Spatial impact of digital finance on carbon productivity

Low carbon productivity has been identified as a key direction for China’s future *** an important driving force for economic growth,the question of whether digital finance that is reliant on digital technology can support the development of a low-carbon urban economy remains *** on the carbon productivity measured by panel data from 201 cities for the period 2011-2020,this study applies the spatial Dubin model and threshold regression model to explore the impact of digital finance on carbon productivity,yielding the following key ***,the spatial distribution heterogeneity of carbon productivity in China’s eastern region is higher than that in the western region,and both productivity and digital finance are characterized by high(low)-high(low)dotted spatial ***,digital finance can significantly improve carbon productivity via two transmission channels:the human capital and marketization *** the same time,digital finance exerts a spatial spillover effect on carbon productivity,and rising local digital finance levels will increase carbon productivity in neighboring *** analysis indicates that the spillover effect of digital finance in urban agglomerations and eastern regions is more ***,fixed-asset investment has a positive nonlinear moderating effect on digital finance,thus improving carbon *** the per capita investment in fixed assets does not exceed 682.73 yuan,digital finance exerts only a limit pulling effect on carbon productivity;when it is higher than this value,the pulling effect is intensified.

Considering the large number of returns in online sales and the network externalities of e-platforms,we develop a decentralized model and a centralized model to explore the impacts of returns and network externalities on e-commerce supply chain(ECSC)*** show that in the decentralized model,the service level,price,market demand,and ECSC members’profits increase with the network externality ***,the service level and price increase,while the market demand and ECSC members’profits decrease with the product return *** centralized model is the optimal operating mode when it is properly *** design the“commission and return cost-sharing”contract to optimize ECSC,in which the proportion of the e-platform’s sharing of the return handling cost is exactly equal to the proportion of the system profit after *** on the decentralized model,we develop two extended models in which we endogenize the impacts of the service level and return rate on the network externality *** comparisons between the extended and decentralized models,we show that high-quality service can improve ECSC’s profitability,while a high return rate hurts its economic performance.

While databases are widely-used in commercial user-facing services that have stringent quality-of-service(QoS)requirement,it is crucial to ensure their good performance and minimize the hardware usage at the same *** investigation shows that the optimal DBMS(database management system)software configuration varies for different user request patterns(i.e.,workloads)and hardware *** is challenging to identify the optimal software and hardware configurations for a database workload,because DBMSs have hundreds of tunable knobs,the effect of tuning a knob depends on other knobs,and the dependency relationship changes under different hardware *** this paper,we propose SHA,a software and hardware auto-tuning system for *** is comprised of a scaling-based performance predictor,a reinforcement learning(RL)based software tuner,and a QoS-aware resource *** performance predictor predicts its optimal performance with different hardware configurations and identifies the minimum amount of resources for satisfying its performance *** software tuner fine-tunes the DBMS software knobs to optimize the performance of the *** resource reallocator assigns the saved resources to other applications to improve resource utilization without incurring QoS violation of the database *** results show that SHA improves the performance of database workloads by 9.9%on average compared with a state-of-the-art solution when the hardware configuration is fixed,and improves 43.2%of resource utilization while ensuring the QoS.

Exploring the characteristics of microbial community and enzyme activity in the aged refuse landfill environment of Taiyuan, China

Municipal solid waste landfill is the main disposal option for domestic garbage, in which microbial activities play an important role. However, despite the widespread practice of landfilling, the metagenomic microbial profiles of landfill sites remain poorly characterized. In this study, we used a combination of physicochemical analysis, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, and high-throughput Illumina shotgun sequencing to systematically investigate the changes in soil enzyme activities, microbial community structure, and functional attributes in aged refuse collected from the Xingou Municipal Solid Waste Landfill in Taiyuan, China, with ordinary topsoil from an area within 5 km of the landfill as control soil. Except for neutral phosphatase (P=0.065), the activities of urease, laccase, dehydrogenase, sucrase, neutral protease, and β-glucosidase were all significantly reduced (P <0.05) in the aged refuse compared with the control soil. Contrastingly, catalase activity was found to be significantly elevated in the aged refuse. Compared with the control soil, aged refuse was characterized by higher richness and diversity of microbial communities, as reflected by the higher values of community richness estimators (Chao 1 and ACE) and diversity indices (Shannon and Simpson). In total, 186 phyla, 4 354 genera, and 34 459 species were identified, with 132 phyla, 1 914 genera, and7 369 species showing significantly different abundances between the aged refuse and the control soil. Actinobacteria and Acidobacteria were identified as the dominant phyla in the control soil, whereas Proteobacteria, Euryarchaeota (archaea), and Firmicutes were found to predominate in the aged ***, Euryarchaeota and Methanoculleus were the major taxa detected in the aged refuse, but were almost completely absent in the control soil. Human adoption of artificial intelligence(AI)technique is largely hampered because of the increasing complexity and opacity of AI *** AI(XAI)techniques with various methods and tools have been developed to bridge this gap between high-performance black-box AI models and human ***,the current adoption of XAI technique stil lacks"human-centered"guidance for designing proper solutions to meet different stakeholders'needs in XAI *** first summarize a human-centered demand framework to categorize different stakeholders into five key roles with specific demands by reviewing existing research and then extract six commonly used human-centered XAI evaluation measures which are helpful for validating the effect of *** addition,a taxonomy of XAI methods is developed for visual computing with analysis of method *** clearer human demands and XAI methods in mind,we take a medical image diagnosis scenario as an example to present an overview of how extant XAI approaches for visual computing fulfil stakeholders'human-centered demands in *** we check the availability of open-source XAI tools for stakeholders'*** survey provides further guidance for matching diverse human demands with appropriate XAI methods or tools in specific applications with a summary of main challenges and future work toward human-centered XAI in practice.

As a fundamental logistics service,the express delivery(ED)industry provides production and consumption activities to maintain efficient supply chain *** plays an important role in promoting industrial development and maintaining daily life and *** study examined the effects of COVID-19 on the ED industry using ED package delivery data from 31 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities)in *** a difference-in-differences method,the COVID-19 outbreak was found to have a positive effect and epidemic prevention and control(EPC)policies were found to have negative effects on the development of the ED *** addition to EPC policies,the Chinese government has implemented other short-term economic interventions(SEI),such as the resumption of work and production(RWP),policies to balance economic growth,and epidemic *** study divided the pandemic period into three stages to analyze the different impacts of EPC and SEI policy changes on the ED *** RWP policies adopted during the pandemic positively impacted the volume and income of packages delivered to the ED *** conclusions of this study are significant for the ED industry in addressing public health emergencies and for the Chinese government to formulate EPC and SEI policies during epidemic periods.
