Objective：To observe the effect of combining red yeast rice and Lactobacillus casei（***）in lowering cholesterol in patients with primary hyperlipidemia,the later has also been shown to remove cholesterol in in vitro ***：A double-blind clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the cholesterol-lowering effect of the combination of red yeast rice and *** patients with primary hyperlipidemia were recruited and randomized equal y to either the treatment group（red yeast rice＋***）or the control group（red yeast rice＋placebo）.One red yeast rice capsule and two *** capsules were taken twice a *** treatment lasted for 8 weeks,with an extended follow-up period of 4 *** primary endpoint was a difference of serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol（LDL-C）level at week ***：At week 8,the LDL-C serum level in both groups was lower than that at baseline,with a decrease of 33.85±26.66 mg/dL in the treatment group and 38.11±30.90 mg/dL in the control group;however,there was no statistical difference between the two groups（P〉0.05）.The total cholesterol was also lower than the baseline in both groups,yet without a statistical difference between the two *** only statistical y significant difference between the two groups was the average diastolic pressure at week 12,which dropped by 2.67 mm Hg in the treatment group and increased by 4.43 mm Hg in the placebo group（P〈0.05）.The antihypertensive activity may be associated with *** yeast rice can significantly reduce LDL-C,total cholesterol and ***：The combination of red yeast rice and *** did not have an additional effect on lipid profiles.

Sources and Trends of Persistent Organic Pollutants at Three Passive Monitoring Sites in South Africa

The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (SCPOPs) is an international treaty that operates under the patronage of the United Nations (UN) to control certain chemicals that are considered persistent organic pollutants (POPs). They are of great concern because of their adverse effects on human health and the environment. Exposure to POPs may lead to cancer, infertility, respiratory infections, and other health complications. It is therefore critical to study the degree of human and environmental exposure to these POPs. Passive air sampling was conducted in South Africa to evaluate the presence and trends of persistent organic pollutants at Barberspan (rural agricultural), Vanderbijl Park (urban industrial) and Molopo Nature Reserve (isolated nature reserve). Samples were collected in 2012. Passive air samplers using poly were used for sampling. The Buchi System B-811 automatic extractor was used to analyze for dichloro-diphenyl-trichlorethane (DDT), pentachlorobenzene (PeCB), hexechlorobenzene (HCB) polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH). Sampling was conducted for a period of one year. POPs concentrations were generally low at all sites, but Vanderbijl Park had the highest concentrations. Seasonal changes in concentrations were much the same at the three sites with temperatures and wind patterns being major factors. The presence of these chemicals in Molopo Nature Reserve and Barberspan is evidence of long range transportation over dry semi desert areas. Back-trajectories indicate possible sources, including areas where DDT is used for malaria control. The presence of POPs is areas they have never been in use poses health and environmental risks in these areas.

Physical activity in persons with Parkinson disease: A feasibility study

Background: Physical activity for persons with Parkinson Disease (PD) is recommended yet little is known about the physical activity levels in this patient population. The primary aim was to assess the feasibility of using a direct measurement and self-report measure of physical activity in patients with PD. Methods: Physical activity was recorded in 11 out-patients with mild to moderate PD. An accelerometer based sensor system (SenseWear Pro Armband?) which was worn continuously over 2 days was used to measure physical activity. Minute by minute energy expenditure and steps per day were recorded. Self-report physical activity was measured using the Short QUestionnaire to ASsess Health-enhancing physical activity (SQUASH) which assessed average weekly activity. Results: Using the accelerometer based sensor system, 83% of the day was spent in sedentary activity with the majority active time spent at a light intensity (2.7 [SD 2.0] hrs/day). Self-reported mean number of hours for activities greater than 2.0 METs was 3.4 (SD 1.5) hrs/day. Although the overall time spent in activity did not differ between the accelerometer and SQUASH, partici- pants reported a higher proportion of activities at the moderate and vigorous intensities than the accelerometer recorded. Conclusions: Measurement of physical activity is a challenge in persons with PD given the disease-related symptoms. We found that, by all accounts, a self-report measure of physical activity should be complemented with a direct measure of physical activity.

Objective:This study aimed to examine(1)the independent effects of hypoxia on cognitive function and(2)the effects of exercise on cognition while under ***:Design:Systematic review with *** sources:PubMed,Scopus,Web of Science,PsychInfo,and SPORTDiscus were *** criteria for selecting studies:randomized controlled trials and nonrandomized controlled studies that investigated the effects of chronic or acute exercise on cognition under hypoxia were considered(Aim 2),as were studies investigating the effects of hypoxia on cognition(Aim 1).Results:In total,18 studies met our inclusionary criteria for the systematic review,and 12 studies were *** to hypoxia impaired attentional ability(standardized mean difference(SMD)=-0.4),executive function(SMD=-0.18),and memory function(SMD=-0.26),but not information processing(SMD=0.27).Aggregated results indicated that performing exercise under a hypoxia setting had a significant effect on cognitive improvement(SMD=0.3,95%confidence interval:0.14-0.45,I^2=54%,p<0.001).Various characteristics(e.g.,age,cognitive task type,exercise type,exercise intensity,training type,and hypoxia level)moderated the effects of hypoxia and exercise on cognitive ***:Exercise during exposure to hypoxia improves cognitive *** association appears to be moderated by individual and exercise/hypoxia-related characteristics.

Acute Effects of Stretching on Flexibility and Performance:A Narrative Review

Passive and active stretching techniques have been shown to increase both chronic and acute range of motion(ROM).Acute ROM improvements can be countered by decreases in muscle performance,primarily after prolonged static stretching(SS)and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation(PNF)techniques when not incorporated into a full warm up *** contrast,ballistic stretching and dynamic stretching techniques typically induce either an increase or no change in muscular force and *** review explores studies that have investigated stretching responses on ROM,muscle functionality and ***,the literature demonstrates that prolonged acute SS and PNF stretching can elicit the greatest changes in flexibility,but without additional dynamic activities(*** warm up)can induce neuromuscular force and power output impairments,while increasing ROM and some sports specific *** response to stretching may be determined by the manipulation of confounding variables such as duration,population,volume,test specificity and *** increased dosage of some of these variables during stretching in isolation,augments ROM increases while attenuating muscle force output,except for stretching intensity which may lead to similar *** with high flexibility may have positive effects from stretching when tested on their sport specific performance,while general population may suffer greater negative *** control-ling these variables during stretching protocols may lead to misleading information regarding its effects on muscle performance.

Evolution and spatial characteristics of tourism field strength of cities linked by high-speed rail （HSR） network in China

Traffic is an indispensable prerequisite for a tourism system. The ＂four vertical and four horizontal＂ HSR network represents an important milestone of the ＂traffic revolution＂ in China. It will affect the spatial pattern of tourism accessibility in Chinese cities, thus substan- tially increasing their power to attract tourists and their radiation force. This paper examines the evolution and spatial characteristics of the power to attract tourism of cities linked by China＇s HSR network by measuring the influence of accessibility of 338 HSR-linked cities using GIS analysis. The results show the following. （1） The accessibility of Chinese cities is optimized by the HSR network, whose spatial pattern of accessibility exhibits an obvious traf- fic direction and causes a high-speed rail-corridor effect. （2） The spatial pattern of tourism field strength in Chinese cities exhibits the dual characteristics of multi-center annular diver- gence and dendritic diffusion. Dendritic diffusion is particularly more obvious along the HSR line. The change rate of urban tourism field strength forms a high-value corridor along the HSR line and exhibits a spatial pattern of decreasing area from the center to the outer limit along the HSR line. （3） The influence of the higher and highest tourism field strength areas along the HSR line is most significant, and the number of cities that distribute into these two types of tourism field strengths significantly increases： their area expands by more than 100% HSR enhances the tourism field strength value of regional central cities, and the radiation range of tourism attraction extends along the HSR line.

Lower extremity injury in female basketball players is related to a large difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod conditions

Background： The majority of injuries reported in female basketball players are ankle sprains and mechanisms leading to injury have been debated. Investigations into muscular imbalances in barefoot versus shod conditions and their relationship with injury severity have not been performed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of wearing athletic shoes on muscular strength and its relationship to lower extremity injuries, specifically female basketball players due to the high incidence of ankle injuries in this population. Methods： During pre-season, 11 female collegiate basketball players underwent inversion and eversion muscle strength testing using an iso- kinetic dynamometer in both a barefoot and shod conditions. The difference between conditions was calculated for inversion and eversion peak torque, time to peak torque as well as eversion-to-inversion peak torque percent strength ratio for both conditions. Lower extremity injuries were documented and ranked in severity. The ranked difference between barefoot and shod conditions for peak torque and time to peak torque as well as percent strength ratio was correlated with injury ranking using a Spearman rho correlation （p） with an a level of 0.05. Results： The ranked differences in barefoot and shod for peak eversion and inversion torque at 120°/s were correlated with their injury ranking. Ranking of the athletes based on the severity of injuries that were sustained during the season was found to have a strong, positive relationship with the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod （p = 0.78; p = 0.02）. Conclusion： It is possible that a large discrepancy between strength in barefoot and shod conditions can predispose an athlete to injury. Nar- rowing the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod could decrease propensity to injury. Future work should investigate the effect of restoration of muscular strength during barefoot and shod exercise on injury rates
