Designing multilayer diamond like carbon coatings for improved mechanical properties

New multilayer coatings were produced by incorporating alternating soft and hard DLC layers enabled by varying the bias voltage during deposition process while maintaining a constant hard-to-soft layer thickness *** coatings were deposited onto a Cr/Cr Cxgraded layer by closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering(CFUBMS).The cross-sectional analysis of the coatings showed that the multilayer coatings possess sharp interfaces between the soft and hard layers with the hard to soft layer thickness ratio(1:1.33)constant in all the *** analysis uncovered the increasing sp^(3)character of the DLC coatings as a result of decreasing ID/IGratio and increasing full width at half maximum(FWHM)values of the G band peak induced supposedly by an increase in bias voltage during hard layer *** tests showed an increase in hardness of the DLC coatings which can be correlated with the increase in the sp^(3)content of the coatings as well as decreasing sp^(2)-C cluster size,as calculated from the ID/***,the coatings exhibited excellent plastic deformation resistance and adhesion strength upon microindentation and scratch testing,*** further investigations are required to assess coating durability,the multilayer design could offer the DLC coatings with a rare opportunity to combine the high hardness with damage resistance with a constant bilayer thickness and without the need to introduce complex multilayer system.

Does Rapid Urbanization Trigger Significant Increase of Cumulative Heavy Rains in China?

Severe disasters caused by extreme precipitation events have attracted more and more attention. The relationship between climate change and extreme precipitation has become the hottest scientific frontier issue. The study of daily torrential rain observations from 659 meteorological stations in China from 1951 to 2010 shows that rapid urbanization may have triggered a significant increase in heavy rains in China. It reached following conclusions: China’s interdecadal heavy rainfall amount,rainy days and rain intensity increased significantly,with an increase of 68. 71%,60. 15% and 11. 52%,respectively. The increase in the number of stations was 84. 22%,84. 22% and 54. 48%,respectively. It showed time change of " rapid-slow-rapid increase" and spatial change of gradual increase from southeastern coast to central China,southwest,north China,and northeastern regions. Rapid urbanization factors,including secondary industry output( GDP2),urban population ratio( UP),annual average haze days( HD),are likely to be the main causes of the increase in heavy rains in China. Their explanations of the variance of heavy rainfall amount( HRA),rainy day( RD) and rain intensity( RI) in China reached 61. 54%,58. 48% and 65. 54%,respectively,of which only the explanation of variance of heavy rainfall amount,rainy days and rain intensity was as high as 25. 93%,22. 98%and 26. 64%,respectively. However,explanation of variance of climatic factors including WPSH( West Pacific Subtropical High),ENSO( El Ni1 o-Southern Oscillation) AMO( Atlantic Interdecadal Oscillation),and AAO( Antarctic Oscillation) was only 24. 30%,26. 23%,and 21. 92%,respectively. Compared with the rapid urbanization forcing factor,the impact of these climatic factors was only one third of the former. The panel data of China’s county-level total population and annual average of visibility days were significantly correlated with China’s interdecadal heavy rainfall amount,rainy days and rain intensity. Low-gain generalized PT symmetry for electromagnetic impurity-immunity via non-Hermitian doped zero-index materials

Parity-time-symmetric（PT-symmetric） metasurfaces exhibit a plethora of fascinating exceptional-point-induced phenomena, including unidirectional negative refraction and electromagnetic impurity-immunity. However,practical realization of these effects is often impeded by the high demand for gain metasurfaces（gain tangent～10～2）. Here, we propose a solution to this challenge by constructing a low-gain generalized PT-symmetric *** is achieved by transforming the high-gain metasurface into a bulky slab and then realizing it utilizing zeroindex materials doped with low-gain dopants. Within this generalized PT-symmetric system, the required gain tangent of the dopants is only ～10-1for the emergence of a coalesced exceptional point, where the remarkable property of electromagnetic impurity-immunity effect—perfect wave transmission regardless of impurities—appears. Furthermore, we observe a further decrease in demand for gain materials in an asymmetric *** validate this approach, a microwave implementation is demonstrated in full-wave simulations.

MSWNet:A visual deep machine learning method adopting transfer learning based upon ResNet 50 for municipal solid waste sorting

An intelligent and efficient methodology is needed owning to the continuous increase of global municipal solid waste(MSW).This is because the common methods of manual and semi-mechanical screenings not only consume large amount of manpower and material resources but also accelerate virus community *** the categories of MSW are diverse considering their compositions,chemical reactions,and processing procedures,etc.,resulting in low efficiencies in MSW sorting using the traditional *** machine learning can help MSW sorting becoming into a smarter and more efficient *** study for the first time applied MSWNet in MSW sorting,a ResNet-50 with transfer *** method of cyclical learning rate was taken to avoid blind finding,and tests were repeated until accidentally encountering a good *** of visualization were also considered to make the MSWNet model more transparent and *** showed transfer learning enhanced the efficiency of training time(from 741 s to 598.5 s),and improved the accuracy of recognition performance(from 88.50%to 93.50%);MSWNet showed a better performance in MSW classsification in terms of sensitivity(93.50%),precision(93.40%),F1-score(93.40%),accuracy(93.50%)and AUC(92.00%).The findings of this study can be taken as a reference for building the model MSW classification by deep learning,quantifying a suitable learning rate,and changing the data from high dimensions to two dimensions.

Design and synthesis of superior cost-effective non-fullerene acceptors(NFAs)are still big challenges for facilitating the commercialization of organic solar cells(OSCs),yet to be ***,two medium bandgap fully non-fused ring electron acceptors(NFREAs,medium bandgap,i,e.,1,3-1,8 eV),namely PTR-2Cl and PTR-4Cl are synthesized with only four steps by using intramolecular noncovalent interaction central core,structured alkyl side chain orientation linking units and flanking with different electron-withdrawing end *** them,PTR-4C1 exhibits increased average electrostatic potential(ESP)difference with polymer donor,enhanced crystallinity and compactπ-πstacking compared with the control molecule *** a result,the PTR-4Cl-based OSC achieved an impressive power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 14.72%,with a much higher open-circuit voltage(V_(OC))of 0.953 V and significantly improved fill factor(FF)of 0.758,demonstrating one of the best acceptor material in the top-performing fully NFREA-based OSCs with both high PCE and V_(OC).Notably,PTR-4Cl-based cells maintain a good T_80lifetime of its initial PCE after over 936 h under a continuous thermal annealing treatment and over1300 h T_(80)lifetime without *** work provides a cost-effective design strategy for NFREAs on obtaining high V_(OC),efficient exciton dissociation,and ordered molecular packing and thus high-efficiency and stable OSCs.

The computational modelling supported by experimental results can explain the molecular structure, vibrational assignments, reactive sites and several structural properties. In this context, the spectroscopic (FT-IR, FT-Raman and NMR) analysis, electronic properties (HOMO and LUMO energies) and molecular structure of pyrimethamine (Pyr) were investigated by density functional theory (DFT) method associated with three levels of theory viz., B3LYP, MN15 and wB97XD with 6-311++G(d,p) and def2TZVPP as basis sets, respectively in the Gaussian 16 programs. The 1H and 13C NMR chemical shifts were calculated with a gauge-independent atomic orbital (GIAO) approach by also applying the same levels of theory and basis sets. All experimental results were compared with theoretical data. Although the results revealed high degrees of correlation between the theoretical and experimental values for spectroscopic properties using the three methods. Furthermore, the atomic and natural charges, energy band gap and chemical reactivity were determined, while the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surfaces were plotted to explain the reactive nature of the title molecule.
