Objective This study aimed to explore the association between periconceptional fish consumption by parents and autism spectrum disorder （ASD） and intelligence deficiency （ID）. Methods A case-control study was conducted through a questionnaire with 108 ASD cases, 79 ID cases, and 108 controls. The ASD and ID cases were students from special educational schools in Tianjin from 2012 to 2014. The age- and sex-matched controls were from a high school, three primary schools, and a kindergarten in Tianjin. Multivariate logistic regression was performed. Results Paternal habit of eating hairtail before fertilization, maternal preference for fruits during pregnancy, and maternal habit of eating grass carp during pregnancy were preventive factors for ASD. Paternal habit of drinking alcohol before fertilization was a risk factor for ID, whereas maternal preference for fruits during pregnancy and maternal habit of eating crucian carp during pregnancy were protective factors for ID. Conclusion Parental fish consumption is beneficial for the prevention of ASD and ID. Meanwhile, the protective effects of fish consumption on ASD and ID differ. More attention should be paid to the combined effect of other food when eating fish.

Objective To investigate the association between autism and prenatal environmental risk *** A case-control study was conducted among 193 children with autism from the specialeducational schools and 733 typical development controls matched by age and gender by usingquestionnaire in Tianjin from 2007 to 2012. Statistical analysis included quick unbiased efficientstatistical tree （QUEST） and logistic regression in SPSS *** There were four predictors by QUEST and the logistic regression analysis, maternal airconditioner use during pregnancy （OR=0.316, 95% CI： 0.215-0.463） was the single first-level node（χ2=50.994, P=0.000）; newborn complications （OR=4.277, 95% CI： 2.314-7.908） and paternalconsumption of freshwater fish （OR=0.383, 95% CI： 0.256-0.573） were second-layer predictors（χ2=45.248, P=0.000; χ2=24.212, P=0.000）; and maternal depression （OR=4.822, 95% CI： 3.047-7.631）was the single third-level predictor （χ2=23.835, P=0.000）. The prediction accuracy of the tree was 89.2%.Conclusion The air conditioner use during pregnancy and paternal freshwater fish diet might bebeneficial for the prevention of autism, while newborn complications and maternal depression might bethe risk factors.

Gas explosions are one of the most lethal types of coal mine safety *** powerful shock waves these explosions produce can cause damage to the lung tissue of nearby individuals,resulting in symptoms including pulmonary hemorrhage and pulmonary edema[1].At present,there is no effective treatment for gas explosion-induced lung injuries;therefore,there is an urgent need to identify new therapeutic means to improve the clinical management of the system of treatment for lung injury caused by gas *** stem cells(MSCs)are adult stem cells with self-renewal ability and multilineage differentiation potential that exert their therapeutic potential through various mechanisms,including the regulation of inflammation and immune responses[2].Reports on the therapeutic role of MSCs in blast lung injury remain scarce.

Objective Although stressful life events represent an etiologic factor of mental health problems in adolescents, few studies have been conducted to address mechanisms linking the stress-psychopathology relation. The present study was designed to examine coping as a mediate factor on the relationship between stressful life events and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Methods The participants were 13 512 students from eight cities of China, who participated in a school-based survey. Data were collected by a questionnaire comprising coping, stressful life events, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. As a model, a series of regression equations were used to examine whether coping mediated the association between stressful life events and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Results Each dimension of stressful life events showed significant correlation with anxiety, depression and coping （all P〈0.001）. In the model to analyze mediate effects, all standardized coefficients （β） were significant （all P〈0.01）, indicating marked mediator effects. Furthermore, negative coping might account for more mediate effects than positive coping on this relationship. Conclusion Coping partially mediated the relationship between stressful life events and mental health during adolescence. This study highlighted an important public health priority for preventive interventions targeting stress-related psychopathology, and for further promoting adolescents＇ mental health.

Background In early adolescence,youth are highly prone to suicidal *** modifiable risk factors during this critical phase is a priority to inform effective suicide prevention *** To explore the risk and protective factors of suicidal behaviours(ie,suicidal ideation,plans and attempts)in early adolescence in China using a social-ecological *** Using data from the cross-sectional project‘healthy and Risky Behaviours Among Middle school Students in Anhui Province,China',stratified random cluster sampling was used to select 5724 middle school students who had completed self-report questionnaires in November *** analysis was employed to examine the correlates of suicidal ideation,plans and attempts at four levels,namely individual(sex,academic performance,serious physical llness/disability,history of self-harm,depression,impulsivity,sleep problems,resilience),family(family economic status,relationship with mother,relationship with father,family violence,childhood abuse,parental mental illness),school(relationship with teachers,relationship with classmates,school-bullying victimisation and perpetration)and social(social support,satisfaction with society).Results In total,37.9%,19.0%and 5.5%of the students reported suicidal ideation,plans and attempts in the past 6 months,*** estimated network revealed that suicidal ideation,plans and attempts were collectively associated with a history of self-harm,sleep problems,childhood abuse,school bullying and *** analysis indicated that the most influential nodes in the network were history of self-harm and childhood ***,the network also showed unique correlates of suicidal ideation(sex,weight=0.60;impulsivity,weight=0.24;family violence,weight=0.17;relationship with teachers,weight=-0.03;school-bullying perpetration,weight=0.22),suicidal plans(social support,weight=-0.15)and suicidal attempts(relationship with mother,weight=-0.10;par

AIM To identify health and psychosocial problems associated with bullying victimization and conduct a meta-analysis summarizing the causal *** A systematic review was conducted using Pub Med, EMBASE, ERIC and Psyc INFO electronic databases up to 28 February 2015. The study included published longitudinal and cross-sectional articles that examined health and psychosocial consequences of bullying victimization. All meta-analyses were based on qualityeffects models. Evidence for causality was assessed using Bradford Hill criteria and the grading system developed by the World Cancer Research *** Out of 317 articles assessed for eligibility, 165 satisfied the predetermined inclusion criteria for *** significant associations were observed between bullying victimization and a wide range of adverse health and psychosocial problems. The evidence was strongest for causal associations between bullying victimization and mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, poor general health and suicidal ideation and behaviours. Probable causal associations existed between bullying victimization and tobacco and illicit drug use. CONCLUSION Strong evidence exists for a causal relationship between bullying victimization, mental health problems and substance use. Evidence also exists for associations between bullying victimization and other adverse health and psychosocial problems, however, there is insufficient evidence to conclude causality. The strong evidence that bullying victimization is causative of mental illness highlights the need for schools to implement effective interventions to address bullying behaviours.

Objective Accumulation of estrogenic compounds and other carcinogens in normal breast tissues contributes to unpredictable breast cancer incidence during adolescence and throughout *** assess the role of parabens in this phenomenon,the paraben content of adjacent normal-malignant breast tissues is measured in women with breast cancer living in Isfahan Province,*** Adjacent normal-malignant breast tissue samples were obtained from 53 *** parabens including methyl-paraben(Me PB),ethyl-paraben(Et PB),propyl-paraben(Pr PB),and butylparaben(Bu PB)were extracted from the sample supernatant and then subjected to gas chromatography *** Some risk factors for breast cancer were stimulated by parabens in adjacent malignant-normal breast tissues among young and middle-aged women with breast *** observed a significant association for dose-response pattern of Me PB[OR=98.34(11.43–185.2),P=0.027]for both ER+and PR+women and Me PB[OR=164.3(CI:112.3–216.3),P<0.001]for HER2+women than women with negative *** risk of 95-fold increase in Me PB dose and 164-fold increase in∑PBs dose were significant for women with hereditary breast cancer in first-degree *** These results may promote future epidemiology studies and strategies to improve women's lifestyle and consume paraben-free products.

South Africa has seen an increasing population of children and adolescents accessing antiretroviral treatment (ART) in the past seven years. Many of these children are at the age when they should know their HIV diagnosis. We used grounded theory to explore the process, reasons and outcomes of HIV disclosure to children accessing ART from a paediatric HIV clinic in South Africa. Twenty seven caregivers of children aged 6 - 13 years who were receiving ART participated in four focus group interviews. Four main themes, disclosure occurring as a process, asking HIV related questions, the right age to tell, and the child's reaction to the diagnosis emerged. Biological caregivers approached disclosure as a process;they planned and prepared for the disclosure event for a long time. Full disclosure occurred when the caregivers had dealt with their own personal fears over the child's diagnosis, resulting in disclosure being delayed to older age and adolescence. Non-biological caregivers disclosed impulsively to children and employed partial disclosure. Caregivers disclosed because of the child's refusal to continue taking medication or the child repeatedly questioned the reasons for taking medication. Caregivers also disclosed because it was the right time to disclose, and the right time was often when the child reaches adolescence. After learning about their HIV diagnosis children became more adherent to medication, they also ensured that their HIV infected biological caregivers were adherent too. children kept their diagnosis secret from people outside their immediate families. The increased survival of children on ART in South Africa calls for concerted efforts from researchers and health care providers to develop disclosure guidelines to assist caregivers to disclose to children in a manner that promotes the wellbeing of the child.

adolescence is a critical period development of higher-order cognition and the corresponding refinements of the structure and function of the brain regions supporting it. The development of higher-order cognition is determined by neurobiological and genetic mechanisms as well as household, community, and environmental factors. Lifestyle, as an important factor of the family environment, plays a critical role in affecting offspring s cognition and behaviors. However, previous studies on parental lifestyle and offspring cognitive performance have mainly focused on individual lifestyle factors or lifestyle profiles of one of the parents, and were limited to the observation in offspring’s early childhood. Little is known about the potential role of parental adherence to an overall healthy lifestyle in the cognitive performance of offspring during adolescence and early adulthood. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the prospective association between overall parental lifestyle and cognitive performance in offspring during adolescence and young adulthood, using a nationally representative sample from China. Methods We included 2531 adolescents aged 10-15 years at the study baseline in 2010 from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS). Five healthy lifestyle factors were defined as(1) modified dietary diversity score greater than or equal to 5 points(about the top 35%),(2) never smoking,(3) non-habitual drinking(no more than three times per week in the last month),(4) exercise weekly,(5) taking a short afternoon nap(healthy lifestyle behaviors. The combination of these five lifestyle factors constructed the healthy lifestyle score ranging from 0 to 5, with a higher score indicating a healthier lifestyle. Although mental health symptoms in children and adolescents are shown to predict young adult mental health outcomes, long-term prospective studies of childhood cohorts are few. The aim of the present study was to analyze the prospective importance of internalized mental health symptoms in adolescence for internalized symptoms in adulthood. Methods: A community-based prospective longitudinal cohort provided information by questionnaire about psychological status at age 16 and 43 (n=1010, representing 94.3% of those still alive). Socio-demographic variables which were indicative of possible childhood adversity (parental class, absence, illness, unemployment, relationship, crowding, number of moves) were treated as confounders and controlled for in ordinal regression. Results: For both women and men, internalizing mental health symptoms reported at 16 significantly predicted the same outcome at 43 years, after controlling for previous adverse environmental conditions (OR =1.2 for women, 1.3 for men). Conclusion: In this representative cohort studied over 27 years with excellent retention rates, the occurrence of self-reported worry, panic and sadness in mid-adolescence significantly increased the likelihood of similar states in middle adulthood.
