The concept of authenticity has received much discussion in applied linguistics and educational *** insights have been gained into how authenticity is problematised in language teaching and how to improve the situation by engaging learners with better-designed materials and *** achievements notwithstanding,empirical evidence remains insufficient to understand learners’meaning-making endeavours in real-life learning *** current study attempts to examine authenticity in additional language learning from a semiotic perspective,which may shed new light on the complex cognitive process of beginner learners’first encounter with a new language and how this process could be motivated and facilitated by teachers in a classroom *** of semiotic articulation and production of authenticity from a low-pressure Spanish classroom is analysed focussing on cultural authenticity,interactive authenticity and authenticity of behaviour and *** evidence is discussed to find how semiotic resources in combination with lived experiences may help learners’comprehension and appreciation of the target language and its *** findings reveal the relevance and value of semiotic approaches to language teaching research and provide practical implications for exposing pre-tertiary young learners to languages other than English for more diverse and extensive learning experiences.

A Comparative Analysis of Syntactic Complexity in Applied Linguistics Abstracts Written by Chinese Novice Writers and Native English Advanced Writers

The rhetorical structure of abstracts has been a widely discussed topic, as it can greatly enhance the abstract writing skills of second-language writers. This study aims to provide guidance on the syntactic features that L2 learners can employ, as well as suggest which features they should focus on in English academic writing. To achieve this, all samples were analyzed for rhetorical moves using Hyland’s five-rhetorical move model. Additionally, all sentences were evaluated for syntactic complexity, considering measures such as global, clausal and phrasal complexity. The findings reveal that expert writers exhibit a more balanced use of syntactic complexity across moves, effectively fulfilling the rhetorical objectives of abstracts. On the other hand, MA students tend to rely excessively on embedded structures and dependent clauses in an attempt to increase complexity. The implications of these findings for academic writing research, pedagogy, and assessment are thoroughly discussed.

Generative adversarial networks based motion learning towards robotic calligraphy synthesis

Robot calligraphy visually reflects the motion capability of robotic *** traditional researches mainly focus on image generation and the writing of simple calligraphic strokes or characters,this article presents a generative adversarial network(GAN)-based motion learning method for robotic calligraphy synthesis(Gan2CS)that can enhance the efficiency in writing complex calligraphy words and reproducing classic calligraphy *** key technologies in the proposed approach include:(1)adopting the GAN to learn the motion parameters from the robot writing operation;(2)converting the learnt motion data into the style font and realising the transition from static calligraphy images to dynamic writing demonstration;(3)reproducing high-precision calligraphy works by synthesising the writing motion data *** this study,the motion trajectories of sample calligraphy images are firstly extracted and converted into the robot *** robot performs the writing with motion planning,and the writing motion parameters of calligraphy strokes are learnt with *** the motion data of basic strokes is synthesised based on the hierarchical process of‘stroke-radicalpart-character’.And the robot re-writes the synthesised characters whose similarity with the original calligraphy characters is *** calligraphy characters have been tested in the experiments for method validation and the results validated that the robot can actualise the robotic calligraphy synthesis of writing motion data with GAN.

This paper explores the narratives of the Chinese woman novelist Shao-Lin Chu’s trilogy to see how the problem of female sexuality and resistance to parental wedlock tragedy becomes a traumatic *** traumatic symptoms in the narratives are taken as Peircean signs for tracing the negative influences of traumatic experiences on the formation of personal identity and the associated depressive *** scenes portrayed in Chu’s traumatic narratives of female and male sexuality are implications and representations of how sexuality is conceptualized and confined by the traumatic events while backgrounded with regulations and restrictions of a traditional *** stories of Chu’s female narrators reveal the persistent and resisting feminine *** paper adopts the concept of feminist narrative to analyze the traumatic and sexual events in Chu’s *** decoding and re-encoding of resistance and sexuality in the traumatic narratives prove that the narratological textual analysis and semiotic reading strategy together offer a solid approach to the discovery of the persistent traumatic impacts of the secret veiled in the narratives and reveal the probable strength of compassion that has its roots derived from deplorable trauma but later transforms itself to stimulate a positive reconstruction of the traumatic survivors’identity.

A Comparative Study on the Processing of Emojis and Faces in Human Communication

In the digital era,emojis have enriched the way people communicate and research on emojis explosively increased in recent ***,few noticed their functions from the neurocognitive perspective,especially their similarities and differences with facial expressions in traditional face-to-face *** fill this gap,we conducted a Meta-analysis with 25 independent effect sizes from previous experimental *** present study shows that emojis have slight advantages in processing efficiency,which might be attributed to their simplicity in design,namely the omission of complex facial features,but the difference between emoji and face processing is not *** addition,emotional valence and experimental methods do not have significant influences,which suggests that emojis are equally effective as human faces in emotional *** current research contributes to the knowledge in digital communication and the crucial role played by emojis therein.

Aiming at the problem of ignoring the importance of starting point features of trajecory segmentation in existing trajectory compression algorithms,a study was conducted on the preprocessing process of trajectory time ***,an algorithm improvement was proposed based on the segmentation algorithm GRASP-UTS(Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure for Unsupervised Trajectory Segmentation).On the basis of considering trajectory coverage,this algorithm designs an adaptive parameter adjustment to segment long-term trajectory data reasonably and the identification of an optimal starting point for *** the compression efficiency of typical offline and online algorithms,such as the Douglas-Peucker algorithm,the Sliding Window algorithm and its enhancements,was compared before and after *** experimental findings highlight that the Adaptive Parameters GRASP-UTS segmentation approach leads to higher fitting precision in trajectory time series compression and improved algorithm efficiency ***,the compression performance of the Improved Sliding Window algorithm post-segmentation showcases its suitability for trajectories of varying scales,providing reasonable compression accuracy.

Graphene-doped CuO(rGO-CuO)nanocomposites with flower shapes were prepared by an improved solvothermal *** samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–visible *** active species in the degradation reaction of rGO-CuO composites under ultrasonic irradiation were detected by electron paramagnetic *** the basis of comparative experiments,the photodegradation mechanisms of two typical dyes,Rhodamine B(Rh B)and methyl orange(MO),were *** results demonstrated that the doped CuO could improve the degradation *** catalytic degradation efficiency of rGO-CuO(2:1)to rhodamine B(RhB)and methyl orange(MO)reached 90%and 87%respectively,which were 2.1 times and 4.4 times of the reduced graphene *** the first-principles and other theories,we give the reasons for the enhanced catalytic performance of rGO-CuO:combined with internal and external factors,rGO-CuO under ultrasound could produce more hole and active sites that could interact with the OH·in pollutant molecules to achieve *** rGO-CuO nanocomposite has a simple preparation process and low price,and has a high efficiency of degrading water pollution products and no secondary pollution *** has a low-cost and high-efficiency application prospect in water pollution industrial production and life.

This study presents an in-depth examination of the impact of educational gamification on middle school students’learning motivation through a mixed-methods *** integration of quantitative survey data and qualitative interviews and observations revealed that gamification significantly enhances intrinsic motivation by increasing interest and engagement in a learning *** study also found that gamification indirectly boosts extrinsic motivation through the augmentation of social interaction and learning *** equation modeling underscored the direct and indirect effects of gamification on learning *** findings suggest that educators should integrate gamification elements into their teaching designs,focus on fulfilling students’psychological needs for autonomy,competence,and relatedness,and leverage social interactions to foster *** study’s contributions to the educational field include empirical evidence of gamification’s impact and a multidimensional perspective that strengthens the depth of understanding in the application of ***,the study acknowledges limitations such as potential biases and a non-representative sample,calling for future research to address these issues through broader and longitudinal studies.
