Nanotechnology is briefly a science field searching substances having superior properties at nano-scale (different optical, mechanical and thermal properties) and those to be potentially produced in the future from these substances. Accordingly, it is a technology regarding opportunities providing the development during the formation of new products not applicable in advance and the formation of new processes. This technology that has the potential of affecting the world economy is at the development stage just now and it is thought that it will cause high changes in human life in the future 15-20 years. Nanotechnology provides an opportunity bringing new technological developments and applications appeared as impossible before as well as bringing a new perspective for available technological processes. In the context of the report in the light of mentioned information, brief information was given on the place and use of nanotechnology in fields such as systems of drug delivery, diagnosis of diseases, vaccine development, treatment of diseases, improvement of fertility functions of animals, determination of fertility capabilities of animals, store of gametes and embryos by freezing, animal breeding, farm medicine, meat and meat production, food safety, and neutralization of animals as use areas in veterinary medicine. Furthermore, in our country and the world, knowledge regarding the intended use of nano-technology based drugs used in veterinary medicine was presented in Table 1.

Understanding the Nexus between Climate Change, the Shift in Land Use toward Cashew Production and Rural Food Security in Ghana;the Experiences of Farmers in the Transition Zone of Ghana

This study summarises the findings from a study investigating rural small-holding farmers’experiences on the shift from food crop to cashew in the forest/savanna transitional agro-ecological zone of Ghana and its impact on rural food *** a mix method approach,the study sampled the views of 400 farmers from 9 farming communities in the Wenchi Municipality of Ghana via questionnaire and semi-structured interview and collated statistical data on crop production to trace the nexus between climate change,agrarian land-use decisions and food *** study found evidence of increasing shift from food crop to cashew *** was evidenced by increasing cashew cultivation and cashew output and decreasing total land acreage for food crops and increasing food insecurity of *** findings revealed that about 71%of farmers had expanded their cashew farms and another 41.0%have turned their food crops’lands to cashew *** cashew production,(57.0%)has overtaken the traditional food crop-maize(25.5%)production in terms of ***,the study found that the main motivation for the shift from food crop to cashew production is not only to maximise income in bulk,but also climate change adaptability *** study found that the cashew crop is resilient in adapting to the changing climate and less prone to pests’invasion compared to maize in the study *** study found that food security among rural folks had been seriously compromised by the conversion of farmlands from food crop to cashew ***,the study found that female farmers have higher consciousness to food security yet less motivated to shift from food crop to cashew crop production compared to ***,females are the hardest hit group because of their low ownership of or access to farmlands and low voices of women in farmland use decision making in a men-dominant rural extended family setting of the study *** study concludes that climate

The anorectic response to growth hormone in obese rats is associated with increased ketogenesis: A short communication

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether obese rats with a strong anorectic response to growth hormone also showed signs of increased hepatic ketogenesis as reflected in circulating β-hydroxybutyrate levels. Rats with diet-induced obesity were allocated to one of two groups, receiving either vehicle (n = 7) or 4 mg/kg/d of growth hormone (n = 13) for 4 days. This latter group was later split into a group of responders (n = 8) showing a cumulated reduction of food intake of more than 4 g from base line during the last two days of administrations and a group of non-responders (n = 5). The cumulated reduction of food intake from baseline among the responders was 10.8 ±1.5 g. The corresponding marginal reductions in the non-responder and vehicle groups were 0.5 ±3.4 gand 0.5 ±3.7 g, respectively. Growth hormone administration generally increased serum levels of β-hydroxybutyrate and free fatty acids, compared with vehicle, whereas triglycerides were decreased. Among the responders this effect was statistically significant in all instances whereas the same trend was weaker among non-responders. The main finding of the present study was that the serum β-hydroxybutyrate levels of 0.76 ± 0.11 mmol/l among responders was three times higher than non-responders

Antineoplastic phospholipids are a new class of antitumor *** molecules interact with the plasma membrane,changing numerous pathways that induce cell death,with high selectivity for cancer cells.A representative of this class of antineoplastic agents is 2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate(2-AEH2P).It is present in high intracellular concentrations in various tissues and organelles with antitumor,antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic ***,4T1 triple-negative tumor cells were treated in different concentrations in order to assess the cytotoxic potential and its effects on the modulation of cell death pathways in association with the chemotherapeutic drug Paclitaxel.2-AEH2P promoted cytotoxicity in tumor cells and significant morphological changes,however,it did not cause these effects in normal *** was positive regulation of proteins involved in the intrinsic pathway of cell death by apoptosis and regulation of the phases of cell cycle ***,structural and distribution changes in mitochondria,as well as decreased cell density and regression of the cytoskeleton were *** 2-AEH2P demonstrated a modulatory potential of apoptotic pathways inducing cell death,being a new compound with antitumor properties.

Evaluation of the VIUSID Vet (Powder and Solution) Nutritional Supplement in Growing-Finishing Pigs

The objective of this research was to evaluate the impact of the VIUSID Vet(powder and solution)nutritional supplement on the productive performance of growing-finishing *** experiments were conducted,each using 210 pigs at an average age of 40 d—70 per treatment—which were distributed into 15 pens(five per group).The experiments lasted 170 *** treatments consisted in:Experiment 1,Group I control group;Group II received from the start 1.5 g of VIUSID Vet powder per kilogram of feed daily for 90 d;Group III same as the former,but instead given 2.0 *** 2,Group I control;Group II received from the start 1.5 g of VIUSID Vet powder per kilogram of feed daily for 90 d;Group III same as the former,but instead given 1.5 mL of VIUSID Vet solution per kilogram of *** Vet(powder or solution)significantly improved weight gain and feed conversion as well as reduced deaths when given doses of 2.0 g and 1.5 g or 1.5 mL per kilogram of feed during the first 90 d of the growing-finishing phase,giving rise to financial benefits.

Effect of low-density lipoproteins, spermatozoa concentration and glycerol on functional and motility parameters of bull spermatozoa during storage at 4℃

An extender has been developed with low-density lipoproteins （LDLs） that eliminates the microbial risks associated with the use of whole egg yolk. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of substituting egg yolk with LDLs for use as an extender in sperm preservation at 4 ℃, as well as on spermatozoa motility, plasma membrane and acrosome integrity, at two different concentrations （80×10^6 and 240× 10^6 sperm per ml） for 8 days and to evaluate glycerol toxicity in both extenders. A total of 12 ejaculates were collected from three bulls. Spermatozoa motility was examined using computer-assisted semen analysis. Plasma membrane integrity was determined using the hypo-osmotic swelling test and acrosome integrity with the fluorescein isothiocyanate-Pisum sativum agglutinin test. The semen was subsequently divided into four aliquots and diluted with Tris-egg yolk-glycerol （TEG）, Tris-egg yolk without glycerol （TE）, LDL with glycerol （LDL＋） and LDL without glycerol （LDL-）, at 80×10^6 and 240 ×10^6sperm per ml. This study showed that the LDL＋ and LDL- extenders were more effective at preserving spermatozoa motility, plasma membrane integrity and acrosome integrity than TEG and TE （P〈0.05） during 8 days of incubation. After 3 days of incubation, a toxicity of glycerol was observed in TEG, whereas no significant difference was observed between LDL＋ and LDL-. We can therefore conclude that the LDL extender can be used to refrigerate semen at 4 ~C instead of TEG and TE at 80×10^6and 240×10^6 sperm per ml for elite bulls. This finding can be used to define a policy for the storage of high-quality bull semen.

Substrate specificity of avian influenza H5N1 neuraminidase

AIM: To characterise neuraminidase(NA) substrate specificity of avian influenza H5N1 strains from humans and birds comparing to seasonal influenza ***: Avian influenza H5N1 strains from humans and birds were recruited for characterising their NA substrate specificity by using a modified commercial fluorescence Amplex Red assay. This method can identify the preference of α2,6-linked sialic acid or α2,3-linked sialic acid. Moreover, to avoid the bias of input virus, reverse genetic virus using NA gene from human isolated H5N1 were generated and used to compare with the seasonal influenza virus. Lastly, the substrate specificity profile was further confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) analysis of the enzymatic product. RESULTS: The H5N1 NA showed higher activity on α2,3-linked sialic acid than α2,6-linked(P < 0.0001). To compare the NA activity between the H5N1 and seasonal influenza viruses, reverse genetic viruses carrying the NA of H5N1 viruses and NA from a seasonal H3N2 virus was generated. In these reverse genetic viruses, the NA activity of the H5N1 showed markedly higher activity against α2,3-linked sialic acid than that of the H3N2 virus, whereas the activities on α2,6-linkage were comparable. Interestingly, NA from an H5N1 human isolate that was previously shown to have heamagglutinin(HA) with dual specificity showed reduced activity on α2,3-linkage. To confirm the substrate specificity profile, HPLC analytic of enzymatic product was performed. Similar to Amplex red assay, H5N1 virus showed abundant preference on α2,3-linked sialic ***: H5N1 virus maintains the avian specific NA and NA changes may be needed to accompany changes in HA receptor preference for the viral adaptation to humans.

The reduced diameter of skeletal myofibres is a hallmark of several congenital myopathies,yet the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain *** this study,we investigate the role of HACD1/PTPLA,which is involved in the elongation of the very long chain fatty acids,in muscle fibre *** humans and dogs,HACD1 deficiency leads to a congenital myopathy with fibre size disproportion associated with a generalized *** of HACD1-deficient Labradors,Hacd1-knockout mice,and Hacd1-deficient myoblasts,we provide evidence that HACD1 promotes myoblast fusion during muscle development and *** further demonstrate that in normal differentiating myoblasts,expression of the catalytically active HACD1 isoform,which is encoded by a muscle-enriched splice variant,yields decreased lysophosphatidylcholine content,a potent inhibitor of myoblast fusion,and increased concentrations of≥C18 and monounsaturated fatty acids of *** lipid modifications correlate with a reduction in plasma membrane *** conclusion,we propose that fusion impairment constitutes a novel,non-exclusive pathological mechanism operating in congenital myopathies and reveal that HACD1 is a key regulator of a lipid-dependent muscle fibre growth mechanism.

The animal has the potential to serve as a clinical model for human disease,due to striking similarities and homologies in *** clinical development of a new drug may influence its final destination,and a careful and thoughtful approach to Phase-1 clinical trials is ***(2-AEH2P)is a new cytostatic phospholipid agent that,unlike most chemotherapeutic drugs used today,does not target DNA or cytoskeleton,but act on the cell *** carried out by our group have shown several effects of 2-AEH2P controlling the progression of the cell cycle,in the alterations of the mitochondrial electrical potential capable of inducing apoptosis and autophagy in several types of human and animal tumor *** aim of this study is to establish the recommended safety dose of a 2-AEH2P monophosphoester,in dogs with tumor following the Phase 1 study model proposed by *** Phase-1 study following the Fibonacci model,2-AEH2P was safe at all staggered doses up to 150 mg/Kg for 8 *** administration in staggered doses according to the Fibonacci model,showed that the drug is safe,no advent of mortality during the study period or acute toxicity were *** is not a drug with hemolytic properties or that induces *** does not lead to changes in liver and renal functions and was able to modulate leukocyte production.2-AEH2P is new compound with antitumor potential,being useful for future veterinary and human tumors,as a combination of chemotherapeutic agents.
