Chlorine has been widely used in different advanced oxidation processes(AOPs)for micropollutants *** this study,different chlorine-based AOPs,namely medium pressure(MP)UV/chlorine,low pressure(LP)UV/chlorine,and in-situ chlorination,were compared for carbamazepine(CBZ)removal efficiency,energy consumption,and disinfection by-products(DBPs)*** three processes could achieve nearly 100%CBZ removal,while the reaction time needed by in-situ chlorination was double the time required by UV/chlorine *** energy consumed per magnitude of CBZ removed(EE/O)of MP UV/chlorine was 13 times higher than that of LP UV/chlorine,and relative to that of in-situ chlorination ***,MP and LP UV/chlorine processes generated one to two orders of magnitude more hydroxyl radicals(^(·)OH)and reactive chlorine species(RCS)than in-situ ***,RCS were the dominant reactive species,contributing to 78.3%,75.6%,and 71.6% of CBZ removal in MP,LP UV/chlorine,and in-situ chlorination,*** to the Gibbs free energy barriers between CBZ and RCS/^(·)OH calculated based on density functional theory(DFT),RCS had more reaction routes with CBZ and showed lower energy barrier in the main CBZ degradation pathways like epoxidation and formation of *** applied to secondary wastewater effluent,UV/chlorine and in-situ chlorination produced overall DBPs ranging from 104.77 to 135.41μg/***,the production of chlorate during UV/chlorine processes was 15 times higher than that during in-situ chlorination.

Non-destructive Testing and Intelligent Evaluation of Road Structural Conditions using GPR and FWD

Aiming at the assessment of road structural conditions， a method of combining ground penetrating radar (GPR) and falling weight deflectometer (FWD) for assessing the pavement structural integrity and strength was proposed in this study. First， 3D GPR was performed to detect the thickness and internal distress of pavement structural layers using the canny edge detection and you only look once version eight (YOLOv8) detection algorithms. Results showed that the error of thickness extraction was approximately 3%， and the distress detection achieved a mean average precision (mAP) of 0.859 and an inference time of 11.43 ms with a GTX 1070 GPU. Then， the extracted thickness was used for the modulus (E) inversion of pavement structure layers based on FWD test data and regression analysis. Finally， the distress ratio inside pavement structures (DRIPS) was proposed as a structural integrity index. The relationship between E and DRIPS was revealed and showed a good correlation. The greater the DRIPS value， the worse the pavement structural integrity and strength. It provides a reference for the evaluation of road structural conditions. This strategy proved to be reliable for nondestructive testing and evaluation of road structures， which could improve the comprehensiveness and effectiveness for evaluating road structural conditions.

Hormonal control of seasonal color change in female spiny-footed lizards:an observational and experimental approach

Breeding coloration of females often signals aspects of their reproductive status,suggesting a link between color and sex steroid *** this study,we examined the relationships between 2 sex steroid hormones(progesterone and p-estradiol)and reproductive coloration in female spinyfooted lizards Acanthodactylus *** first explored natural variation in female plasma hormone levels and coloration during their reproductive cycle,p-estradiol was negatively related to brightness and positively related to red saturation,whereas progesterone was not significantly related to *** identifying key relationships,plasma hormone concentrations were manipulated by creating 3 experimental female groups(p-estradiol-treated,progesterone-treated,and control),and the effects on coloration were monitored,p-estradiol-treated females,in which there was a rise in both p-estradiol and progesterone levels,lost their red coloration earlier than females in the other 2 experimental groups,whereas progesterone treatment had no significant effect on female *** results suggest that high levels of either p-estradiol alone or(3-estradiol together with progesterone trigger the loss of red coloration in female spiny-footed lizards,and that progesterone alone does not affect *** hypothesize that changes in female breeding color might be regulated by(3-estradiol in species in which conspicuous coloration is displayed before ovulation,and by progesterone in species in which this color is displayed during gravidity.

Gas flow in shales follows a number of physical mechanisms that include Knudsen diffusion,Darcy flow,and adsorption in the matrix and micro *** aim of the study is to resolve the interplay of gas transport in these media at increased effective stress as well as net pore *** this research,we investigated the nature of gas transport in the matrix of shale by sending He,CH_(4)and CO_(2)gases through a transient upstream pressure pulse decay instrument.A series of experiments were conducted at constant pore pressures and a gradually increasing confining *** same study was done in three different scenarios,injecting He,CO_(2)and CH_(4).At a constant pore pressure,gas permeability appears to decrease with an increasing confining pressure and effective *** increasing effective stress,the slip factor also decreases along with the *** decrease in slip could be attributed to prestressing,that is likely to create new *** the three purged gases,permeability of shale to CH_(4)is the highest,and that to CO_(2)is the lowest owing to its high *** permeability of CH_(4)against He,could be attributed to the dual transport mechanism.

Asperuloside Promotes Apoptosis of Cervical Cancer Cells through Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress-Mitochondrial Pathway

Objective: To investigate the effects of asperuloside on cervical cancer based on endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress and mitochondrial pathway. Methods: Different doses(12.5–800 μg/mL) of asperuloside were used to treat cervical cancer cell lines Hela and CaSki to calculate the half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC_(50)) of asperuloside. The cell proliferation was analyzed by clone formation assay. Cell apoptosis, intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS) and mitochondrial membrane potential were determined by flow cytometry. The protein expressions of cleaved-caspase-3, Bcl-2, Bax, Cyt-c, cleaved-caspase-4 and glucose-regulated protein 78(GRP78) were analyzed by Western blot. And the inhibitor of ER stress, 4-phenyl butyric acid(4-PBA) was used to treat cervical cancer cells to further verify the role of ER stress in the apoptosis of cervical cancer cells induced by asperuloside. Results: Asperuloside of 325, 650, and 1300 μg/mL significantly inhibited the proliferation and promoted apoptosis of Hela and CaSki cells(P<0.01). All doses of asperuloside significantly increased intracellular ROS levels, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential, significantly reduced Bcl-2 protein expression level, and increased Bax, Cyt-c, GRP78 and cleaved-caspase-4 expressions(P<0.01). In addition, 10 mmol/L 4-PBA treatment significantly promoted cell proliferation and reduced apoptosis(P<0.05), and 650 μg/mL asperuloside could reverse 4-PBA-induced increased cell proliferation, decreased apoptosis and cleaved-caspase-3,-4 and GRP78 protein expressions(P<0.05). Conclusion: Our study revealed the role of asperuloside in cervical cancer, suggesting that asperuloside promotes apoptosis of cervical cancer cells through ER stress-mitochondrial pathway.

Structural Features of Nuclei in Leaf Mesophyll Cells of Salt-Tolerant Artemisia marschalliana

All nuclei in mesophyll cells of Artemisia marschalliana are located in vacuoles and occupy up to 90% of their volume. The ultrastructural organization of chromatin in nuclei shows different degrees of its decondensation, up to complete separation of DNA from histones. It is possible that the separation of DNA from histones enables Artemisia to grow in soils with high salinity.

Ultra-low reflection electromagnetic interference shielding nanofiber film with effective solar harvesting and self-cleaning

It is urgent to develop low-reflection electromagnetic interference shielding material to shield electromagnetic waves(EMW) and reduce their secondary radiation ***,an electromagnetic interference shielding nanofiber film is composed of ZnO and carbon nanofiber(CNF) via electrospinning and carbonization approachs,and subsequently coating perfuorooctyltriethoxysilane as a protective *** the one hand,ZnO coated by porous carbon,which is derived from ZIF-8,endows the nanofiber film low reflection property through optimizing impedance matching between free space and the nanofiber *** the other hand,the nanofiber film possesses high electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency,which is beneficial by excellent electrical conductivity of CNF derived from waste leather ***,the nanofiber film involves abundant interface,which contributes to high interfacial polarization ***,the nanofiber film with a thickness of 250 μm has electrical conductivity of 53 S/m and shielding efficiency of 50 *** reflection coefficient of the nanofiber film is inferior to 0.4 indicates that most of EMW are absorbed inside the materials and the nanofiber film is effective in reducing secondary radiation contamination of electromagnetic ***,the nanofiber film exhibits outstanding solar harvesting performance(106℃ at 1 sun density) and good self-cleaning performance,which ensure that the nanofiber film can work in harsh *** work supplies a credible reference for fabricating low-reflection electromagnetic shielding nanofiber film to reduce secondary radiation pollution and facilitates the upcycling of waste leather scraps.
