Methane adsorption effected by pore structure of overmature continental shale:Lower Cretaceous Shahezi Formation,Xujiaweizi Fault,Songliao Basin

Overmature continental shale is commonly developed,but few studies have given insight into its pore structure and sorption *** techniques,including SEM,helium porosity and permeability,N_(2)/CO_(2)adsorption,MICP,and NMR,were used to detect the pore structure of shale from the Shahezi Formation,Xujiaweizi Fault,Songliao *** excess methane adsorption volumes were measured by the volumetric method and modeled by the Langmuir *** on the findings,the most developed pores are intraparticle pores in clay minerals,followed by the dissolution pores in feldspar,but organic pores are *** selected shales have low helium porosity(mean 1.66%)and ultralow permeability(mean 0.0498×10^(−3)μm^(2)).The pore throats are at the nanoscale,and the pore-throat size distributions are unimodal,with most less than 50 *** studied shales are characterized by the lower specific surface area(SSA)and pore volume(PV)but the larger average pore *** total SSA is contributed by the micro-and mesopores,while the PV is dominated by meso-and *** pore structures are more complex and controlled by multiple factors,such as mineral compositions and diagenesis,but organic matter is not *** maximum absolute adsorption methane volume(VL)is 0.97−3.58 cm^(3)/g(mean 1.90 cm^(3)/g),correlating well with the total SSA,SSA,and pore volume of micropores,which indicates that methane is mainly adsorbed and stored in micropores,followed by mesopores.

Offshore high-grade limemud resources of west coast of India:Economic potential and industrial applications

Limestone is one of the essential raw materials in the cement,paint,steel,ceramic,glass,chemical,pharmaceutical,paper,and fertilizer *** India,only 8%of the limestone resources are placed under the reserve category,of which 97%is of cement ***,India depends on imports to bridge the demand‐supply gap of steel,blast furnace,and chemical‐grade *** of Geological Survey of India(GSI)to locate alternate sources for limestone led to the discovery of enormous quantities of carbonate minerals called limemud from the continental shelf margin of the west coast of *** carried out systematic studies to explore the nature of the disposition,quality,quantity,and suitability of the offshore limemud for various industrial applications.A preliminary estimate of resources using high‐resolution subbottom profiling and sediment core sample studies established the occurrence of more than 172 billion tonnes of high‐grade(The content of CaCO3 is greater than 80 wt%)limemud in 0.4–28.0m thick stratified sediment layers spread over an area of 18000 ***,physical,mineralogical,beneficiation,and agglomeration studies found the offshore limemud as a potential replacement for limestone in the cement,filler,blast furnace,steel melting shop,lime production,paint,and Grade‐I steel *** assessment of mining and transportation costs indicates that the offshore limemud(USD 5–6/ton)is more cost‐effective than that imported from other countries(USD16‐18/ton).With several advantageous factors like low impurity,mode of occurrence in overburden‐free stratified form,fine‐grained slurry nature,and shallow water depth,sustainable mining of offshore limemud could be a future reality with controllable technological,economic,and environmental challenges.

Many previous studies suggested that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2) infection elevated the risk of morbidity and 90-day mortality after operation, especially pulmonary complications [1–7]. Uncertainty about perioperative safety puts off the progress of elective surgery [8]. The Omicron variant has recently become the dominant variant causing prevalence in several countries [9]. Although a high rate of patients with Omicron presented asymptomatic status [10], it is still unclear whether Omicron infection would raise the risk of postoperative complications.

Dysregulation of RNA modification systems in clinical populations with neurocognitive disorders

The study of modified RNA known as epitranscriptomics has become increasingly relevant in our understanding of disease-modifying mechanisms. Methylation of N6 adenosine(m6A) and C5 cytosine(m5C) bases occur on mRNAs, tRNA, mt-tRNA, and rRNA species as well as non-coding RNAs. With emerging knowledge of RNA binding proteins that act as writer, reader, and eraser effector proteins, comes a new understanding of physiological processes controlled by these systems. Such processes when spatiotemporally disrupted within cellular nanodomains in highly specialized tissues such as the brain, give rise to different forms of disease. In this review, we discuss accumulating evidence that changes in the m6A and m5C methylation systems contribute to neurocognitive disorders. Early studies first identified mutations within FMR1 to cause intellectual disability Fragile X syndromes several years before FMR1 was identified as an m6A RNA reader protein. Subsequently, familial mutations within the m6A writer gene METTL5, m5C writer genes NSUN2, NSUN3, NSUN5, and NSUN6, as well as THOC2 and THOC6 that form a protein complex with the m5C reader protein ALYREF, were recognized to cause intellectual development disorders. Similarly, differences in expression of the m5C writer and reader effector proteins, NSUN6, NSUN7, and ALYREF in brain tissue are indicated in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, individuals with a high neuropathological load or have suffered traumatic brain injury. Likewise, an abundance of m6A reader and anti-reader proteins are reported to change across brain regions in Lewy bodies diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, and individuals with high cognitive reserve. m6A-modified RNAs are also reported significantly more abundant in dementia with Lewy bodies brain tissue but significantly reduced in Parkinson’s disease tissue, whilst modified RNAs are misplaced within diseased cells, particularly where synapses are located. Deciphering gastric inflammation-induced tumorigenesis through multi-omics data and AI methods

Gastric cancer(GC), the fifth most common cancer globally, remains the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Inflammation-induced tumorigenesis is the predominant process in GC development;therefore, systematic research in this area should improve understanding of the biological mechanisms that initiate GC development and promote cancer hallmarks. Here, we summarize biological knowledge regarding gastric inflammation-induced tumorigenesis, and characterize the multi-omics data and systems biology methods for investigating GC development. Of note, we highlight pioneering studies in multi-omics data and state-of-the-art network-based algorithms used for dissecting the features of gastric inflammation-induced tumorigenesis, and we propose translational applications in early GC warning biomarkers and precise treatment strategies. This review offers integrative insights for GC research, with the goal of paving the way to novel paradigms for GC precision oncology and prevention.

This devel-opment in northeast Asia is interpreted by some people as the collapse of the ColdWar framewok, as they put the focus on the "breaking-up" of the old order. How-ever, others put the emphasis on the "establishment" of a new order.

The wadi dahab delta is in a dry, arid coastal zone within Egypt’s south Sinai Peninsula’s eastern portion. The primary water source is the Quaternary coastal alluvial aquifer. The groundwater salinity varies from 890to 8213 mg/L, with a mean value of 3417 mg/L. The dissolved major ions have been used to calculate the seawater mixing index(SWMI) using a linear equation that discriminates the groundwater mostly affected by water–rock interaction(SWMI 1>) and other samples mixed with Seawater(SWMI northeastern Dahab delta aquifer, with the intrusion zone extending1500 m inland. The salt dissolution, upwelling of saline water, recharge from the upstream mountain block, and seawater encroachment are the primary aspects contributing to the deterioration of groundwater quality. These findings may have significance for effective groundwater withdrawal management in arid locations worldwide with similar hydrogeological systems.
