Molecular basis of the allergenicity and cross-reactivity of a major allergen-Crassostrea gigas arginine kinase

As an important shellfish group， the oyster can induce severe allergic reactions. We aimed to identify and characterize the major allergen in Crassostrea gigas， and elucidate the molecular basis of its allergenicity and cross-reactivity. The native and recombinant C. gigas-AK displayed significant IgG- and IgE-binding activity. The IgE-binding activity of C. gigas-AK could be reduced by thermal treatment and strong acidic and alkaline conditions. Besides， cross-reactivity of AK was demonstrated between shellfish species. Among seven epitope peptides identified here， P2 is responsible for the specificity of C. gigas-AK， while P3 is responsible for cross-reactions between mollusks and crustaceans. Furthermore， Glu98 and His31 in the light chain， Arg101， and Lys57 in the heavy chain are identified as key IgE residues in recognizing epitopes. These findings provide new insights into the prevention and treatment of shellfish allergy and the development of hypoallergenic shellfish products.

Delaying skin-aging through diet is a hot research topic in recent years， but the anti-aging effects of fish gelatin and related mechanisms are not well understood. In this study， we prepared edible fish gelatin from the swim bladder of Cynoscion acoupa using three different processing methods， namely dried (DCM)， soaked (SCM) and instanted (ICM)， to investigate its anti-aging effects and mechanisms on D-galactose induced skin aging in mice， as well as its effects on the gut microbiota. The results demonstrated that fish gelatin significantly increased water content， collagen， hyaluronic acid (HA) and hyaluronic acid (HYP) content， and skin integrity of mice skin， as well as enhanced the antioxidative ability and anti-inflammatory capacity of the skin. In terms of protein and mRNA expression levels in skin tissue， CMs treated with different treatments can up-regulate the expression of EGFR and TIMP1， down-regulating the expression of MMP1 and MMP3， and increase the expression of COL3A1 and COL1A2. CMs attenuated the D-galactose-mediated inhibition collagen expression by stimulating the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway， thereby maintaining collagen matrix homeostasis. In addition， we revealed that CMs reversed gut micribiota by increase the abundance of intestinal flora. In conclusion， we demonstrated that CMs， especially for ICM， as an effective dietary supplement， have potential anti-aging and skin health benefits.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension (HTN) are one of the main causes of death in Cameroon. This study aimed at assessing prevalence disparities and determinants of hypertension amongst Bamiléké adults residing in two different agroecological zones of Cameroon. Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive survey was conducted among Bamiléké population living in the Highlands zone (Western region) and in the Monomodal Rainforest zone (Littoral region) of Cameroon from August 2016 to August 2017. Participants (962) were aged at least 20 years old. Data on sociodemographic, hemodynamic, anthropometric, and biochemical parameters and lifestyle of the participants were collected. Results: Results obtained revealed that 34.2% were hypertensive and those residing in the highland zone were more affected than those living in the monomodal rainforest zone (44.5% vs 22.9%). The different subtypes of HTN (Isolated systolic hypertension (14.1%), isolated diastolic hypertension (7.2%) and Systo-diastolic hypertension (23.3%)) were also more prevalent in the Highlands Zone. The most prevalent stage of HTN was pre-HTN (31.5%). However, people living in the monomodal rainforest zone were more affected by pre-HTN compared to Bamiléké living in the highland zone (33.6% vs. 29.6%). Results also showed that high consumption (≥ 3 times/week) of carbohydrate- and fat-rich foods, ageing, obesity, and marital status were associated with high blood pressure in both agroecological zones. Besides, secondary education (OR = 0.68;95% CI: 0.42 - 0.99) in the Highlands Zone and high (≥3 times/week) vegetable consumption (OR = 0.66;95% CI: 0.44 - 0.98) in the Monomodal Rainforest Zone had a protective effect on elevated blood pressure of population. Conclusion: There is a disparity in the prevalence of hypertension and some of its determinants among Bamiléké adults residing in different agroecological zones. food security has been long understudied in the context of Central *** present an analysis examining household-level food demand for Tajikistan and assessing the magnitude of its food security changes during the COVID-19 *** on an extensive household survey data set from Tajikistan,we estimate the expenditure,income,and price elasticities for nine food categories using the QUAIDS ***,we develop a microsimulation model using the estimated elasticities to assess the dual impact of declining remittance income and rising food prices stemming from the pandemic *** are significant differences in demand elasticities across food groups,with high elasticities observed for nutritious foods,such as meat,fruit,eggs,and milk,in rural ***,our findings show that changes in remittance income and food prices significantly negatively affected food security for rural households during the COVID-19 *** findings have important implications for policymakers concerned about rural livelihoods and food security in remittance-receiving economies during the post-pandemic period.

Black soils, characterized by their thick, dark horizons enriched with organic matter, epitomize highly fertile soils. However, their fertility precipitates intense land use, engendering challenges such as soil erosion, nutrient depletion, pollution, compaction, salinization, and acidification. Notably, these soils are significant contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, primarily due to substantial losses in soil organic carbon. Despite these challenges, black soils are pivotal for global food production. This paper delineates the implementation of digital soil mapping for the global cartography of black soils and human interference on these soils. Predominantly distributed in Eastern Europe, Central and Eastern Asia, and North and South America, black soils cover an approximate area of 725 Mha, with the Russian Federation,Kazakhstan, and China collectively have over half of this area. Agriculturally,these soils underpin significant proportions of global crop yields, producing 66% of sunflower, 30% of wheat, and 26% of potato outputs. The organic carbon content in the upper 30 cm of these soils is estimated at 56 *** management of black soils is imperative for ensuring food security and addressing climate change on a global scale.
