The world is changing at an accelerating pace due to increased human exploitation of the earth’s resources and the consequent climate change and biodiversity loss *** a transdisciplinary discipline studying the coupled human and nature systems and their interactions,Geography has natural advantages to promote sustainable *** the aim of stimulating sustainable development in the Anthropocene,the International Geography and Sustainability Workshop 2021 was held virtually during 23-24 November *** editorial briefly reviews the development history of Geography,summarizes the presentations of keynote speakers,outlines the overall research framework,and discusses the future directions by which the discipline of Geography can be harnessed to advance sustainable *** key outcomes are as follows:(1)The research paradigms of Geography are shifting from basic knowledge acquisition to understanding of coupling patterns and processes,and to the simulation and prediction of complex human-earth systems;(2)Landscape sustainability science and the metacoupling concept are emerging as new comprehensive research perspectives,and the framework of“Pattern—Process—Service—Sustainability”can be used as a basis to underpin Geography’s role in sustainability;(3)Geography can support sustainable development in many ways,such as in agricultural development,disaster and risk monitoring and early warning,global climate change mitigation,and in helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).Future research directions include:integrated geographical research on climate change and sustainable resource utilization;integrated geographical research on social and economic sustainable development;sustainable cascades of ecosystem structure,functions,services,and human well-being;metacoupling for sustainability;safe and justice space boundaries;the classification-coordination-collaboration approach;and geographical education for sustainable development.

Evaluating the management of anaphylaxis in US emergency departments:Guidelines ***

BACKGROUND:Anaphylaxis is characterized by acute episodes of potentially life-threatening symptoms that are often treated in the emergency *** guidelines recommend:1) quick diagnosis using standard criteria;2) first-line treatment with epinephrine;and 3) discharge with a prescription for an epinephrine auto-injector,written instructions regarding long-term management,and a referral(preferably,allergy) for ***,studies suggest low concordance with guideline recommendations by emergency medicine(EM) *** study aimed to evaluate how emergency departments(EDs) in the United States(US) manage anaphylaxis in relation to guideline ***:This was an online anonymous survey of a random sample of EM health providers in US ***:Data analysis included 207 EM *** respondent EDs,approximately 9%reported using agreed-upon clinical criteria to diagnose anaphylaxis;42%reported administering epinephrine in the ED for most anaphylaxis episodes;and utilization of standard criteria for defining anaphylaxis and inconsistent use of *** research is recommended.

FPGA Based Wireless Multi-Node Transceiver and Monitoring System

In recent years the variety and complexity of Wireless Sensor Network （WSN） applications, the nodes and the functions they are expected to perform have increased immensely. This poses the question of reducing the time from initial design of WSN applications to their implementation as a major research topic. RF communication programs for WSN nodes are generally written on microcontroller units （MCUs） for universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter （UART） data communication, however nowadays radio frequency （RF） designs based on field-programmable gate array （FPGA） have emerged as a very powerful alternative, due to their parallel data processing ability and software reconfigurability. In this paper, the authors present a prototype of a flexible multi-node transceiver and monitoring system. The prototype is designed for time-critical applications and can be also reconfigured for other applications like event tracking. The processing power of FPGA is combined with a simple communication protocol. The system consists of three major parts： wireless nodes, the FPGA and display used for visualization of data processing. The transmission protocol is based on preamble and synchronous data transmission, where the receiver adjusts the receiving baud rate in the range from min. 300 to max. 2400 bps. The most important contribution of this work is using the virtual PicoBlaze Soft-Core Processor for controlling the data transmission through the RF modules. The proposed system has been evaluated based on logic utilization, in terms of the number of slice flip flops, the number of 4 input LUTs （Look-Up Tables） and the number of bonded lOBs （Input Output Blocks）. The results for capacity usage are very promising as compared to other similar research.

[Objective]This study aimed to investigate various factors affecting the dedifferentiation of different floral organs of Jinxiu wild chive.[Method]Floral organs of Jinxiu wild chive were cultured in vitro,to analyze the effects of basic medium,exogenous hormone type and combination,and blossoming status of buds on callus induction.[Result]MS medium was the most suitable medium for callus induction from *** was conducive to improving callus formation rate compared with other ***-blossomed buds exhibited the highest rate of callus *** the same culture conditions,the rate of callus induction varied extremely significantly among various floral organs;to be specific,the rate of callus induction from floral disc reached the highest,followed successively by bud and pedicel,but no callus was formed in floral axis group.[Conclusion]This study laid the foundation for further establishment of tissue culture and rapid propagation system of Jinxiu wild chive and other wild chives and provided technical support for the preservation,development and utilization of wild chive germplasm resources.

Production of the C/TiO_(2)composite with a high-performance electrochemical property from titanium-rich sludge via in-situ C coating

Resource recycling from waste-water and sludge is an important part of the 14th Five-Year Plan in *** emerging titanium-based coagulants have drawn growing attentions due to their strong coagulation capability in water purification and value-added Ti-loaded sludge *** and recovery of the high value-added sludge into functional nanomaterials is highly significant for both sludge reduction and environmental *** present study was carried out to investigate the recycle of the coagulated Ti-loaded sludge to produce functional C/TiO_(2)composites as the anode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).It is the first time that the application of the Ti-loaded wastewater sludge derived C/TiO_(2)was evaluated for *** experimental results showed that the carbon coating through in-situ carbonization of the sludge produced the C/TiO_(2)composites with a high specific surface area,stable structural integrity,and excellent electrochemical properties that would facilitate Li+diffusion in long-term LIBs *** C/TiO_(2)composites calcinated from the polytitanium sulfate-coagulated sludge at 800℃(N_(2))exhibited the best electrochemical performance during the cycling tests(601 m Ah/g at 100 m A/g after 200 cycles).The research work demonstrates the promising prospect of the recycle and value-added utilization of the Ti-loaded sludge in the production of high-performance C/TiO_(2)composites for energy storage *** study provides a new way for the management and reuse of Ti-loaded waste-sludge.

Feasibility study on the use of near-infrared spectroscopy for rapid and nondestructive determination of gossypol content in intact cottonseeds

Background:Gossypol found in cottonseeds is toxic to human beings and monogastric animals and is a primary parameter for the integrated utilization of cottonseed *** is usually determined by the techniques relied on complex pretreatment procedures and the samples after determination cannot be used in the breeding program,so it is of great importance to predict the gossypol content in cottonseeds rapidly and nondestructively to substitute the traditional analytical ***:Gossypol content in cottonseeds was investigated by near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS)and high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).Partial least squares regression,combined with spectral pretreatment methods including Savitzky-Golay smoothing,standard normal variate,multiplicative scatter correction,and first derivate were tested for optimizing the calibration *** technique was efficient in predicting gossypol content in intact cottonseeds,as revealed by the root-mean-square error of cross-validation(RMSECV),root-mean-square error of prediction(RMSEP),coefficient for determination of prediction(R_(p)^(2)),and residual predictive deviation(RPD)values for all models,being 0.05∼0.07,0.04∼0.06,0.82∼0.92,and 2.3∼3.4,*** optimized model pretreated by Savitzky-Golay smoothing+standard normal variate+first derivate resulted in a good determination of gossypol content in intact ***:Near-infrared spectroscopy coupled with different spectral pretreatments and partial least squares(PLS)regression has exhibited the feasibility in predicting gossypol content in intact cottonseeds,rapidly and non *** could be used as an alternative method to substitute for traditional one to determi ne the gossypol content in intact cottonseeds.

Low-Temperature Denitrification Performance of Cu2O/Activated Carbon Catalysts for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx by CO

To improve the denitrification performance of carbon-based materials for sintering flue gas,we prepared a composite catalyst comprising coconut shell activated carbon(AC)modified by thermal oxidation *** microstructure,the specific surface area,the pore volume,the crystal structure,and functional groups presented in the prepared Cu2O/AC catalysts were thoroughly *** using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms,Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry(XRD),the effects of Cu2O loading and calcination temperature on Cu2O/AC catalysts were investigated at low temperature(150℃).The research shows that Cu on the Cu2O/AC catalyst is in the form of Cu2O with good crystalline performance and is spherical and uniformly dispersed on the AC *** loading of Cu2O increases the active sites and the specific surface area of the reaction gas contact,which is conducive to the rapid progress of the carbon monoxide selective catalytic reduction(CO-SCR)*** the loading of Cu2O was 8%and the calcination temperature was 500℃,the removal rate of NOx facilitated by the Cu2O/AC catalyst reached 97.9%.These findings provide a theoretical basis for understanding the denitrification of sintering flue gas.

Enhanced Efficiency of Milk utilization for Growth in Surviving Low-Birth-Weight Piglets

This study determined effects of birth weights （0.70 to 1.09, 1.10 to 1.49, 1.50 to 1.89, and ≥ 1.90 kg） on the efficiency of milk utilization for growth in sow-reared piglets. One-hundred-sixty piglets from 18 multiparous sows （ Landrace × Large White） were individually weighed immediately after birth （ day 0） and at 7-day intervals for 35 days. Milk consumption of piglets was determined weekly using the weigh-suckle-weigh method. Deaths of piglets were recorded daily. Piglets with the lightest birth weight had the highest incidence of mortality. Birth weights between 0.70 and 1.89 kg were positively as- sociated with average dally gains （ADG, g/day ） during the suckling period （ P 〈 0.01 ）. Compared with piglets having birth weights of 1.50 to 1.89 kg, birth weights ≥ 1.90 kg did not confer any additional benefit on preweaning survival or ADG. Colostrum or milk consumption per kilogram of body weight among low-, normal-, and large-birth-weight piglets did not differ in the first week. At days 14 to 35, milk consumption of piglets （ g/kg BW/day ） increased （e 〈 0. 01 ） but the ratio of gain to milk consumption decreased （ P 〈 0.01 ） progressively, as their birth weights increased from 0.70 to ≥1.90 kg. Additionally, surviving low-birth-weight piglets had a higher relative growth rate （%/day ） than normal-and large-birth- weight piglets. Based on these novel findings, it is imperative that great efforts be made to improve the survival of low-birth-weight piglets so as to increase the efficiency of nutrient utilization by both lactating sows and suckling piglets.
