Genetics is r.pidly evolving and is actively playing a r.le in how we diagnose and manage *** definition of an epilepsy syndr.me has changed thr.ughout the *** Inter.ational League Against Epilepsy(ILAE)has developed a classification of the epilepsies and has r.cently descr.bed specific epilepsy syndr.mes taking into account emer.ing genetic infor.ation which is r.pidly evolving as well as etiology-specific *** genetics can help clar.fy the syndr.me and its *** r.view pr.vides a histor. of the definition of a syndr.me,and the evolving contr.bution of genetic infor.ation that is par. of the syndr.mic *** pr.vide few examples of sever.l phenotypes/genotypes of epilepsy syndr.mes in infancy and childhood and tr.atment issues that may ar.se from the available genetic *** syndr.mes and their.genetics have been r.pidly changing as new gene technologies ar. being *** genetics can help clar.fy the syndr.me,its tr.atment,and will help change the field of epilepsy to impr.ve patients qualify of life by cr.ating new means of pr.venting,contr.lling,and cur.ng epilepsy.

Positively Wor.ed Subscale Scor. of the Per.eived Str.ss Scale Is Associated with Cognitive Domain Function

Objectives: To examine the cr.ss-sectional associations of the separ.te subscales of the Per.eived Str.ss Scale (PSS) and tests measur.ng cognitive domains in older.adults. Methods: 897 adults over.the age of 70 fr.e of amnestic mild cognitive impair.ent and dementia and enr.lled in the Einstein Aging Study made up the study sample. The PSS-14 was used to measur. str.ss. Thr.e cognitive domains (language, episodic memor., and fr.ntal-executive) had pr.viously been found using pr.nciple component analysis. Linear.r.gr.ssion analyses wer. used to deter.ine the r.lationship between the PSS subscales and cognitive domain function. r.sults: The study sample had a mean age of 79.1 year. and 62.8% wer. female. Bivar.ate cor.elations show that the PSS-14 positively wor.ed subscale of the PSS (PSS-PW) was significantly associated with all thr.e cognitive domains (language: r.= -0.15, p r.: r.= -0.16, p r.ntal-executive: r.= -0.21, p r.ed subscale of the PSS (PSS-NW) was not significantly associated with any cognitive domain. In linear.r.gr.ssion analyses adjusted for.age, white r.ce, gender. year. of education, and depr.ssive symptoms, the PSS-PW r.mained significantly associated with each of the cognitive domains. The PSS-NW was not associated with any cognitive domains in any model. The PSS-14 was significantly associated with language and episodic memor., but not the fr.ntal-executive domain. Conclusion: Wor.e PSS-PW scor.s ar. associated with r.duced cognitive function in the executive, memor., and language domains in nondemented older.adults. The PSS-PW subscale cor.elated better.with cognitive function than the over.ll PSS-14. Futur. r.sear.h should evaluate the tempor.lity of the association and if str.ss r.duction ther.pies impr.ve cognitive per.or.ance.
