Natural gas hydrates,intricate crystalline structures formed by water molecules and small gas molecules,have emerged as a significant and globally impactful clean energy ***,their commercial exploitation faces challenges,particularly operational disruptions caused by sand-related *** the rheological properties of hydrate slurry,especially in the presence of micron-sized sand particles,is imperative for ensuring the flow assurance of subsea hydrate *** study extensively investigates the rheological properties of sand-containing hydrate *** findings reveal that these slurries exhibit non-Newtonian fluid characteristics,including yield stress,thixotropy,and shear-thinning ***-like elastic features are observed in sand-containing hydrate slurries before yielding,transitioning to viscous behavior after *** with a minimal amount of sand,both static yield stress and yield strain experience substantial changes,correlating with the increase in sand *** research conclusively establishes the thixotropic nature of sand-hydrate slurries,where the viscosity decay rate is directly influenced by the shear *** insights aim to contribute comprehensively to the development of effective flow assurance strategies,ensuring the safe and stable operation of subsea hydrate exploitation.

A Well Productivity Model for Multi-Layered Marine and Continental Transitional Reservoirs with Complex Fracture Networks

Using the typical characteristics of multi-layered marine and continental transitional gas reservoirs as a basis,a model is developed to predict the related well production *** model relies on the fractal theory of tortuous capillary bundles and can take into account multiple gas flow mechanisms at the micrometer and nanometer scales,as well as the flow characteristics in different types of thin layers(tight sandstone gas,shale gas,and coalbed gas).Moreover,a source-sink function concept and a pressure drop superposition principle are utilized to introduce a coupled flow model in the reservoir.A semi-analytical solution for the production rate is obtained using a matrix iteration method.A specific well is selected for fitting dynamic production data,and the calculation results show that the tight sandstone has the highest gas production per unit thickness compared with the other types of ***,desorption and diffusion of coalbed gas and shale gas can significantly contribute to gas production,and the daily production of these two gases decreases rapidly with decreasing reservoir ***,the gas production from fractures exhibits an approximately U-shaped distribution,indicating the need to optimize the spacing between clusters during hydraulic fracturing to reduce the area of overlapping fracture *** coal matrix water saturation significantly affects the coalbed gas production,with higher water saturation leading to lower production.

Natural rubber latex as a potential additive for water-based drilling fluids

The environmental hazards and "carbon footprint" of oil and gas drilling can be significantly reduced by replacing traditional petroleum-based chemical additives with natural materials derived from plants and animals. This paper explored for the first time the interaction mechanism between natural rubber latex(NRL) and bentonite suspensions(BTs) through a series of characterization experiments, as well as the potential applications in water-based drilling fluids(WBDF). The gel viscoelasticity experiments showed that NRL could decrease the consistency coefficient(k) and flow index(n) of BTs, and enhance the shear thinning performance of BTs as pseudo-plastic fluids. In addition, 0.5 w/v% NRL not only increased the critical yield stress and strengthened the structural strength between the bentonite particles, but also facilitated the compatibility of pressure loss and flow efficiency. The evaluation of colloidal stability and WBDF performance indicated that NRL particles could promote the hydration and charge stability on the surface of BTs particles, and optimize the particle size distribution and flow resistance of WBDF under the "intercalation-exfoliation-encapsulation" synergistic interaction. Moreover, NRL can improve the rheological properties of WBDF at high temperatures(<150.C), and form a dense blocking layer by bridging and sealing the pores and cracks of the filter cake, which ultimately reduces the permeability of the cake and the filtration loss of WBDF.

Numerical Simulation of Oil-Water Two-Phase Flow in Low Permeability Tight Reservoirs Based on Weighted Least Squares Meshless Method

In response to the complex characteristics of actual low-permeability tight reservoirs,this study develops a meshless-based numerical simulation method for oil-water two-phase flow in these reservoirs,considering complex boundary *** radial basis function point interpolation,the method approximates shape functions for unknown functions within the nodal influence *** shape functions constructed by the aforementioned meshless interpolation method haveδ-function properties,which facilitate the handling of essential aspects like the controlled bottom-hole flow pressure in horizontal ***,the meshless method offers greater flexibility and freedom compared to grid cell discretization,making it simpler to discretize complex geometries.A variational principle for the flow control equation group is introduced using a weighted least squares meshless method,and the pressure distribution is solved *** results demonstrate that the computational outcomes of the meshless point cloud model,which has a relatively small degree of freedom,are in close agreement with those of the Discrete Fracture Model(DFM)employing refined grid partitioning,with pressure calculation accuracy exceeding 98.2%.Compared to high-resolution grid-based computational methods,the meshless method can achieve a better balance between computational efficiency and ***,the impact of fracture half-length on the productivity of horizontal wells is *** results indicate that increasing the fracture half-length is an effective strategy for enhancing production from the perspective of cumulative oil production.

The spacer used in gas insulated switchgear(GIS)plays a vital role in its safe *** mismatch of mechanical properties between conductor and insulating material in spacers results in stress concentration at the interface between *** a hydrostatic test,mechanical damages are often initiated from the *** this paper,the stress between aluminum conductors and epoxy resin is studied by using a simplified coaxial structure *** measurement system and finite element simulation are used to explore the generation of stress and strain during curing and *** real-time measurement of strain at the interface shows that the residual strain in the entire process is primarily generated during the cooling ***,the temperature and stress/strain distribution at the interface during the cooling stage are further studied,and combined with experiments and *** consistency between the finite element simulation and the experimental measurement results verifies the validity of the simulation method *** results show that the maximum of the first principal stress generated during the cooling stage of the production process is concentrated on the upper and lower edges of the interface which is critical to the impact of the production quality of the spacer.

New model of linkage evolution for the transtensional fault systems in the Nanpu Sag of Bohai Bay Basin: Insight from seismic interpretation and analogue modelling

The evolution of faults within the same stress field is frequently influenced by numerous factors,involving the reactivation of pre-existing structures, stress transmission through ductile detachment layers, and the growth, interaction, as well as linkage of new fault segments. This study analyses a complex multi-phase oblique extension fault system in the Nanpu Sag(NPS) of the Bohai Bay Basin(BBB),China. High-resolution three-dimensional(3D) seismic data and analogue modelling indicate that the oblique extensional reactivation of pre-existing structures governs the sequential arrangement of fault segments in the caprock, and they dip synthetically to the reactivated fault at depth. During the NW-SE extension in the Eocene, the predominant movement of the pre-existing fault is strike-slip. Subsequently,during the N-S extension since the Oligocene, inclined at *** the pre-existing fault, forming splay fault segments and ultimately creating large en-echelon arcuate faults linked by relay ramps. Using fault throw-distance(T-D) and laser scanning, we reconstructed the fault evolution model of oblique extension reactivation in the presence of a ductile detachment basement. Our study illustrates that the arcuate faults can be categorized into linear master fault segments controlled by pre-existing structures, bending splay faults in the termination zone, and normal fault segments responding to the regional stress *** interaction between faults occurs among normal faults and strike-slip faults, and the kinematic unification of the two fault systems is accomplished in the intersection zone. As the faults continue to evolve, the new fault segments tend to relinquish the control of pre-existing structures and concentrate more on the development of planar and continuous major faults. The ductile detachment layer significantly contributes to the uniform distribution of strain, resulting in narrow shear zones and discontinuous normal faults in its absence.

Fault characteristics and their control on oil and gas accumulation in the southwestern Ordos Basin

3D seismic data recently acquired from the Ordos Basin shows three sets of regularly distributed fault systems,which overrides previous understanding that no faults were developed in this *** interpretation suggests that the faults in the southwestern Ordos Basin have three basic characteristics,namely extreme micro-scale,distinct vertical stratification,and regularity of planar *** NS-,NW-,and NE-trending fault systems developed in the Meso-Neoproterozoic e Lower Ordovician *** these,the NS-trending fault system mainly consists of consequent and antithetic faults which show clear syndepositional *** fault systems in the Carboniferous e Middle-Lower Triassic strata are not clear on seismic reflection *** NW-and NE-trending fault systems are developed in the Upper Triassic e Middle Jurassic *** these,the NW-trending fault system appears as a negative flower structure in sectional view and in an en echelon pattern in plan-view;they show transtensional deformation.A NE-trending fault system that developed in the Lower Cretaceous e Cenozoic strata shows a Y-shaped structural style and tension-shear properties.A comprehensive analysis of the regional stress fields at different geologic times is essential to determine the development,distribution direction,and intensity of the activity of fault systems in the Ordos *** exploration suggests three aspects in which the faults within the Ordos Basin are crucial to oil and gas ***,these faults serve as vertical barriers that cause the formation of two sets of relatively independent petroleum systems in the Paleozoic and Mesozoic strata respectively;this is the basis for the‘upper oil and lower gas’distribution ***,the vertical communication of these faults is favorable for oil and gas migration,thus contributing to the typical characteristics of multiple oil and gas fields within the basin,*** and gas reservoirs with multiple

CFD simulation and optimization of an industrial cement gas-solid air classifier

An air classifier is one of the main and effective devices in cement *** this study,a three-dimensional,steady and two-phase(solid-gas)computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation was performed to optimize the performance of this device in the Kerman Momtazan cement plant,*** the validation of CFD results,the air flow field and air path lines between fixed blades were checked carefully and the non-uniformity in velocity distribution and the formation of vortex flows between the blades close to particle inlets were *** study tried to improve the device efficiency by changing the method of entering particles into the device,resulting in a reduction in air classifier electrical energy consumption(from 41 to 35(kW h)/t)and an increase in production rate(from 203 to 214 t/h).Additionally,the study investigated the effects of other modifiable operating conditions like rotary cage rotation speed,pressure difference,and inlet air temperature on the particle size distribution and classifier *** results showed that increasing the cage rotation speed decreased the product rate and the product particles mean diameter while increasing pressure difference or increasing temperature increased the product rate and the product particles mean *** was concluded that these modifiable operating conditions can significantly affect the performance of the air classifier in the cement industry.

Multiple damage zones around hydraulic fractures generated by high-frequency pulsating hydraulic fracturing

Pulsating hydraulic fracturing(PHF) is a promising fracturing method and can generate a dynamic periodic pressure. The periodic pressure can induce fatigue failure of rocks and decrease initiation pressure of fracture. If the frequency of periodic pressure exceeds 10 Hz, the distribution of pressure along the main fracture will be heterogeneous, which is much different from the one induced by the common fracturing method. In this study, the impact of this special spatial feature of pressure on hydraulic fracture is mainly investigated. A coupled numerical simulation model is first proposed and verified through experimental and theoretical solutions. The mechanism of secondary fracture initiation around the main fracture is then discovered. In addition, sensitivity studies are conducted to find out the application potential of this new method. The results show that(1) this coupled numerical simulation model is accurate. Through comparison with experimental and theoretical data, the average error of this coupled model is less than 1.01%.(2) Even if a reservoir has no natural fracture, this heterogeneous distribution pressure can also cause many secondary fractures around the main fracture.(3) The mechanism of secondary fracture initiation is that this heterogeneous distribution pressure causes tensile stress at many locations along the main fracture.(4) Through adjusting the stimulation parameters, the stimulation efficiency can be improved. The average and amplitude of pressure can increase possibility of secondary fracture initiation. The frequency of this periodic pressure can increase number of secondary fractures. Even 6 secondary fractures along a 100 m-length main fracture can be generated.(5) The influence magnitudes of stimulation parameters are larger than ones of geomechanical properties, therefore, this new fracturing method has a wide application potential.
