Background:The accuracy of using total keratometry(TK)value in recent IOL power calculation formulas in highly myopic eyes remained ***:Highly myopic patients who underwent uneventful cataract surgery were prospectively enrolled in this prospective comparative *** one month postoperatively,standard deviation(SD)of the prediction errors(PEs),mean and median absolute error(MedAE)of 103 highly myopic eyes were back-calculated and compared among ten formulas,including XGboost,RBF 3.0,Kane,Barrett Universal II,emmetropia Verifying Optical 2.0,Cooke K6,Haigis,SRK/T,and Wang-Koch modifications of Haigis and SRK/T formulas,using either TK or standard keratometry(K)***:In highly myopic eyes,despite good agreement between TK and K(P>0.05),larger differences between the two were associated with smaller central corneal thickness(P0.05),which both presented smaller MedAEs than others(all Peyes within±0.50 D or±0.75 D of PE,the XGBoost TK showed comparable percentages with the RBF 3.0 TK formula(74.76%vs.66.99%,or 90.29%vs.87.38%,P>0.05),and statistically larger percentages than the other eight formulas(Peyes with thinner corneas tend to have larger differences between TK and *** XGboost enhancement calculator and RBF 3.0 formula using TK showed the most promising outcomes in highly myopic eyes.

Background:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of an approach that combines corneal customized transepithelial therapeutic ablation to treat irregular corneal optics and accelerated corneal collagen cross-linking(CXL)to strengthen the corneal tissue and stop the progression of *** transepithelial therapeutic ablation applied a novel concept named central corneal regularization(CCR)which could correct the corneal morphological irregularities and the eye’s spherocylindrical refractive error with minimal stromal tissue ***:Retrospective *** that underwent CCR combined with CXL were evaluated preoperatively and up to 12 months postoperatively for visual acuity,subjective refraction,corneal haze,pachymetry and maximum keratometry(Kmax).Results:Twenty four eyes of 24 patients with a mean age of 28.92±9.88 years were *** mean spherical equivalent(SE)refractive error changed from−0.74±1.17 D preoperatively to−1.05±1.52 D at 12 months *** mean uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA)and corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA)*** eye lost lines of CDVA,21 had a mean improvement of 3.21 *** mean cylinder error and Kmax value dropped from−3.06±1.83 D and 51.38±3.29 D to−1.04±0.80 D and 48.70±2.58 D,*** mean haze score at 3,6 and 12 months was 0.56,0.19 and 0.06,***:CCR combined with CXL offers promising results as a safe and effective treatment in keratoconic patients.

Residual refractive errors in pseudophakic eyes and related factors:a population-based study

AIM: To determine residual refractive error after cataract surgery in pseudophakic eyes and its relationship with age, sex, and axial length(AL).METHODS: In this population-based cross-sectional study, the sampling was performed on individuals aged 60y and above in Tehran, Iran using a multi-stage stratified random cluster sampling method. Pseudophakic eyes with a best-corrected visual acuity of 20/32 or better were analyzed and their refractive results were ***: The mean spherical equivalent(SE) refraction was-0.34±0.97 diopters(D) and the mean absolute SE was 0.72±0.74 D with a median of 0.5 D. Moreover, 32.68%(n=546, 95%CI: 30.27%-35.08%), 53.67%(n=900, 95%CI: 51.23%-56.1%), 68.99%(n=1157, 95%CI: 66.96%-71.02%), and 79.73%(n=1337, 95%CI: 77.69%-81.76%) of the eyes had a residual SE within ±0.25, ±0.50, ±0.75, and ±1.00 D of emmetropia, respectively. According to the multiple logistic regression model, increasing age was associated with a statistically significant decrease in predictability for all cut points. Moreover, the predictability based on all cut points was significantly lower in individuals with an AL longer than 24.5 mm than in those with an AL between 22 to 24.5 ***: Based on the results, the accuracy of intraocular lens(IOL) power calculation is lower for those who underwent cataract surgery during the last 5y in Tehran, Iran. Among the most important influential factors, the choice of IOL or it's power disproportionate to eye conditions and age can be mentioned.

AIM: To evaluate related factors with the change of spherical equivalents(ΔSE) and determine the suitable predictor of clinically significant ΔSE(≥0.50 D) with cyclopentolate hydrochloride on Chinese children. METHODS: A total of 145 right eyes of 145 children aged 4 to 15 y were enrolled. Intraocular pressure, axial length and lag of accommodation(LOA) were assessed before cycloplegia induced by 3 drops of 1% cyclopentolate at 5-minute intervals. SE was measured before and 1 h after the first drop of cyclopentolate. ΔSE was compared between different gender groups and among refractive groups. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to find related factors with ΔSE. ROC analysis was used to figure out the suitable predictor of clinically significant Δ***: For the total 145 eyes, the mean SE reached up to-0.70±1.86 D from-1.30±1.62 D, with the mean ΔSE of 0.60±0.55 D. The mean ΔSE were 0.63±0.55 D and 0.57±0.56 D respectively in the male and female group(P=0.40). The mean ΔSE was significantly different among different refractive groups(Pemmetropia(0.56±0.43 D, P=0.001) and myopia group(0.32±0.28 D, P<0.0001). The ΔSE was correlated with LOA(B=-0.54, P<0.0001), cycloplegic SE(B=0.10, P<0.0001) and age(B=-0.04, P=0.015). ROC curve indicated that LOA predicted clinically significant ΔSE by 82% [area under the curve(AUC)=0.82] alone, while the value was slightly improved to 85%(AUC=0.85) in combination with axial length and 86%(AUC=0.86) in association with axial length as well as ***: After cycloplegia with cyclopentolate, the ΔSE decreases with larger LOA, longer axial length and older age. Specifically, LOA plays a more vital role in predicting clinically significant ΔSE.

The Spectrum of <i>ROBO</i>3 Mutations in Horizontal Gaze Palsy with Progressive Scoliosis: An Update

Horizontal Gaze Palsy with Progressive Scoliosis is a rare, congenital autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the ROBO3 gene. It is characterized by the absence of conjugate horizontal eye movements with preserved vertical gaze, variable convergence, and progressive scoliosis, developing in childhood and adolescence. ROBO3 gene mutations are causative of the lack, or at least reduction, of crossing of the descending corticospinal and ascending lemniscal sensory tracts in the medulla. To date, 39 different mutations, including missense, nonsense, frameshift, and splice site mutations have been described in the ROBO3 gene and related to Horizontal Gaze Palsy With Progressive Scoliosis. In addition, a lot of variants of uncertain pathological significance have been reported for the first time by Illumina Clinical Services. Here we report an update on mutations of the ROBO3 gene and some information on the pathogenesis but much remains to be investigated on the consequences of mutations on ROBO3 expression and function. Therefore, further detailed functional analyses are necessary to clarify a possible role of the variants of uncertain pathological significance as the cause of the disease. In conclusion, we hope that this article will help in molecular screening for the ROBO3 gene and will contribute to enlargement of the ROBO3 gene variation database.

AIM:To assess the refractive outcome of clear lensectomy combined with piggyback intraocular lens implantation in highly hyperopic ***:This case review included 19 eyes of 10 patients with high hyperopia and axial length less than *** lens power was calculated for emmetropia using the Holladay II formula in 17 eyes,and SRK/T formula in 2 eyes following clear lens extraction and piggyback intraocular lens *** were examined periodically over 24 months for visual acuity and spherical equivalent(SE).RESULTS:The mean postoperative SE at 24 months was 0.20±1.39D(range,-3.00 to 2.50D),better than preoperative 9.81±2.62D(range,+6.00 to +14.50D)(Peyes had SE within±0.5D of emmetropia and 11 eyes within±1.00D at postoperative 24 *** mean postoperative uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA) at 24 months was 0.60±0.36,significantly improved compared to preoperative 1.39±0.33(Peyes maintained and 1 gained 1 or more Snellen line of BCVA,4 eyes lost 1 line,and 2 eyes lost 2 lines at 24 postoperative *** eyes best-corrected near visual acuity (BCNVA) achieved J1 at postoperative 24 months compared to preoperative 7 eyes and the other 7 eyes better than ***:Clearlensextractioncombinedpiggyback intraocular lens implantation appears to be an effective procedure to correct high hyperopia but mild overcorrection and intralenticular opacification may require secondary procedure.
