Semiconductor quantum dots(QDs)have shown great promise as fluorescent probes for molecular,cellular and in vivo ***,the fluorescence of traditional polymer-encapsulated QDs is often quenched by proton-induced etching in acidic *** is a major problem for applications of QDs in the gastrointestinal tract because the gastric(stomach)environment is strongly acidic(pH 12).Here we report the use of proton-resistant surface coatings to stabilize QD fl uorescence under acidic *** both hyperbranched polyethylenimine(PEI)and its polyethylene glycol derivative(PEG-grafted PEI),we show that the fl uorescence of coreshell CdSe/CdS/ZnS QDs is effectively protected from quenching in simulated gastric *** comparison,amphiphilic lipid or polymer coatings provide no protection under similarly acidic *** proton-resistant QDs are found to cause moderate membrane damage to cultured epithelial cells,but PEGylation(PEG grafting)can be used to reduce cellular toxicity and to improve nanoparticle stability.

Spontaneous Tumor Lysis Syndrome (STLS) is a rare oncologic condition caused by the breakdown of neoplastic tissue in the absence of traditional anti-tumor therapy. It is postulated that cancers with rapidly dividing cells lead to increased cell turnover which exceeds the kidneys’ ability to adequately filtrate by-products of cellular breakdown (i.e., phosphate, potassium, anduric acid), leading to end organ damage. It has been reported in the past that kidney failure is a sequelae of Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS), but there have been no reports that demonstrate acute kidney injury (AKI) preceding TLS. The case presented here demonstrates TLS in a patient with no formal cancer diagnosis, who had received no chemotherapy or radiation that was precipitated by an iatrogenic AKI with chlorthalidone and ibuprofen. This unusual pattern of AKI preceding STLS may provide insight into the pathophysiology of the condition and could possibly lead to greater understanding of this phenomenon.

We analyze the transverse momentum （PT） and rapidity （y） spectra of top quark pairs, hadronic top quarks, and top quarks produced in proton-proton （pp） collisions at center-of-mass energy √s=8 TeV. For PT spectra, we use the superposition of the inverse power-law suggested by the QCD （quantum chromodynamics） calculus and the Erlang distribution resulting from a multisource thermal model. For y spectra, we use the two-component Gaussian function resulting from the revised Landau hydrodynamic model. The modelling results are in agreement with the experimental data measured at the detector level, in the fiducial phase-space, and in the full phase-space by the ATLAS Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider （LHC）. Based on the parameter values extracted from PT and y spectra, the event patterns in three-dimensional velocity （βx-βy-βz）, momentum （px-py-pz）, and rapidity （y1-y2-y） spaces are obtained, and the probability distributions of these components are also obtained. The transverse momentum distributions of the identified particles produced in small collision systems at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider(RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider(LHC) have been analyzed by four models. The first two models utilize the blast-wave model with different statistics. The last two models employ certain linear correspondences based on different *** four models describe the experimental data measured by the Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction eXperiment, Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC, and A Large Ion Collider Experiment collaborations equally well. It is found that both the kinetic freeze-out temperature and transverse flow velocity in the central collisions are comparable with those in the peripheral collisions. With the increase of collision energy from that of the RHIC to that of the LHC,the considered quantities typically do not decrease. Comparing with the central collisions, the proton–proton collisions are closer to the peripheral collisions.

Molecular physiology of vesicular glutamate transporters in the digestive system

Glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). Packaging and storage of glutamate into glutamatergic neuronal vesicles require ATP-dependent vesicular glutamate uptake systems, which utilize the electrochemical proton gradient as a driving force. Three vesicular glutamate transporters (VGLUT1-3) have been recently identified from neuronal tissue where they play a key role to maintain the vesicular glutamate level. Recently, it has been demonstrated that glutamate signaling is also functional in peripheral neuronal and non-neuronal tissues, and occurs in sites of pituitary, adrenal, pineal glands, bone, GI tract, pancreas,skin, and testis. The glutamate receptors and VGLUTs in digestivesystem have been found in both neuronal and endocrinal cells. The glutamate signaling in the digestive system may have significant relevance to diabetes and GI tract motility disorders. This review will focus on the most recent update of molecular physiology of digestive VGLUTs.

The earlier integration of validated Lennard–Jones(LJ)potentials for 8 fcc metals into materials and biomolecular force fields has advanced multiple research fields,for example,metal–electrolyte interfaces,recognition of biomolecules,colloidal assembly of metal nanostructures,alloys,and *** we introduce 12-6 and 9-6 LJ parameters for classical all-atom simulations of 10 further fcc metals(Ac,Ca(α),Ce(γ),Es(β),Fe(γ),Ir,Rh,Sr(α),Th(α),Yb(β))and stainless *** parameters reproduce lattice constants,surface energies,water interfacial energies,and interactions with(bio)organic molecules in 0.1 to 5%agreement with experiment,as well as qualitative mechanical properties under standard *** are reduced up to a factor of one hundred in comparison to earlier Lennard–Jones parameters,embedded atom models,and density functional *** also explain a quantitative correlation between atomization energies from experiments and surface energies that supports parameter *** models are computationally very efficient and applicable to an exponential space of *** with a wide range of force fields such as the Interface force field(IFF),AMBER,CHARMM,COMPASS,CVFF,DREIDING,OPLS-AA,and PCFF enables reliable simulations of nanostructures up to millions of atoms and microsecond time ***-friendly model building and input generation are available in the CHARMM-GUI Nanomaterial *** a limitation,deviations in mechanical properties vary and are comparable to DFT *** discuss the incorporation of reactivity and features of the electronic structure to expand the range of applications and further increase the accuracy.

The exponentially increasing heat generation in electronic devices,induced by high power density and miniaturization,has become a dominant issue that affects carbon footprint,cost,performance,reliability,and *** metals(LMs)with high thermal conductivity are promising candidates for effective thermal management yet are facing pump-out and surface-spreading *** in the form of metallic particles can address these problems,but apparent alloying processes elevate the LM melting point,leading to severely deteriorated ***,we propose a facile and sustainable approach to address these challenges by using a biogenic supramolecular network as an effective diffusion barrier at copper particle-LM(EGaIn/Cu@TA)interfaces to achieve superior thermal *** supramolecular network promotes LM stability by reducing unfavorable alloying and fluidity *** EGaIn/Cu@TA exhibits a record-high metallic-mediated thermal conductivity(66.1 W m^(-1) K^(-1))and fluidic ***,mechanistic studies suggest the enhanced heat flow path after the incorporation of copper particles,generating heat dissipation suitable for computer central processing units,exceeding that of commercial *** results highlight the prospects of renewable macromolecules isolated from biomass for the rational design of nanointerfaces based on metallic particles and LM,paving a new and sustainable avenue for high-performance thermal management.
