Tree allometry responses to competition and complementarity in mixed-species plantations of Betula alnoides

Tree allometry plays a crucial role in tree survival,stability,and timber quantity and quality of mixed-species ***,the responses of tree allometry to resource utilisation within the framework of interspecific competition and complementarity remain poorly *** into consideration strong-and weakspace competition(SC and WC),as well as N_(2)-fixing and non-N_(2)-fixing tree species(FN and nFN),a mixedspecies planting trial was conducted for Betula alnoides,a pioneer tree species,which was separately mixed with Acacia melanoxylon(SC+FN),Erythrophleum fordii(WC+FN),Eucalyptus cloeziana(SC+nFN)and Pinus kesiya ***(WC+nFN)in southern *** years after planting,tree growth,total nitrogen(N)and carbon(C)contents,and the natural abundances of^(15)N and^(13)C in the leaves were measured for each species,and the mycorrhizal colonisation rates of *** were investigated under each *** variations and their relationships with space competition and nutrient-related factors were *** results showed a consistent effect of space competition on the height-diameter relationship of *** in mixtures with FN or *** tree height growth of *** was significantly promoted under high space competition,and growth in diameter at breast height(DBH),tree height and crown size were all expedited in mixtures with *** symbiotic relationship between ectomycorrhizal fungi and *** was significantly influenced by both space competition and N_(2) fixation by the accompanying tree species,whereas such significant effects were absent for arbuscular mycorrhizal ***,high space competition significantly decreased the water use efficiency(WUE)of ***,and its N use efficiency(NUE)was much lower in the FN *** equation modeling further demonstrated that the stem allometry of *** was affected by its NUE and WUE via changes in its height growth,and crown allometry was influ

Atomically precise Ru-O-Ru clusters for enhanced water dissociation in alkaline hydrogen evolution

Atomic clusters typically exhibit distinctive electronic structures and physicochemical ***,as the size decreases,their ability to adsorb and dissociate water also diminishes,thereby affecting chemical reactions involving water *** the adsorption and dissociation capabilities of atomic clusters towards water molecules and elucidating the mechanisms underlying their performance enhancement have become important research ***,employing the carrier-anchored strategy,Ru-O-Ru atomic clusters were prepared and displayed excellent activity and durability in the hydrogen evolution ***,the Ru-O-Ru atomic clusters exhibited only 86 mV overpotential at 100 mA·cm−^(2) and superior membrane-electrode-assembly activity than commercial Ru/C *** radiation-based Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic measurements revealed that the modification of oxygen in Ru-O-Ru units promoted the reorientation of water molecules from a H-up orientation to H-down,therefore,enhanced the formation of strong hydrogen-bond network of interfacial water on the surface of Ru-O-Ru clusters,leading to enhanced adsorption and dissociation of water and accelerated Volmer *** findings provide a potential strategy and deep insights for the development of atomic clusters in electrocatalysts.

Feasibility analysis of hypergravity experiment of density-driven convection of dissolved CO

Dissolution trapping is one of the most promising mechanisms for safe geological carbon storage. Density-driven convection substantially accelerates the conversion of free-phase CO2to the dissolved state， enhancing the sequestration safety. Since this process occurs on time scales of hundreds to thousands of years， reproducing it through conventional laboratory physical model tests is challenging. The hypergravity experiment reduces the model size and shortens the experimental time， enabling the modeling of gravity-driven flow processes at the field scale. However， it is uncertain whether the preferential flow effect caused by fractures can be reproduced in a hypergravity experiment. In this study， a three-dimensional discrete fracture-matrix model （3D-DFM） was used to evaluate the feasibility of hypergravity experiment of the transport of dissolved CO2in fractured *** hypergravity tests were performed to examine the feasibility of modeling density-driven convection in homogeneous and heterogeneous media at different centrifuge accelerations. The hypergravity experiment can be used to study density-driven convection of dissolved CO2at the field scale in homogeneous system. The numerical results show that the hypergravity experiment enables a faster breakthrough of plume and overestimates CO2migration in the matrix surrounding the fractures.

Effect on serum metabolomics of rats with premature ovarian insufficiency by Zhibian(BL54) through Shuidao(ST28) acupuncture

OBJECTIVE:To analyze the serum metabolic targets of the"Zhibian(BL54)through Shuidao(ST28)"acupuncture technique in cyclophosphamide(CTX)-induced premature ovarian insufficiency(POI)model rats and to elucidate the potential molecular mechanism of acupuncture in improving ***:We used an intraperitoneal injection of CTX to establish the POI rat model(POI group)and compared serum hormone levels and ovarian histopathological changes to evaluate the effect of the Zhibian(BL54)through Shuidao(ST28)technique(ZS+POI group)on ovarian ***,nontargeted metabolomics was performed using rat serum by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF/MS).RESULTS:After acupuncture intervention,the serum hormone levels and ovarian pathological morphology of POI rats were effectively ***,UPLC-Q-TOF/MS results showed that the ZS+POI group showed a significant reversal of the levels of 6 differential *** them,the levels of four serum metabolic markers,divanillyltetrahydrofuran ferulate,trans-ferulic acid,tryptamine,and neuraminic acid,increased *** analysis of biological effects showed that all metabolites were involved in the regulation of reproductive hormone levels and antioxidant and antiapoptotic ***:The"Zhibian(BL54)through Shuidao(ST28)"acupuncture method may improve the ovarian function of POI rats by regulating serum metabolite markers to exert antioxidant and antiapoptotic effects,which provides a theoretical basis for the clinical application of acupuncture in the treatment of POI.

Development of an ultrathin liquid sheet target for laser ion acceleration at high repetition rates in the kilohertz range

A colliding microjet liquid sheet target system was developed and tested for pairs of round nozzles of 10,11 and 18μm in *** sheet's position stability was found to be better than a few *** interaction with 50 mJ laser pulses,the 18μm jet has a resonance amplitude of 16μm at a repetition rate of 33 Hz,while towards 100 Hz it converges to 10μm for all nozzles.A white-light interferometric system was developed to measure the liquid sheet thickness in the target chamber both in air and in vacuum,with a measurement range of 182 nm±1μm and an accuracy of±3%.The overall shape and 3D shape of the sheet follow the Hasson±Peck model in *** vacuum versus air,the sheet gradually loses 10%of its thickness,so the thinnest sheet achieved was below 200 nm at a vacuum level of 10±4mbar,and remained stable for several hours of operation.

Microstructure and texture evolution of Cu–Cr–Co–Ti alloys during the two-stage cryorolling

This study entailed an investigation of the mechanical properties, microstructural and texture orientation evolutions of CuDCrDCoDTi alloys prepared via twostage cryorolling and intermediate aging treatment. To this end, X-ray diffraction and electron backscatter diffraction were employed. The results indicate that the two-stage cryorolling and intermediate aging treatments led to the development of profuse twin bundles and significantly enhanced the mechanical properties. The initial cryorolling led to coplanar slip and developed a strong Y({111} ) orientation, accelerating the formation of Goss({011} ) orientation and a Brass-type *** intermediate aging treatment relieved the restriction on dislocation slip and reoriented the grains toward the Copper({112} ) and Z({111} ) *** Z orientation, with a relatively high volume fraction,dominated the macrotexture. Secondary cryorolling intensified twinning and shear banding, transforming the Copper-type shear bands into Brass-type shear bands with rhomboidal prism morphology. The areas inside the Brasstype shear bands exhibited a Y orientation, and the areas outside the shear bands exhibited a stable Brass-type texture. The evident decrease in the weighted Schmid factors demonstrated that the two-stage cryorolling and intermediate aging treatment can modify the texture evolution and aid the design of high-performance Cu alloys.

Perovskite solar cell has gained widespread attention as a promising technology for renewable ***, their commercial viability has been hampered by their long-term stability and potential Pb leakage. Herein, we demonstrate a bifunctional passivator of the potassium tartrate(PT) to address both challenges. PT minimizes the Pb leakage in perovskites and also heals cationic vacancy defects, resulting in improved device performance and stability. Benefiting from PT modification, the power conversion efficiency(PCE) is improved to 23.26% and the Pb leakage in unencapsulated films is significantly reduced to 9.79 ppm. Furthermore, the corresponding device exhibits no significant decay in PCE after tracking at the maximum power point(MPP) for 2000 h under illumination(LED source, 100 mW cm^(-2)).

Electrical and nonlinear optical properties of TGZO transparent conducting films deposited by magnetron sputtering

Thin transparent oxide conducting films(TCOFs)of titanium and gallium substituted zinc oxide(TGZO)were fabricated via radio frequency(RF)magnetron sputtering *** effects of RF power on electrical,linear and nonlinear optical characteristics were investigated by Hall tester,Ultraviolet(UV)-visible spectrophotometer and optical characterization *** results indicate that RF power significantly influences the electrical and optical properties of the deposited *** RF power raises,the resistivity and Urbach energy fall initially and then rise,while the figure of merit,mean visible transmittance and optical bandgap show the reverse variation *** RF power of 190 W,the TGZO sample exhibits the highest electro-optical properties,with the maximum figure of merit(1.14×10^(4)Ω-1∙cm^(-1)),mean visible transmittance(86.9%)and optical bandgap(3.50 eV),the minimum resistivity(6.26×10^(-4)Ω∙cm)and Urbach energy(174.23 meV).In addition,the optical constants of the deposited films were determined by the optical spectrum fitting method,and the RF power dependence of nonlinear optical properties was *** is observed that all the thin films exhibit normal dispersion characteristics in the visible region,and the nonlinear optical parameters are greatly affected by the RF power in the ultraviolet region.

Characteristics of the microbial communities regulate soil multi-functionality under different cover crop amendments in Ultisol

The use of cover crops is a promising strategy for influencing the soil microbial consortium,which is essential for the delivery of multiple soil functions(i.e.,soil multifunctionality).Nonetheless,relatively little is known about the role of the soil microbial consortium in mediating soil multifunctionality under different cover crop amendments in dryland ***,we assessed the multifunctionality of soils subjected to four cover crop amendments(control,non-amended treatment;RD,radish monoculture;HV,hairy vetch monoculture;and RDHV,radish-hairy vetch mixture),and we investigated the contributions of soil microbial richness,network complexity,and ecological clusters to soil *** results demonstrated that cover crops whose chemical composition differed from that of the main plant crop promoted higher multifunctionality,and the radish-hairy vetch mixture rendered the highest *** obtained evidence that changes in soil microbial richness and network complexity triggered by the cover crops were associated with higher soil ***,specialized microbes in a key ecological cluster(ecological cluster 2)of the soil microbial network were particularly important for maintaining soil *** results highlight the importance of cover crop-induced variations in functionally important taxa for promoting the soil multifunctionality of dryland Ultisols.
