The discovery of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, in December 2019 raised global health warnings. Quickly, in 2020, the virus crossed borders and infected individuals across the world, evolving into the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, early signs of the virus’s existence were observed in various countries before the initial outbreak in Wuhan. As of 12th of April, the respiratory disease had infected over 762 million people worldwide, with over 6.8 million deaths recorded. This has led scientists to focus their efforts on understanding the virus to develop effective means to diagnose, treat, prevent, and control this pandemic. One of the areas of focus is the isolation of this virus, which plays a crucial role in understanding the viral dynamics in the laboratory. In this study, we report the isolation and detection of locally circulating SARS-CoV-2 in Kenya. The isolates were cultured on Vero Cercopithecus cell line (CCL-81) cells, RNA extraction was conducted from the supernatants, and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Genome sequencing was done to profile the strains phylogenetically and identify novel and previously reported mutations. Vero CCL-81 cells were able to support the growth of SARS-CoV-2 in vitro, and mutations were detected from the two isolates sequenced (001 and 002). Genome sequencing revealed the circulation of two isolates that share a close relationship with the Benin isolate with the D614G common mutation identified along the S protein. These virus isolates will be expanded and made available to the Kenya Ministry of Health and other research institutions to advance SARS-CoV-2 research in Kenya and the region.

Background:Pancreatic signet ring cell carcinoma(SRCC)is an exceedingly rare histological subtype of pancreatic *** studies have focused on the trends of incidence and independent predictors of pancreatic *** objectives of the study were to analyze the prognostic value of the lymph node ratio(LNR)and to explore the minimal number of lymph nodes examined to accurately evaluate the N stage in resected pancreatic ***:We analyzed 120 patients diagnosed from January 1,1990,to December 31,2016,constituted the study cohort from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results(SEER)*** calculated the overall survival(OS)of these patients by using a Kaplan–Meier *** Kaplan–Meier analysis was used to analyze the influence of various factors on the prognosis of patients in the univariate *** multivariate Cox analysis were applied to find independent prognostic factors of patients with pancreatic ***-operating characteristic curve(ROC)analysis to investigate the discriminatory ability of the total number of lymph nodes examined(TNLE)relative to whether lymph node metastasis was ***:The median number of lymph nodes examined among 120 patients with resected pancreatic SRCC was 14(interquartile range:6.25–20.0).According to the univariate analysis of OS,age,grade,chemotherapy,LNR,and TNLE were significantly different(P<.05).We demonstrated the prognostic benefit of chemotherapy in resected pancreatic SRCC,whereas radiotherapy was not associated with improved *** multivariate survival analysis showed that LNR and grade were independent prognostic indicators after pancreatic SRCC resection for ***≥8 showed the highest discriminatory power for evaluating lymph node metastasis(Area under curve(AUC):0.656,95%confidence interval:0.564–0.741,Youden index:0.2533,sensitivity:78.67%,specificity:46.67%,P=.003).Conclusion:Our study indicated that the LNR was a valuable independent prognostic factor for resected

To the Editor:Obesity characterized with excess accumulation of white adipose tissue increases the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM).Exposure to intrauterine hyperglycemia increases the long-term sequelae including cardiovascular abnormalities and metabolic syndrome in adult offspring.[1]As early as two decades ago,*** Barker provided evidence that nutritional exposures in utero has a lasting impact on offspring’s health status in adulthood.[2]This emphasizes the critical role of early intrauterine environmental exposures and highlights the potential origins of adult metabolic diseases.
