Hybrid data-driven framework for shale gas production performance analysis via game theory, machine learning, and optimization approaches

A comprehensive and precise analysis of shale gas production performance is crucial for evaluating resource potential,designing a field development plan,and making investment ***,quantitative analysis can be challenging because production performance is dominated by the complex interaction among a series of geological and engineering *** fact,each factor can be viewed as a player who makes cooperative contributions to the production payoff within the constraints of physical laws and *** by the idea,we propose a hybrid data-driven analysis framework in this study,where the contributions of dominant factors are quantitatively evaluated,the productions are precisely forecasted,and the development optimization suggestions are comprehensively *** specifically,game theory and machine learning models are coupled to determine the dominating geological and engineering *** Shapley value with definite physical meaning is employed to quantitatively measure the effects of individual factors.A multi-model-fused stacked model is trained for production forecast,which provides the basis for derivative-free optimization algorithms to optimize the development *** complete workflow is validated with actual production data collected from the Fuling shale gas field,Sichuan Basin,*** validation results show that the proposed procedure can draw rigorous conclusions with quantified evidence and thereby provide specific and reliable suggestions for development plan *** with traditional and experience-based approaches,the hybrid data-driven procedure is advanced in terms of both efficiency and accuracy.

Structure kinematics of a transtensional basin:An example from the Linnan Subsag, Bohai Bay basin,Eastern China

The Linnan subsag is a petroliferous, secondary tectonic unit of the Huimin sag that is located in the western part of the Jiyang depression in the Bohai Bay basin, eastern China. In this study, the authors calculated basin extensional rate and slipping displacement of boundary faults in the dip and strike directions, using seismic and drilling data. The evolution of the Linnan transtensional basin from the Eogene through the Quaternary is quantitatively described, and a dynamic model is established. The Linshan and Xiakou boundary faults of the Linnan subsag are used as a case study to describe a method to calculate the strike and dip slipping displacements of active faults under oblique extension. The results quantitatively illustrate the behavior of the Linnan subsag boundary faults over time. The Linnan subsag transtensional basin experienced four stages of evolution: weak extension during the Kongdian Formation, rapid extension and fault depression during the fourth member of the Shahejie Formation,intensive transtension and fault depression during the third member of the Shahejie Formation-Dongying Formation, and weakening fault depression during the Guantao Formation-Pingyuan *** results of this study provide further understanding of the processes of petroleum migration and accumulation in the region.

Hydrocarbon Accumulation Process in the Marine Strata in jianghan Plain Area, Middle China

Marine strata in the jianghan Plain area are widely distributed with a total depth of more than 8,000 m from the Upper Sinian to the Middle Triassic. Six reservoir caprock units, named Z-C2, C2-O, S, D--C, P and T1, can be identified with each epoch. The geology, stratigraphy, drilling, oil testing and other basic data as well as the measured inclusion and strontium isotope data in the study area are used in the analysis of the formation and evolution process of marine petroliferous reservoirs in the jianghan Plain area. This study aims to provide a scientific basis for the further exploration of hydrocarbons in the jianghan Plain and reduce the risks by analyzing the key factors for hydrocarbon accumulation in the marine strata. Our findings show that in the Lower Palaeozoic hydrocarbon reservoir, oil/gas migration and accumulation chiefly occurred in the early period of the Early Yanshanian, and the hydrocarbon reservoir was destroyed in the middle-late period of the Early Yanshanian. In the Lower Triassic-Carboniferous hydrocarbon reservoir, oil/gas migration and accumulation chiefly occurred in the Early Yanshanian, and the hydrocarbon reservoir suffered destruction from the Late Yanshanian to the Early Himalayanian. The preservation conditions of the marine strata in the jianghan Plain area have been improved since the Late Himalayanian. However, because all source beds have missed the oil/gas generation fastigium and lost the capacity to generate secondary hydrocarbon, no reaccumulation of hydrocarbons can be detected in the study area＇s marine strata. No industrially exploitable oil/gas reservoir has been discovered in the marine strata of jianghan Plain area since exploration began in 1958. This study confirms that petroliferous reservoirs in the marine strata have been completely destroyed, and that poor preservation conditions are the primary factor leading to unsuccessful hydrocarbon exploration. Determination of Hydrocarbon Charging History by Diagenetic Sequence and Fluid Inclusions:A Case Study of the Kongquehe Area in the Tarim Basin

Petrographic analysis of hydrocarbon inclusions in reservoirs is the basis and prerequisite for study of hydrocarbon charge history using fluid inclusion *** from Silurian reservoirs in the Kongquehe area were studied with microscopy,cathode luminescence and scanning electron microscopy,and the paragenetic sequence of diagenetic events was *** and oil inclusions were found in four different occurrences,i.e.,① in healed cracks in detrital quartz grains,② in quartz overgrowths that were formed relatively early in diagenesis,③ in healed cracks crosscutting quartz overgrowths and detrital quartz,and ④ in paragenetically late calcite *** bitumens were found in intergranular pores and in late fractures,whereas gas inclusions occur in healed cracks crosscutting quartz overgrowths and detrital *** homogenization temperatures of aqueous（Th_（aq）） and oil incluisons（Th_0） within individual fluid inclusion assemblages are very consistent,suggesting that the microthermometric data are *** Th_（aq） values are generally larger than Th_0,indicating the oil charging events took place at significant *** results suggest that there were at least two episodes of hydrocarbon charging in the Kongquehe area：the early hydrocarbon charging occurred in late Caledonian,dominated by oil,and the late hydrocarbon charging occurred in the Yanshan-Himalayan,first by oil and then *** addition,two episodes of hydrocarbon reservoir adjustment and destruction occurred in the Hercynian and Himalayan,respectively,forming solid bitumen.

Application of New Water Flooding Characteristic Curve in the High Water-Cut Stage of an oilfield

The oil production predicted by means of the conventional water-drive characteristic curve is typically affected by large deviations with respect to the actual value when the so-called high water-cut stage is *** order to solve this problem,a new characteristic relationship between the relative permeability ratio and the average water saturation is *** comparing the outcomes of different matching methods,it is verified that it can well reflect the variation characteristics of the relative permeability ratio *** the new formula with a reservoir engineering method,two new formulas are derived for the water flooding characteristic curve in the high water-cut *** practicability is verified by using the production data of Mawangmiao and Xijiakou *** results show that the error between the predicted cumulative oil production and production data of the two new water drive characteristic curves is less than the error between the B-type water drive characteristic curve and the other two water drive characteristic *** is concluded that the two new characteristic curves can be used to estimate more accurately the recoverable reserves,the final recovery and to estimate the effects of water flooding.

Formation mechanism of carbonates in the lacustrine muddy shale and it implication for shale oil and gas: A case study of source rocks in Member 4 and Member 3 of Shahejie Formation, Dongying sag

Through analysis of microscopic characteristics,mineral components,elements and isotopes,the genetic mechanism of carbonates in the deep lacustrine source rocks in the upper submember of Member 4 and lower submember of Member 3 of Shahejie Formation in Dongying sag,is well *** results show that four types of carbonates in the deep lake,i.e.,lenticular coarse crystalline carbonate,lamellar micro-fine crystalline carbonate,lamellar cryptocrystalline carbonate and massive cryptocrystalline *** which,the lenticular coarse crystalline carbonate is formed by diagenetic *** the lamellar micro-fine crystalline carbonate and the lamellar cryptocrystalline carbonate,through the alga photosynthesis,the carbon dioxide(CO_(2))is constantly extracted from water,thus the concentration of CO_(3)^(-2) ion in water increases,and then the CO_(3)^(-2) ion reacts with Ca2+ ion in lake water surface to form the carbonates;the saline water environment is favorable for preservation of carbonate particles which mostly occur in lamellar micro-fine crystalline;in the brackish water environment,the water is deep,and the carbonate crystalline beneath the carbonate compensation depth surface is usually is dissolved,and most of lamellar cryptocrystalline are *** massive cryptocrystalline carbonate is formed by the sedimentary carbonate which transport from shallow water to deep water by gravity *** some extent,the carbonates control reservoir property and compressibility of muddy shale in the upper submember of Member 4 and lower submember of Member 3 of Shahejie Formation in Dongying sag,and provide important information for reconstruction of sedimentary environment of the ancient lake.

China’s helium resource is highly dependent on overseas ***-rich and U/Th-rich shale reservoirs generally contain helium,and although the helium content is low,the total reserve is ***,the effective development and utilisation of shale-type helium resources is a realistic way to improve the security of helium resources in *** this study,the generation mechanism,helium source and content,migration modes and pathways,controlling factors of enrichment,distribution pattern,and resource potential of the helium were analysed,using the Wufeng-Longmaxi shale in the Sichuan Basin and its ***,countermeasures were proposed for shale-type helium exploration and *** results show that the Wufeng-Longmaxi shale has a high content of U and Th and a good ability to generate *** helium is generated by a typical crustal source of helium and is characterised by self-generation,self-storage,and wide *** helium resource potential is a product of its content and the resources of the associated natural *** continuous supply of helium and effective preservation are the main geological factors that control the enrichment of shale-type *** preliminary evaluation results show that the reserves of helium in proven shale gas reserves are 10.8×10^(8)m^(3)in the Sichuan Basin and its periphery,where the extra-large helium fields are likely to be ***,0.0912×10^(8)m^(3)of helium was produced,along with the annual production of shale *** avoid the waste of helium and to improve the self-supply ability,it is suggested that research on the resource potential,enrichment mechanism,and distribution pattern of shale-type helium should be carried out as soon as possible,and helium extraction techniques for helium-bearing natural gas should be studied.

Detrital Zircon U-Pb Dating for Clastic Rocks from Boreholes in the Eastern Junggar Basin:Constraints on Permian Tectonics in the Southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt

Permian sedimentary successions,widely distributed in the eastern Junggar Basin,may record key details on the closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean in this *** of boreholes show that Permian strata is mainly composed of mudstone,sandy mudstone,siltstone,sandstone,sandy conglomerate,dolomite,and *** zircon U-Pb dating results of three sandstone samples yielded the calculated maximum ages of 296 Ma,278 Ma and 293 Ma,indicating they possibly deposited during the Early *** strata in the eastern Junggar Basin show similar rock associations and detrital zircon age data distribution *** new and compiled age data for sandstone samples in the eastern Junggar Basin and Bogda region yield predominant Paleozoic ages,close to their sedimentary *** detrital zircon age data distribution patterns support the hypothesis that these Early Permian meta-clastic rocks in the eastern Junggar Basin and Bogda region were deposited in a subduction-related basin,and indicate an Early Permian Ocean prevented Precambrian detritus from the Central Tianshan block from depositing in the eastern Junggar Basin and Bogda region.

Improving oil recovery in the CO2 flooding process by utilizing nonpolar chemical modifiers

By means of experiments of C02 miscibility with crude oil, four nonpolar chemicals were evaluated in order to enhance the miscibility of C02 with crude oil. Through pre-slug injection and joint injection of toluene in CO2, crude oil displacement experiments in the slim-tube were conducted to investigate effects of the toluene- enhanced C02 flooding under simulated subterranean reservoir conditions. Experimental results showed that toluene can enhance extraction of oil into C02 and dissolution of C02 into oil with the increment of 251% and 64% respectively. Addition of toluene can obviously improve the oil recovery in either pre-slug injection or joint injection, and the crude oil recovery increased with the increase of the toluene concentration. The oil recov- ery can increase by 22.5% in pre-slug injection with the high toluene concentration. Pre-slug injection was recom- mended because it can consume less toluene than joint injection. This work could be useful to development and application of the CO） flooding in the oil recoverv as well as CO2 emission reduction.

Control of different occurrence types of organic matter on hydrocarbon generation in mudstones

Organic matter(OM) is preserved as different occurrences in mudstones, which can affect the hydrocarbon generation process. However, little research has focused on hydrocarbon generation as a function of different occurrences of OM. This study collected a suite of mudstones in the Dongying Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, and conducted Rock-Eval Ⅵ pyrolysis after Soxhlet extraction and Na_(2)S_(2)O_(8) oxidation, aiming to quantify the OM with different occurrences and figure out the contributions of each occurrence of OM to the hydrocarbon generation. There are three types of occurrences of OM: soluble organic matter(SOM),mineral-bound organic matter(MOM), and particulate organic matter(POM). MOM is the most abundant among the three occurrence types of OM. SOM and MOM are the main hydrocarbon precursors, and their hydrocarbon contributions alternate with different kerogen types and layers. Additionally, MOMcontributed hydrocarbons are numerous at shallow depths;SOM-contributed hydrocarbons mainly occur at deep depths;and POM-contributed hydrocarbons change little with depth. These results demonstrate that MOM should be the main hydrocarbon precursor in shallow formations and that SOM is the main hydrocarbon contributor at deep depths.
