BACKGROUND There remains a dearth of Asian epidemiological literature for paediatric inflammatory bowel disease(PIBD).AIM To describe the presenting features of PIBD from 7 Asia-Pacific pediatric gastroenterology centers via a central standardised electronic data *** Clinical,endoscopic and radiologic data at diagnosis from the registry were extracted between 1^(st) January 1995 to 31^(st) December *** phenotypic characteristics were classified as per the Paris classification *** There was a distinct rise in new PIBD cases:Nearly half(48.6%)of the cohort was diagnosed in the most recent 5 years(2015-2019).The ratio of Crohn’s disease(CD):Ulcerative colitis(UC):IBDUnclassified was 55.9%:38.3%:5.8%.The mean age was 9.07 years with a high proportion of very early onset IBD(VEO-IBD)(29.3%)and EO-IBD(52.7%).An over-representation of the Indian/South Asian ethnic group was observed which accounted for 37.0% of the overall Singapore/Malaysia subcohort(6.8%-9.0%Indians in census).Indian/South Asian CD patients were also most likely to present with symptomatic perianal disease(P=0.003).CD patients presented with significantly more constitutional symptoms(fever,anorexia,malaise/fatigue and muscle-wasting)than UC and higher inflammatory indices(higher C-reactive protein and lower albumin levels).CONCLUSION We observed a high incidence of VEO-IBD and an over-representation of the Indian *** Asian CD patients were more likely to have symptomatic perianal disease.

A model on the coexisting phase of quasicrystal-crystal is proposed, with which we concretely investigate the inter- face effects for coexisting phases of one-dimensional orthorhombic quasicrystal-isotropic crystal and three-dimensional icosahedral quasierystal-cubic crystal. The phason strain fields which play an important role in some processes are determined. Some factors affecting the strain fields, e.g., the material constants of phonon, phason, phonon-phason coupling of the quasicrystal and the elastic modulus and the size of the crystal are also explored.

Background:To determine the characteristics and outcomes of pulmonary arterial hypertension(PAH)in extremely low birth weight(ELBW)***:A retrospective case-control study of all ELBW infants admitted to a level III neonatal intensive care unit(NICU)between January 1,2003 and December 31,***:During the study period,450 ELBW infants were admitted.6.4%(29/450)were diagnosed with PAH and were matched to 26 *** mean gestational age of infants with PAH and their controls were similar[24.5±1.3 vs.24.9±1.8 weeks(P=0.26)];however the cases were smaller at birth than were controls[640.7±119.5 vs.727.0±184.5 g(P=0.04)].The diagnosis of PAH was made at a mean postnatal age of 131.8±53.7 *** with PAH had a higher rate of intrauterine exposure to illicit maternal drug use[12/29(41%)vs.1/25(4%);P=0.001],a longer duration of initial mechanical ventilation[74.9±28.3 vs.59.1±27.8 days;(P=0.04)],a higher incidence of severe BPD[23/29(79%)vs.13/26(50%);P=0.02],and a greater NICU mortality rate[12/29(41%)vs.4/26(15%);P=0.04].Conclusion:PAH in ELBW infants is associated with maternal illicit drug use in pregnancy,longer exposure to mechanical ventilation,severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia and a significant increase in early mortality.

Purpose: To identify the social-ecological correlates associated with fundamental movement skills at the child, family, and environment levels in young ***: Preschool children from 4 Colorado Head Start/preschool centers were recruited from 2010 to 2012. Two hundred twenty-eight children(128 girls; age = 56.08 § 4.09 months; body mass index(BMI) z-score = 0.53 § 1.12(mean § SD); 42.1% Hispanic/Latino) and 159 families were included in the final analysis. Children's perceived competence and fundamental movement skills were assessed via the Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance and the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 2 nd edition. Data on the number of children in the family, parent age, BMI, education, employment status, family income, perception of child coordination, and home physical activity environment were collected via a questionnaire. Linear regressions adjusted for child BMI, age, sex, and school site were performed at each ***: Child perceived cognitive competence was positively associated with locomotor skills(p = 0.04; adjusted R2= 0.035) and object-control skills(p = 0.003; adjusted R2= 0.083) at the child level. Parent education, BMI, and perception of child coordination were positively associated with locomotor skills and explained 8.8% of variance, but only parent education was significant(p = 0.04) at the family level. In addition, physical environment was positively associated with locomotor skills(p = 0.02) and explained 5.5% of variance at the environment ***: Social-ecological correlates associated with young children's fundamental movement skills are multidimensional and differ according to skill category at the child, family, and environment levels.

The kidneys play a critical role in maintaining glucose *** normal renal tubular function,most of the glucose filtered from the glomeruli is re-absorbed in the proximal tubules,leaving only trace amounts in the *** can occur as a symptom of generalized proximal tubular dysfunction or when the reabsorption threshold is exceeded or the glucose threshold is reduced,as seen in familial renal glycosuria(FRG).FRG is characterized by persistent glycosuria despite normal blood glucose levels and tubular function and is primarily associated with mutations in the sodium/glucose cotransporter 5A2 gene,which encodes the sodium-glucose cotransporter(SGLT)*** SGLTs has been proposed as a novel treatment strategy for diabetes,and since FRG is often considered an asymptomatic and benign condition,it has inspired preclinical and clinical studies using SGLT2 inhibitors in type 2 ***,patients with FRG may exhibit clinical features such as lower body weight or height,altered systemic blood pressure,diaper dermatitis,amino-aciduria,decreased serum uric acid levels,and *** research is needed to fully understand the pathophysiology,molecular genetics,and clinical manifestations of renal glucosuria.

Hepatitis E in Israel: A nation-wide retrospective study

AIM: To investigate the epidemiology, risk factors and clinical course of acute hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection in Israel, an industrialized ***: A retrospective analysis of acute HEV cases diagnosed in Israel from 1993 to 2013. Acute HEV was defined by ALT/AST elevation and a positive HEV PCR test or positive anti-HEV-IgM serology. HEV RNA was tested by quantitative reverse transcription PCR. Antibodies to HEV were tested retrospectively using an ELISA assay. HEV-RNA was sequenced using RT-PCR of ORF1 and ORF2 regions to diagnose genotype of the virus. Epidemiologic and clinical data were collected by reviewing the clinical files and through a telephone interview according to a structured ***: Acute HEV was diagnosed in 68 patients. Among the 59 patients who gave an informed consent and were interviewed, 41% of infections were autochthonous (acquired in Israel), 44% travel-related and 15% imported by foreign workers. Autochthonous patients were mainly females (62.5%), more than half of them pregnant, 26% recalled consuming food or water in areas with poor sanitation, 44% ate non-kosher meat. Fulminant hepatitis developed in 3 patients (5%), all of them were females, two of them with post-partum infection, all acquired the disease in Israel (autochthonous). Israeli travelers with imported infection were predominantly males (73%), acquired the disease in the Indian subcontinent (81%), with 100% reporting having consumed fresh vegetables and drinks with ice cubes abroad. Six patients’ sera were tested for genotype and revealed HEV genotype 1 (all cases acquired in the Indian subcontinent).CONCLUSION: This is the first report which highlights the existence of hepatitis E as an autochthonous infection in Israel. Imported HEV originates mostly from the Indian subcontinent.

Background:To describe the sleep patterns of children below 36 months in Hong Kong,and evaluate the associations between parental behaviors and childhood sleep/wake ***:Parents of 1049 infants and toddlers completed an internet-based expanded version of the Brief Infant Sleep ***:Total sleep duration (P<0.001),frequency (P<0.001) and duration (P<0.001) of nocturnal awakenings decreased with age,whereas the longest sleep duration (P<0.001) and nocturnal sleep duration (P<0.001) increased with *** who room-or bed-shared with parents had later bedtimes (P<0.001),but similar sleep duration compared with those who had a separate sleep *** asleep independently was associated with longer nocturnal sleep duration (P<0.001) and less sleep awakenings (P<0.001).Full-time employment of parents was associated with shorter total sleep duration of children (P<0.001).Although breastfeeding was associated with more nocturnal awakenings (P<0.001),no association was detected between breastfeeding and shorter sleep duration in ***:As infants and toddlers develop,their sleep *** asleep independently was associated with longer nocturnal sleep duration and fewer sleep awakenings,whereas sleep location was *** is an important finding,especially for families with limited living space where parent/ child room-or bed-sharing cannot be avoided.

AIM: To determine cytomegalovirus (CMV) frequency in neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis by serology, histological revision (searching for cytomegalic cells), immunohistochemistry, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and to verify the relationships among these ***: The study comprised 101 non-consecutive infants submitted for hepatic biopsy between March 1982 and December 2005. Serological results were obtained from the patient's f iles and the other methods were performed on paraffin-embedded liver samples from hepatic biopsies. The following statistical measures were calculated: frequency, sensibility, specif ic positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and ***: The frequencies of positive results were as follows: serology, 7/64 (11%); histological revision, 0/84; immunohistochemistry, 1/44 (2%), and PCR, 6/77 (8%). Only one patient had positive immunohistochemical fi ndings and a positive PCR. The following statistical measures were calculated between PCR and serology: sensitivity, 33.3%; specificity, 88.89%; positive predictive value, 28.57%; negative predictive value, 90.91%; and accuracy, 82.35%. CONCLUSION: The frequency of positive CMV varied among the tests. Serology presented the highest positive frequency. When compared to PCR, the sensitivity and positive predictive value of serology were low.
