Impact of Regional Economy on Internal Migration in Yangtze Delta:Based on Panel Data

Metropolitan Shanghai, in Yangtze River Delta (YRD), plays undoubtedly the leading role in the economic development in China, and becomes one of the most important population con- gregation areas. It is also widely regarded as the sixth uprising urban agglomeration in the world. Based on the quantitative stud- ies on basic socioeconomic and demographic profile on the num- ber and transition of population, this paper concluded that the migration is the key factor for population dynamics in YRD. Then, what are the regional economic factors affecting the migration of different cities in YRD? The panel data show that the different wage level is the most important factor that affects the immigra- tion in YRD. Moreover, the ratio of industry sector and service sector has an impact on attracting immigration. However, per-capital GDP and the share of foreign direct investment (FDI) to GDP have dual-side impact: not high per-capital GDP and FDI bring the high immigration.

This commentary is intended to take China as a case to discuss the mission of the family planning program under low fertility *** a brief review of the initiation of family planning program in the 1970s,as well as the reorientation of family planning program since ICPD in 1994,it will focus on the new mission for the family planning program under low fertility scenario in the twenty-first century,in particular concerning the issue of induced abortion among the *** the enormous evidence of unmet needs in reproductive health as identified in the discussion,it is argued that family planning programmes are in fact even more needed than ever before under low-fertility scenario,and should not be abandoned but strengthened,which clearly has nothing to do to call back to the program for population control in the 1970s-1980s,and nor even go back to the program for“two reorientations”in the 1990s,but to aim to serving the people to fulfill their reproductive health and reproductive rights in light of ICPD and SDGs,and to become truly integral component of“Healthy China 2030”Strategy.

Although China was one of the countries with the fastest-growing aging population in the world,limited scholarly attention has been paid to migration among older adults in *** full picture of their migration in the entire country over time remains *** study examines the spatial patterns of older interprovincial migration flows and their drivers in China over the period 1995 to 2015,using four waves of census data and intercensal population sample survey *** from eigenvector spatial filtering negative binomial regressions indicate that older adults tend to migrate away from low cost-of-living rural areas to high cost-of-living urban and rural areas,moving away from areas with extreme temperature *** location of their grandchildren is among the most important *** findings suggest that family-oriented migration is more common than amenity-led migration among retired Chinese older adults,and the cost-of-living is an indicator of economic opportunities for adult children and the quality of senior care services.

The Impacts of the Universal Two-Child policy on China's population

The universal two-child policy,implemented in October,2015,is considered to be the most significant adjustment in the history of China's family planning *** data from the 2014 national population sampling survey,this paper employs a population group-component calculation and projection method to compute the number of target population in 2016 and then to estimate the number of extra births that are likely to result from implementation of the universal two-child *** results show that the total number of extra births is estimated to be approximately 17.2 million in the years 2017-2021,with the number of extra births per year ranging from approximately 1.6 to 4.7 *** will lead to a dramatic shift in China's TFR from an estimated 1.6 in 2016 to one approaching the replacement level,and then dropping to a projected *** the universal two-child policy in place,China's total population will grow to about 1.45 billion around 2028 and then gradually begin *** labor force will become larger under the universal two-child policy than it would if the stricter birth control policy were maintained,with an estimated 50 million additional people aged 15-59 in *** implementation of China's new fertility policy,an estimated 34%of the population will be over 60 years of age in 2050,almost three percentage points lower than the level if the former fertility policy were continued.

Firms in China within the same industry but with different ownership and size have different production functions and face different emission regulations and financial conditions,thus can give very different responses to environmental *** fact has been largely ignored in most of the low-carbon development related *** an augmented Chinese input–output table in which information about firm size(large-and small and medium-sized firms)and ownership(state-,foreign-,and private-owned firms)are explicitly reported,a dynamic computable general equilibrium model is developed in this study to analyze the impact of alternative low-carbon policy designs with different regulatory coverage and financial equalization on heterogeneous *** simulation results show that,with the fully balanced regulation coverage and equalized financial system for heterogeneous firms,the total green investment accounts for 4%of GDP in 2030 for fulfilling China's commitment to reduce carbon emissions,which is the lowest among the various scenarios;about one-third of this investment is made by small and private firms;at the same time,green investment efficiency will be the highest,about 84%higher than that of the business-as-usual ***,a market-oriented and new technology-driven arrangement and mechanism for sharing emission reduction burden and allocating green investment across heterogeneous firms,especially to small and medium-sized firms,is crucial for China to achieve a more ambitious emission target in the long run.

Epigenetic mechanisms are integral to plant growth, development, and adaptation to environmental stimuli. Over the past two decades,our comprehension of these complex regulatory processes has expanded remarkably, producing a substantial body of knowledge on both locus-specific mechanisms and genome-wide regulatory patterns. studies initially grounded in the model plant Arabidopsis have been broadened to encompass a diverse array of crop species, revealing the multifaceted roles of epigenetics in physiological and agronomic traits. With recent technological advancements, epigenetic regulations at the single-cell level and at the large-scale population level are emerging as new focuses. This review offers an in-depth synthesis of the diverse epigenetic regulations, detailing the catalytic machinery and regulatory functions. It delves into the intricate interplay among various epigenetic elements and their collective influence on the modulation of crop traits. Furthermore, it examines recent breakthroughs in technologies for epigenetic modifications and their integration into strategies for crop improvement. The review underscores the transformative potential of epigenetic strategies in bolstering crop performance, advocating for the development of efficient tools to fully exploit the agricultural benefits of epigenetic insights.
