliferation effect

Complex interactions between genes determine the development and differentiation of cells. We establish a landscape theory for cell differentiation with proliferation effect, in which the developmental process is modeled as a stochastic dynamical system with a birth-death term. We find that two different energy landscapes, denoted U and V, collectively contribute to the establishment of non-equilibrium steady differentiation. The potential U is known as the energy landscape leading to the steady distribution, whose metastable states stand for cell types, while V indicates the differentiation direction from pluripotent to differentiated cells. This interpretation of cell differentiation is different from the previous landscape theory without the proliferation effect. We propose feasible numerical methods and a mean-field approximation for constructing landscapes U and V. Successful applications to typical biological models demonstrate the energy landscape decomposition’s validity and reveal biological insights into the considered processes.

Endogenous peroxynitrite activated fluorescent probe for revealing anti-tuberculosis drug induced hepatotoxicity

Py^(+)razinamide (PZA), isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RFP) are all commonly used anti-tuberculosis drugs in clinical practice, and long-term medication may cause severe liver damage and toxicity. The level of peroxynitrite (ONOO^(-)) generated in liver has long been regarded as a biomarker for the prediction and measurement of drug-induced liver injury (DILI). In this article, we constructed a BODIPY-based fluorescent probe (BDP-Py^(+)) that enabled quickly and sensitively detect and image ONOO^(-) in vivo. Utilizing this probe, we demonstrated the change of ONOO^(-) content in cells and mice model of DILI induced by acetaminophen (APAP), and for the first time revealed the mechanism of liver injury induced by antituberculosis drug PZA. Moreover, BDP-Py^(+) could be applied to screen out and evaluate the hepatotoxicity of different anti-tuberculosis drugs. Comparing with the existing serum enzymes detection and H&E staining, the probe could achieve early diagnosis of DILI before solid lesions in liver via monitoring the up-regulation of ONOO^(-) levels. Collectively, this work will promote the understanding of the pathogenesis of anti-tuberculosis drug induced liver injury (ATB-DILI), and provide a powerful tool for the early diagnosis and treatment of DILI.
