The investigation by sEM/TEM, porosity, and X-ray diffraction measurements of the graphitization process starting from amorphous carbon nanospheres, prepared by glucose carbonization, is reported. Aspects studied are the annealing temperature in the 750–1000 °C range, the type of inert carrier gas, and time of treatment in the 2–6 h range. It is investigated how these parameters influence the structural and morphological characteristics of the carbon materials obtained as well as their nanostructure. It is shown that it is possible to maintain after graphitization the round-shaped macro morphology, a high surface area and porosity, and especially a large structural disorder in the graphitic layers stacking, with the presence of rather small ordered domains. These are characteristics interesting for various catalytic applications. The key in obtaining these characteristics is the thermal treatment in a flow of N2. It was demonstrated that the use of He rather than N2 does not allow obtaining the same results. The effect is attributed to the presence of traces of oxygen, enough to create the presence of oxygen functional groups on the surface temperatures higher than 750 °C, when graphitization occurs. These oxygen functional groups favor the graphitization process.

Exopolysaccharide produced by Vibrio neocaledonicus sp. as a green corrosion inhibitor:Production and structural characterization

An exopolysaccharide substances produced by Vibrio neocaledonicus sp. was introduced as a novel green inhibitor against the corrosion of carbon steel in artificial seawater and acidic media. The produced extracellular polymeric substance（EPs） is heterogeneous with composition of polysaccharides, nucleic acids and protein and average molecular weight of 29,572 Da. Adsorption of EPs on the metal surfaces and formation of Fe-EPs complexes acted as a barrier to prevent the oxygen penetration and hindered anodic and cathodic reactions. The inhibitory effect increases with increasing EPs concentration and exposure time. The highest corrosion inhibitory effect（95.1%） was observed for 10 g/l of EPs after 5 days of exposure in seawater. This is the highest inhibitory effect ever been reported by EPss. While, the optimum concentration of EPs with the highest inhibition efficiency in 1 N H;sO;was 1000 ppm. The influence of different parameters, such as initial pH, growth phase, various nitrogen and carbon sources on the production of EPs and its corrosion inhibitory effect were also investigated. According to results,the optimum culture medium for EPs production is contained artificial seawater including 5% mannitol as carbon source and 0.1%（NH;）;sO;as nitrogen source at pH = 8. This medium could produce 22.24 g/l EPs during 3 days’ incubation at 30 ℃. The corrosion inhibitory efficiency of obtained EPs was 95.97%.

Effect of the Continuum removal in Predicting soil Organic Carbon with Near Infrared spectroscopy (NIrs) in the senegal sahelian soils

spectroscopy plays a major role in the access of the analytical parameters of the soil. It tends to substitute the conventional laboratory analysis because hyperspectral data were least expensive and easier to obtain. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the continuum removal (Cr) in the validation of the accurate prediction model of the soil properties with Vis-NIr spectroscopy data. Few studies using Vis-NIr reflectance spectroscopy have well focused the calculation of the Cr method;its effect in the calibration of the accurate models was also not well emphasized. In this study, we used the remote sensing software ENVI 4.7 to compute the Cr function where the value of the continuum for each sample and for each spectral wavelength was obtained by dividing the reflectance values of the full spectrum (Fs) with those of the continuum curve (CC). The partial least square regression (Plsr) model was applied in the spectral data from the soil of the senegal sahelian region. It was calibrated with both data from the full spectrum (Fs) and those obtained after the application of the continuum removal. With the application of the Cr, ultraviolet wavelengths (350 - 429 nm) and those of near infrared (2491 - 2500 nm) were removed from the explanatory variables of Plsr model. With the Fs, all wavelengths between 350 and 2500 nm were taken into account in predicting soil properties. Our findings show a positive effect of the application of Cr in the estimation of soil organic carbon. In calibration, the r2 increased up to 10% with the continuum removal in the model of 12 components (CP). In terms of validation, it’s the 15-component model which is the most accurate with the same range in calibration between the Fs and the Cr. The lowest rMsE ranged from 0.04 with the Fs to 0.03 with the application of the Cr in calibration and validation. These results show that the interest of this study as soil organic carbon is recognized as a key indicator of fertility

Intra-seasonal Variability of Aerosols and Their radiative Impacts on sahel Climate during the Period 2000-2010 Using AErONET Data

This paper presents a study using in situ measurements (AErONET data) to characterize the intra-seasonal variability of aerosols and their shortwave radiative impacts on sahel (11N - 18N and 20W - 15E) climate using a long time series (2000 to 2010) from AErONET data. We first used the MIsr aerosol optical depth (AOD) averaged between 2000 and 2010 to identify dust maxima regions. They are mainly located over Eastern Mauritania-Northern Mali and Eastern Niger-Western Tchad (near the Bodele depression). Moreover the aerosol loading is stronger during the spring (MAM) and particularly during the summer (JJA). The analysis of AErONET data at 4 sahelian stations (Dakar, Agoufou, Banizoumbou and Ouagadougou) shows that sahel is under dust influence all year long. The dust season is mainly located between March and October, with two peaks of AOD recorded in March and June;while the maximum of biomass burning activity is recorded in winter (December to February). The radiative forcing of aerosols on the sahelian climate results mainly in a cooling as well as at the surface than at the top of the atmosphere (TOA) but the forcing is stronger at the surface and particularly during the summer (JJA) and spring (MAM) periods. Although there is not a sharp difference between DJF and sON periods from a station to another one when considering the aerosol loading (AOD), the radiative forcing is stronger at the surface and weaker at the TOA during DJF for most stations. The analysis of the force effectiveness (ratio between AOD and the radiative forcing) suggests that the BOA radiative forcing is mainly influenced by the nature of aerosols.

Morphology is of great significance to the performance of organic solar cells(OsCs),since appropriate morphology could not only promote the exciton dissociation,but also reduce the charge *** this work,we have developed a solid additive-assisted layer-by-layer(sAA-lBl)processing to fabricate high-efficiency *** adding the solid additive of fatty acid(FA)into polymer donor PM6 solution,controllable pre-phase separation forms between PM6 and *** intermixed morphology facilitates the diffusion of acceptor Y6 into the donor PM6 during the lBl processing,due to the good miscibility and fast-solvation of the FA with chloroform solution ***,this results in the desired morphology with refined phase-separated domain and vertical phase-separation structure to better balance the charge transport/collection and exciton ***,the binary single junction OsCs based on PM6:Y6 blend reach champion power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 18.16%with sAA-lBl processing,which can be generally applicable to diverse systems,e.g.,the PM6:l8-BO-based devices and thick-film *** efficacy of sAA-lBl is confirmed in binary OsCs based on PM6:l8-BO,where record PCEs of 19.02%and 16.44%are realized for devices with 100 and 250 nm active layers,*** work provides a simple but effective way to control the morphology for high-efficiency OsCs and demonstrates the sAA-lBl processing a promising methodology for boosting the industrial manufacturing of OsCs.

The Archaeoseismology of Historical Buildings： A Model study from the l＇Aquila Area in Italy

Much of Italy is characterised by two features： an increased risk of seismic activity and a profusion of old and historic buildings. These factors force us to consider the relationship between building safety and practices of conservation and protection, and as such have a direct bearing on our approach to preserving the country＇s cultural heritage in general. The guidelines issued on the assessment and reduction of seismic risk to cultural heritage assets in the Prime Ministerial Decree （DPCM） of 9 February 201 l underline the importance of studying such properties in terms of their vulnerability to seismic activity, using ＂factors of confidence＂（FC） to translate the qualitative assessments produced during previous phases into quantitative measurements. In addition to the building survey, which describes the precise three-dimensional form of a structure and the relationships between its constituent parts, a substantial part of our knowledge of a building is provided by stratigraphic analysis of the above-ground elements. similarly, a great deal of useful information can be derived from historical analysis. This paper outlines an archaeoseismological study developed by archaeologists from the University of l＇Aquila and researchers from the ITC-CNr in the same city, which applies a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of historic buildings in areas of seismic activity.

Engineering of electrocatalyst/electrolyte interface for ambient ammonia synthesis

Ammonia is not only an important platform chemical for industrial and agri-cultural use but is also a novel energy-carrying *** electrochemical reduction method for ambient ammonia synthesis is emerging as a promising strategy for the replacement of the current Haber–Bosch ammonia synthesis method,which consumes a large amount of energy and natural gas(hydrogen resource)while releasing substantial greenhouse gases(eg,carbon dioxide).The challenges in electrochemical ammonia synthesis,also known as nitrogen reduc-tion reaction,primarily include the cleavage of extremely stable N≡N bonds and the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction in routine aqueous media,which significantly leads to a low production rate and Faradaic *** ratio-nal design and engineering of the electrocatalyst/electrolyte interface are crucial to address these ***,recent achievements for catalyst/electrolyte interface engineering are reviewed to provide insights into enhancing the pro-duction rate and Faradaic *** on future research and devel-opment of the electrochemical ammonia synthesis from theory to practice will be provided.
