BACKGROUND: The differential diagnosis between depressive pseudodementia and Alzheimer disease (AD) is a clinical problem, and it is more difficult to diagnose depression in AD. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the incidence and characters of depression in AD patients, and investigate the correlative factors. DESIGN: A randomized controlled study. SETTING: Beijing Geriatrics Hospital. PARTICIPANTS: From October 2005 to July 2006, 34 patients with probable AD were selected from the Department of Dementia, Beijing Geriatrics Hospital according to National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Diseases and Stroke/Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders Association (NINCDS-ADRDA) criteria for AD. There were 16 males and 18 females, aged 63-85 years. Meanwhile, 30 patients with other chronic neurological disorders (CND) were selected from our hospital as the CND control group, there were 16 males and 14 females, aged 55-85 years, including 18 cases of cerebrovascular sequela, 9 of Parkinson disease and 3 of migraineurs. Another 30 patients with chronic physical diseases (CPD) were enrolled as the CPD control group, there were 15 males and 15 females, aged 57-83 years, including 15 cases of chronic bronchitis, 8 of hypertension and 7 of diabetes mellitus. Besides, 30 physical examinees were enrolled as the healthy control group, including 15 males and 15 females, aged 55-80 years. All the subjects were informed and agreed with the detection. METHODS: ① All the subjects underwent the Hamilton rating scale for depression (HAMD) (24 items) assessment, and the total score < 8 points was regarded as no depression, 8-20 as mild depression, 20-35 as moderate depression, ≥ 35 as severe depression. ② All the AD patients were assessed with Cornell scale for depression in dementia (CSDD) (19 items), and the total score < 8 points was regarded as no depression, and ≥ 8 as depression. The Roles of Female Involvement and Risk Aversion in Open Access Publishing Patterns in Vietnamese Social Sciences and Humanities

Purpose:The open-access(OA)publishing model can help improve researchers’outreach,thanks to its accessibility and visibility to the ***,the presentation of female researchers can benefit from the O A publishing *** that,little is known about how gender affects OA ***,the current study explores the effects of female involvement and risk aversion on OA publishing patterns among Vietname se social sciences and ***/methodology/approach:The study employed Bayesian Mindsponge Framework(BMF)on a dataset of 3,122 Vietnamese social sciences and humanities(SS&H)publications during *** Mindsponge mechanism was specifically used to construct theoretical models,while Bayesian inference was utilized for fitting ***:The result showed a positive association between female participation and OA publishing ***,the positive effect of female involvement on OA publishing probability was negated by the high ratio of female researchers in a *** status was negatively associated with the JIF of the journal in which the publication was published,but the relationship was moderated by the involvement of a female researcher(s).The findings suggested that Vietnamese female researchers might be more likely to publish under the OA model in journals with high JIF for avoiding the risk of public *** limitations:The study could only provide evidence on the association between female involvement and OA publishing ***,whether to publish under OA terms is often determined by the first or corresponding authors,but not necessarily *** implications:Systematically coordinated actions are suggested to better support women and promote the OA movement in ***/value:The findings show the OA publishing patterns of female researchers in Vietnamese SS&H.

Meningeal lymphatic vessel crosstalk with central nervous system immune cells in aging and neurodegenerative diseases

Meningeal lymphatic vessels form a relationship between the nervous system and periphery, which is relevant in both health and disease. Meningeal lymphatic vessels not only play a key role in the drainage of brain metabolites but also contribute to antigen delivery and immune cell activation. The advent of novel genomic technologies has enabled rapid progress in the characterization of myeloid and lymphoid cells and their interactions with meningeal lymphatic vessels within the central nervous system. In this review, we provide an overview of the multifaceted roles of meningeal lymphatic vessels within the context of the central nervous system immune network, highlighting recent discoveries on the immunological niche provided by meningeal lymphatic vessels. Furthermore, we delve into the mechanisms of crosstalk between meningeal lymphatic vessels and immune cells in the central nervous system under both homeostatic conditions and neurodegenerative diseases, discussing how these interactions shape the pathological outcomes. Regulation of meningeal lymphatic vessel function and structure can influence lymphatic drainage, cerebrospinal fluid-borne immune modulators, and immune cell populations in aging and neurodegenerative disorders, thereby playing a key role in shaping meningeal and brain parenchyma immunity.

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by deposition of amyloid-β,which forms extracellular neuritic plaques,and accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau,which aggregates to form intraneuronal neurofibrillary tangles,in the *** NLRP3 inflammasome may play a role in the transition from amyloid-βdeposition to tau phosphorylation and *** NLRP3 is primarily found in brain microglia,and tau is predominantly located in neurons,it has been suggested that NLRP3 expressed by microglia indirectly triggers tau phosphorylation by upregulating the expression of pro-inflammatory ***,we found that neurons also express NLRP3 in vitro and in vivo,and that neuronal NLRP3 regulates tau *** biochemical methods,we mapped the minimal NLRP3 promoter and identified FUBP3 as a transcription factor regulating NLRP3 expression in *** primary neurons and the neuroblastoma cell line Neuro2A,FUBP3 is required for endogenous NLRP3 expression and tau phosphorylation only when amyloid-βis *** the brains of aged wild-type mice and a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease,FUBP3 expression was markedly increased in cortical *** analysis suggested that FUBP3 plays a role in neuron-mediated immune *** also found that FUBP3 trimmed the 5′end of DNA fragments that it bound,implying that FUBP3 functions in stress-induced *** findings suggest that neuronal NLRP3 may be more directly involved in the amyloid-β-to–phospho-tau transition than microglial NLRP3,and that amyloid-βfundamentally alters the regulatory mechanism of NLRP3 expression in *** that FUBP3 was only expressed at low levels in young wild-type mice and was strongly upregulated in the brains of aged mice and Alzheimer's disease mice,FUBP3 could be a safe therapeutic target for preventing Alzheimer's disease progression.

Prospective study of the effect of ERAS on postoperative recovery and complications in patients with gastric cancer

Objective:To study the efficacy of the enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)program on postoperative recovery and complications in patients with gastric ***:Eighty patients in the perioperative period with radical gastrectomy were enrolled and randomly divided into 2 groups,the ERAS group and the non-ERAS *** differences between the 2 groups in terms of postoperative recoveries and complications rate were *** to the body mass index(BMI)level,the ERAS group was divided into 2 subgroups,namely group A(BMI<28 kg/m2,n=16)and group B(BMI≥28 kg/m2,n=24).The non-ERAS group was also divided into group C(BMI<28 kg/m2,n=18)and group D(BMI≥28 kg/m2,n=22).The recovery and complications of each group were then ***:The postoperative length of stay and visual analogue scale pain score were less in the ERAS group than the non-ERAS group(P<0.05).Time to first postoperative exhaustion,first postoperative defecation,returning leukocyte count to normal,and stopping intravenous nutrition were significantly shorter in the ERAS group(n=40),compared to the non-ERAS group(n=40,all P<0.05).The incidence of postoperative lower extremity intramuscular venous thrombosis was significantly higher in group D than in group B(χ2=4.800,P=0.028).In addition,the incidence of lower extremity intermuscular venous thrombosis and lung infection in group D was higher than those in other ***:The perioperative ERAS program was associated with faster recovery in patients undergoing radical *** patients with higher BMI(BMI≥28 kg/m2),the use of the perioperative ERAS program was more advantageous.

Five-CpG-based prognostic signature for predicting survival in hepatocellular carcinoma patients

Objective:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a common malignancy associated with high morbidity and mortality rates *** diagnosis plays an important role in the improvement of HCC ***:In this study,we conducted a comprehensive analysis of HCC DNA methylation and gene expression datasets in The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA),to identify a prognostic signature for HCC diagnosis and survival ***,we identified differential methylation CpG(dmCpG)sites in HCC samples and compared them with those in adjacent normal liver tissues;this was followed by univariate analysis and Sure Independence Screening(SIS)in the training *** robustness of the identified prognostic signature was evaluated using the testing *** explore the biological processes involved in HCC progression,we also performed functional enrichment analysis for overlapping genes between genes containing dmCpG sites(DMGs)and differential expression genes(DEGs)in HCC patients,using data from the Database for Annotation,Visualization,and Integrated Discovery(DAVID).Results:As a result,we identified five CpG sites that were significantly associated with HCC survival through univariate analysis and *** analysis of clinical characteristics identified age and risk factors(including alcohol consumption and smoking)as independent factors that indicated HCC *** analysis indicated that the integrated prognostic signature(weighted combination of the five CpG sites)that took age and risk factors into consideration resulted in more accurate survival ***:This study provides a novel signature for predicting HCC survival,and should be helpful for early HCC diagnosis and personalized treatment.

The N-formyl peptide receptors: contemporary roles in neuronal function and dysfunction

N-formyl peptide receptors(FPRs)were first identified upon phagocytic leukocytes,but more than four decades of research has unearthed a plethora of non-myeloid roles for this receptor *** are expressed within neuronal tissues and markedly in the central nervous system,where FPR interactions with endogenous ligands have been implicated in the pathophysiology of several neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease,as well as neurological cancers such as *** the homeostatic function of FPRs in the nervous system is currently undefined,a variety of novel physiological roles for this receptor family in the neuronal context have been posited in both human and animal *** developments in recent years have implicated FPRs in the process of neurogenesis and neuronal differentiation which,upon greater characterisation,could represent a novel pharmacological target for neuronal regeneration therapies that may be used in the treatment of brain/spinal cord injury,stroke and *** review aims to summarize the recent progress made to determine the physiological role of FPRs in a neuronal setting,and to put forward a case for FPRs as a novel pharmacological target for conditions of the nervous system,and for their potential to open the door to novel neuronal regeneration therapies.

Recent research on vasectomy techniques

Vasectomy is a commonly used, highly effective method for the control of fertility in the human male. It is almost always performed as an outpatient procedure, is safer than tubal occlusion and has few side effects. The number of people relying on vasectomy as a method of contraception varies widely from country to country. Though vasectomy is highly effective, failures may occur due to re-canalization of the vas, surgical error, anatomical variants or failure of contraception during the post-operative waiting period. One of the disadvantages of this technique is that sperm are present in the posterior end of the vas following surgery and hence patients have to use alternative methods of contraception for a waiting period of 12 weeks to 15 weeks before relying on a vasectomy for contraception. This review summarizes recent research on vasectomy conducted by Family Health International, USA.
