Encouraging and astonishing developments have recently been achieved in image-based diagnostic *** medical care and imaging technology are becoming increasingly ***,the current diagnosis pattern of signal to image to knowledge inevitably leads to information distortion and noise introduction in the procedure of image reconstruction(from signal to image).Artificial intelligence(AI)technologies that can mine knowledge from vast amounts of data offer opportunities to disrupt established *** this prospective study,for the first time,we develop an AI-based signal-toknowledge diagnostic scheme for lung nodule classification directly from the computed tomography(CT)raw data(the signal).We find that the raw data achieves almost comparable performance with CT,indicating that it is possible to diagnose diseases without reconstructing ***,the incorporation of raw data through three common convolutional network structures greatly improves the performance of the CT models in all cohorts(with a gain ranging from 0.01 to 0.12),demonstrating that raw data contains diagnostic information that CT does not *** results break new ground and demonstrate the potential for direct signal-to-knowledge domain analysis.

GPU accelerated simplified harmonic spherical approximation equations for three-dimensional optical imaging

Simplified spherical harmonics approximation （SPN） equations are widely used in modeling light propagation in biological tissues. However, with the increase of order N, its computational burden will severely aggravate. We propose a graphics processing unit （GPU） accelerated framework for SPN equations. Compared with the conven- tional central processing unit implementation, an increased performance of the GPU framework is obtained with an increase in mesh size, with the best speed-up ratio of 25 among the studied cases. The influence of thread distribution on the performance of the GPU framework is also investigated.

Early diagnosis and bioimaging of lung adenocarcinoma cells/organs based on spectroscopy machine learning

Early diagnosis and fast detection with a high accuracy rate of lung cancer are important to improve the treatment *** this research,an early fast diagnosis and in vivo imaging method for lung adenocarcinoma are proposed by collecting the spectral data from normal and patients'cells/tissues,such as Fourier infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),UV-vis absorbance,and fluorescence spectra using *** FTIR spectra of human normal lung epithelial cells(BEAS-2B cells)and human lung adenocarcinoma cells(A549 cells)were *** the data is cleaned,a feature selection algorithm is used to select important wavelengths,and then,the classification models of support vector machine(SVM)and the grid search method are used to select the optimal model parameters(accuracy:96.89%on the training set and 88.57%on the test set).The optimal model is used to classify all samples,and the accuracy is 94.37%.Moreover,the anthocyanin was prepared and used for the intracellular absorbance and fluorescence,and the optimized algorithm was used for classification(accuracy:91.38%on the training set and 80.77%on the test set).Most importantly,the in vivo cancer imaging can be performed using *** results show that there are differences between lung ade-nocarcinoma and normal lung tissues at the molecular level,reflecting the accuracy,intui-tiveness,and feasibility of this algorithm-assistant anthocyanin imaging in lung cancer diagnosis,thus showing the potential to become an accurate and effective technical means for basic research and clinical diagnosis.

Antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate part of Abrus cantoniensis against Staphylococcus aureus

Objective:The aim of this work was to measure the antibacterial activity(against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus[***])of the ethyl acetate part of Abrus cantoniensis and assess their potential as ***:The experiment was divided into four groups:negative control group[with Mueller-Hinton broth(MHB)],positive control group(with 75%ethanol),blank group(with MHB)and test group(with the ethyl acetate part of Abrus cantoniensis).The antibacterial activities of the extracts were evaluated by the Oxford cup assay and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC).Time-kill curve experiments,scanning electron microscopy,the content of DNA,RNA and protein were used to study the antibacterial mechanism of the ethyl acetate extract part on the growth and viability of *** study procedures were approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee of Xi’an Jiaotong university(approval ***2016-412)on January 22,***:The ethyl acetate part of Abrus cantoniensis extract exhibited the highest inhibitory activity against the growth of *** with an inhibition zone diameter of 16.4mm and MIC value of 0.5mg/*** general activity range of the ethyl acetate part,determined using a time-killing curve,was found to be 0.5mg/mL to 40mg/mL(MIC to 80MIC).Changes in the scanning electron microscopy images and of DNA,RNA and proteins of *** indicated possible mechanisms of the inhibitory activity of the ethyl acetate ***:The ethyl acetate part of Abrus cantoniensis damaged bacterial cell structures,which results in protoplasm leakage,and eventually bacterial cell death.

Comparative evaluations of the Monte Carlo-based light propagation simulation packages for optical imaging

Monte Carlo simulation of light propagation in turbid medium has been studied for years.A number of software packages have been developed to handle with such ***,it is hard to compare these simulation packages,especially for tissues with complex heterogeneous ***,we first designed a group of mesh datasets generated by Iso2Mesh software,and used them to cross-validate the accuracy and to evaluate the performance of four Monte Carlo-based simulation packages,including Monte Carlo model of steady-state light transport in multi-layered tissues(MCML),tetrahedron-based inhomogeneous Monte Carlo optical simulator(TIMOS),molecular Optical Simulation Environment(MOSE),and Mesh-based Monte Carlo(MMC).The performance of each package was evaluated based on the designed mesh *** merits and demerits of each package were also *** results showed that the TIMOS package provided the best performance,which proved to be a reliable,efficient,and stable MC simulation package for users.

Electroacupuncture Stimulation of Language-Implicated Acupoint Tongli(HT 5) in Healthy Subjects: An fMRI Evaluation Study

Objective： To explore brain activations associated with electroacupuncture simulation at Tongli（HT 5） and its comparison with brain activations during picture-naming task. Methods： Twenty healthy subjects were enrolled in this study. Half of them received electroacupuncture stimulation at HT 5（ACUP group） and the other half of them received stimulation at a nonmeridian sham acupoint（SHAM group）. All subjects performed picture-naming task. Each subject finished two runs of functional magnetic resonance imaging examinations in one session and picture-naming task was performed before electroacupuncture stimulation. Subjective brain activations were obtained using generalized linear model and inter-group analyses were performed after that. Results： The electroacupuncture stimulation at HT 5 induced significant brain activations in both the anterior and posterior language regions, including the left inferior frontal gyrus, which was in consistent with activations induced during picture-naming task. Group analysis showed a tendency of increased activation of ACUP group in left inferior frontal gyrus compared with SHAM group（P〈0.05 FDR corrected）. Conclusions： Electroacupuncture treatment at the acupoint HT 5 has modulation effect on typical language-implicated brain regions in healthy subjects, which provides supporting evidence for beneficial effects of needling at HT 5 for recovery of language function in aphasia.

Near-infrared Ⅱ(NIR-Ⅱ)fluorescent nanoprobes hold great potential for biomedical *** the relationship between surface properties of NIR-Ⅱ nanoprobes and their biological behaviors is particularly important for future probe design and their performance *** the rapid development of NIR-Ⅱ nanoprobes,the distinct role of surface chirality on their biological fates has rarely been ***,chiral NIR-Ⅱ fluorescent Ag_(2)S quantum dots(QDs)are synthesized to investigate the relationship between their chirality and biological functions at both in vitro and in vivo levels.D-/L-Ag_(2)S QDs exhibit significant differences on their interactions with serum proteins,which further affect the cellular *** a result,D-Ag_(2)S QDs can be internalized with higher efficiency(over 2-fold)than that of L-Ag_(2)S ***,in vivo studies reveal that the chirality determines the primary localization of these chiral QDs,where a more efficient renal elimination of D-Ag_(2)S QDs was observed than that of L-Ag_(2)S ***,D-Ag_(2)S QDs show preferential accumulation in tumor region than that of L-Ag_(2)S QDs in orthotopic kidney tumor model,which points out a new avenue of enhancing targeting capabilities of nanoprobes by engineering their surface chirality.

Stimulated Raman scattering signal generation in a scattering medium using self-reconstructing Bessel beams

Scattering is a huge challenge for microscopic ***,it is difficult to observe target chemicals in scattering media by means of the current Gaussian beam-based stimulated Raman scattering(SRS)microscopy,since the tight focus of the Gaussian beam is destroyed after propagating through a certain *** beams,featuring self-reconstructing property,may bring a solution to this *** combining Bessel beams with SRS microscopy,we can probe the SRS signal from a scattering *** this paper,using the beam propagation method,we first simulate the propagation of the Bessel beam as well as the generation and self-reconstruction of SRS *** adding glass beads along the beam propagation path in order to simulate scattering,the propagation of the Bessel beams and the generation of the SRS signals will ***,we design a series of simulations to investigate the influence of the size,position,number,and distribution of the added glass beads on the generation of the SRS signals.A preliminary experiment is also carried out to confirm the simulation *** demonstrate that the SRS signals can be generated or be recovered at a certain depth in scattering media,and that such signals are greatly affected by the parameters of the scatters.
