Objective:To investigate the regulation of matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of melalloproleinases(TIMPs) in human microvascular endothelium(HMEC-1) exposed to erythrocytes infected by different strains of Plasmodium falciparum(***).Methods: HMEC—1 eells were co—incubated for 72 h with erythrocytes infected by late stage trophozoite of D10(chloroquine-sensilive) or W 2(chloroquine-resistant) *** *** supernatants were then collected and the levels of pro- or active gelatinases MMP-9 and MMP-2 were evaluated by gelatin zymograpln and *** release of pro-MMP-9,***-1 and TIMP-1 proteins was analyzed by western blotting and ***:Infected erythrocytes induced de novo proMMP-9 and MMP-9 *** basal levels of proMMP-2 were altered,nor active MMP-2 was ***-3 and MMP-1 secretion was significant!) enhanced,whereas basal TIMP-1 was *** effects were similar for both strains. Conclusions:*** parasites,either chloroquine-sonsitive or -resistant,induce the release of active MMP-9 protein from human microvascular endothelium,by impairing balances between proMMP-9 and its inhibitor,and by enhancing the levels of its *** work provides new evidence on MMP involvement in malaria,pointing at MMP-9 as a possible target in adjuvant therapy.

Transcriptional regulation is critical to cellular processes of all organisms. Regulatory mechanisms often involve more than one transcription factor(TF) from different families, binding together and attaching to the DNA as a single complex. However, only a fraction of the regulatory partners of each TF is currently known. In this paper, we present the Transcriptional Interaction and Coregulation Analyzer(TICA), a novel methodology for predicting heterotypic physical interaction of TFs. TICA employs a data-driven approach to infer interaction phenomena from chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing(ChIP-seq) data. Its prediction rules are based on the distribution of minimal distance couples of paired binding sites belonging to different TFs which are located closest to each other in promoter regions. Notably, TICA uses only binding site information from input ChIP-seq experiments, bypassing the need to do motif calling on sequencing data. We present our method and test it on ENCODE ChIP-seq datasets, using three cell lines as reference including HepG2, GM12878, and K562. TICA positive predictions on ENCODE ChIP-seq data are strongly enriched when compared to protein complex(CORUM) and functional interaction(BioGRID) databases. We also compare TICA against both motif/ChIP-seq based methods for physical TF–TF interaction prediction and published literature. Based on our results, TICA offers significant specificity(average 0.902) while maintaining a good recall(average 0.284) with respect to CORUM, providing a novel technique for fast analysis of regulatory effect in cell lines. Furthermore, predictions by TICA are complementary to other methods for TF–TF interaction prediction(in particular, TACO and CENTdiST). Thus, combined application of these prediction tools results in much improved sensitivity in detecting TF–TF interactions compared to TICA alone(sensitivity of 0.526 when combining TICA with TACO and 0.585 when combining with CENTdiST)with little compromise

We investigate both analytically and numerically the concentration dynamics of a solution in two containers connected by a narrow and short channel, in which diffusion obeys a porous medium equation. We also consider the variation of the pressure in the containers due to the flow of matter in the channel. In particular, we identify a phenomenon, which depends on the transport of matter across nano-porous membranes, which we call ＂transient osmosis＂. We find that nonlinear diffusion of the porous medium equation type allows numerous different osmotic-like phenomena, which are not present in the case of ordinary Fickian diffusion. Experimental results suggest one possible candidate for transiently osmotic processes.

In this paper an asymptotic formula of Voronovskaja type for a multivariate extension of the Kantorovich generalized sampling series is given. Moreover a quantitative version in terms of some moduli of smoothness is established. Finally some particular examples of kernels are discussed, as the Bochner-Riesz kernel and the multivariate splines.

This paper is divided in two parts： in Section 2, we define recursively a privileged basis of the primitive forms in a symplectic space（V^（2n）, ω）. Successively, in Section 3, we apply our construction in the setting of Heisenberg groups H^n, n ≥ 1, to write in coordinates the exterior differential of the so-called Rumin＇s complex of differential forms in H^n.

Antennae of the wheat stink bug Eurygaster maura L. （Hemiptera： Scutelleridae） were investigated to elucidate structure and distribution of antennal chemosensilla in females. Five type of sensilla were identified and characterized using a scanning electron microscope （SEM） and a transmission electron microscope （TEM）. Type 1 sensilla are mechanical and contact chemoreceptors with a single apical pore. Types 2 and 3 sensilla are multiporous chemoreceptors both with typical features of olfactory sensilla. Type 4 are multiporous peg-like sensilla, short and with a grooved surface. Type 5 are sensilla coeloconica with a smooth and aporous peg completely inserted in a sub-cuticular chamber. All types are distributed on the two flagellar segments, but we considered only the apical flagellomere in which the largest number of sensilla are located. The most abundant sensilla are type 3, while the less numerous are type 5. All types, except type 2, decreased in number from the tip to the base of the segment. The lower density of sensilla was recorded on the dorsal-internal part of the apical antennomere, while the higher density was recorded on the opposite side （external-ventral）.
