Hepatic ischemia–reperfusion(IR)injury is a serious clinical problem that complicates liver resection and *** recent advances in understanding of the pathophysiology of hepatic IR injury,effective interventions and therapeutics are still ***,we examined the role of transient receptor potential melastatin 2(TRPM2),a Ca^(2+)-permeable,non-selective cation channel,in mediating hepatic IR *** data showed that TRPM2 deficiency attenuated IR-induced liver dysfunction,inflammation,and cell death in ***,RNA sequencing analysis indicated that TRPM2-induced IR injury occurs via ferroptosis-related ***,as a ferroptosis inducer,(1S,3R)-RSL3 treatment induced mitochondrial dysfunction in hepatocytes and a TRPM2 inhibitor suppressed ***,TRPM2-mediated calcium influx caused mitochondrial calcium accumulation via the mitochondrial Ca^(2+)-selective uniporter and increased the expression level of arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase(ALOX12),which results in mitochondrial lipid peroxidation during hepatic IR ***,hepatic IR injury-induced ferroptosis was obviously relieved by a TRPM2 inhibitor or calcium depletion,both in vitro and in ***,these findings demonstrate a crucial role for TRPM2-mediated ferroptosis in hepatic IR injury via increased Ca^(2+)-induced ALOX12 expression,indicating that pharmacological inhibition of TRPM2 may provide an effective therapeutic strategy for hepatic IR injury-related diseases,such as during liver resection and transplantation.

Advances in isolation and detection of circulating tumor cells based on microfluidics

Circulating tumor cells(CTCs) are the cancer cells that circulate in the peripheral blood after escaping from the original or metastatic tumors. CTCs could be used as non-invasive source of clinical information in early diagnosis of cancer and evaluation of cancer development. In recent years, CTC research has become a hotspot field wherein many novel CTC detection technologies based on microfluidics have been developed. Great advances have been made that exhibit obvious technical advantages, but cannot yet satisfy the current clinical requirements. In this study, we review the main advances in isolation and detection methods of CTC based on microfluidics research over several years, propose five technical indicators for evaluating these methods, and explore the application prospects. We also discuss the concepts, issues, approaches, advantages, limitations, and challenges with an aim of stimulating a broader interest in developing microfluidics-based CTC detection technology.

Beam combination setup for dual-frequency laser with orthogonal linear polarization

A beam combination setup for a dual-frequency laser with orthogonal linear polarization is proposed. It consists of two polarizing beam splitters（PBSs） whose polarization axes are orthogonal to each other. A theoretical analysis demonstrates that a combined dual-frequency laser beam with this setup strictly meets orthogonal linear relation. The experimental results show that compared with the conventional setup, the ellipticity and nonorthogonality of the combined dual-frequency laser beam are significantly reduced.

Hybrid supraparticles of carbon dots/porphyrin for multifunctional tongue-mimic sensors

Supraparticles(SPs),such as assembly of inorganic components with organic,have made tremendous attention in biochemical analysis,which represents a novel but challenging research ***,a single-SPs multifunctional fluorescent sensor array has been developed for high-throughput detection of heavy metal ions in biofluids,which is based on an inorganic/organic hybrid SPs consisting of carbon dots(CDs)and an easily available porphyrin[5,10,15,20-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin(TCPP)].TCPP can aggregate with the CDs to form the assembly(CDs/TCPP SPs)through the electrostatic andπ-πstacking *** are two independent and clearly separated fluorescence emission peaks at 470 and 668 nm in the resultant CDs/TCPP SPs under 380 nm *** a proof-of concept design,F 470,F 668,F 668/F 470 of SPs are chosen as three sensor components to constitute our sensor *** the addi-tion of metal ions,three sensor components can generate different fluorescence response patterns for discriminating 11 heavy metal ions via principal component analysis(PCA).Additionally,thiols can read-ily capture Cu^(2+)to switch the fluorescence of CDs/TCPP initially altered by Cu^(2+).Hence,CDs/TCPP-Cu^(2+)ensemble is further demonstrated to be a powerful sensor array for pattern recognition of 7 thiols and even chiral recognition of cysteine *** novel strategy avoids the tanglesome synthesis of multiple sensing probes and dedicates an innovative method for the facile establishment of tongue-mimic sensors,which would prospectively sprout more homologous assumptions to broaden its application toward more biosensing fields.

Particle Filter and Its Application in the Integrated Train Speed Measurement

Particle filter(PF) can solve the problem of state estimation under strong non-linear non-Gaussian noise condition with respect to traditional Kalman filter(KF) and those improved KFs such as extended KF(EKF) and unscented KF(UKF). However, problems such as particle depletion and particle degradation affect the performance of PF. Optimizing the particle set to high likelihood region with intelligent optimization algorithm results in a more reasonable distribution of the sampling particles and more accurate state estimation. In this paper, a novel bird swarm algorithm based PF(BSAPF) is presented. Firstly, different behavior models are established by emulating the predation, flight, vigilance and follower behavior of the birds. Then, the observation information is introduced into the optimization process of the proposal distribution with the design of fitness function. In order to prevent particles from getting premature(being stuck into local optimum) and increase the diversity of particles, Lévy flight is designed to increase the randomness of particle's movement. Finally,the proposed algorithm is applied to estimate the speed of the train under the condition that the measurement noise of the wheel sensor is non-Gaussian distribution. Simulation study and experimental results both show that BSAPF is more accurate and has more effective particle number as compared with PF and UKF, demonstrating the promising performance of the method.

Delta-doped quantum wire tunnel junction for highly concentrated solar cells

We propose a novel structure for tunnel junction based on delta-doped AlGaAs/GaAs quantum wires. Higher spatial confinement of quantum wires alongside the increased effective doping concentration in the delta-doped regions extremely increase the peak tunneling current and enhance the performance of tunnel junction. The proposed structure can be used as tunnel junction in the multijunction solar cells under the highest possible thermodynamically limited solar *** combination of the quantum wire with the delta-doped structure can be of benefit to the solar cells' advantages including higher number of sub-bands and high degeneracy. Simulation results show a voltage drop of 40 mV due to the proposed tunnel junction used in a multijunction solar cell which presents an extremely low resistance to the achieved peak tunneling current.

Exploitation of geometric and propagation phases for spin-dependent rational-multiple complete phase modulation using dielectric metasurfaces

Metasurfaces have drawn considerable attention in manipulation of electromagnetic waves due to their exotic subwavelength footprints. Regardless of immense progress of polarization-dependent flat optics, the realization of on-device switchable complete phase multiplication is still missing from design multifunctional devices. Here,by combining geometric and propagation phases, a generalized design principle is proposed that can achieve switchable integer or fractional multiple complete phase modulation in transmitted circularly cross-polarized light by switching the handedness of incident polarization. As a proof of concept, two types of spin-dependent bifunctional wavefront manipulating devices, including switchable beam splitter/beam deflector and spinto-orbital angular momentum converter designs are numerically realized. It is believed that the proposed single-cell spin-switchable rational-multiple complete-phase-modulation design principle based on combined propagation and geometric phases has great potential to underpin the development of meta-optics-based multifunctional operations in the field of integrated optics, imaging, and optical communication.

Influence of the Hole Chamfer on the Characteristics of a Multi-hole Orifice Flowmeter

In order to analyze the influence of the hole chamfer on the metering performances of a Multi-hole Orifice Flowmeter and optimize the related orifice structure,a multi-hole orifice flowmeter with DN80 and throttle ratio of 0.45 was considered in the present *** flow field characteristics were determined in the framework of a CFD *** results show that the multi-hole orifice flowmeter with filleting transition around the throttle orifice has higher accuracy in a wide range of the space of parameters,and is more suitable for accurate measurement of fluid in process control.
